Idle temps don't matter. What are your FULL Load temps? (for example after 10 minutes of Cinebench etc)

3 drives in a raid 1 doesn't make sense. 
 
Id put the 5 drives in the nas as a raid 6, and then add the 3 drives from the PC later on to expand it for the 8 total drives.

your router probably only has 1gbit ports anyways, so it was always running at 1gbit.

How Set are you in going all out new instead of upgrading your current PC? 
Because basing that upgrade thought on the beta of a game sounds a little... Rushed... 
 
For 1440p60 you can get away much cheaper or with just upgrades, if you tell us the specs of your current machine.

Just as a little note, I'm out with family today, it is my stepmother's first birthday since getting the All-Clear from the docs after having breast cancer so it's an important milestone. I have no idea what time we are partying until or when I will go home so there may not be a blog post today.

 The 17-year-old RTS Star Wars Empire at War has received a surprise update that moves the game to a 64-bit code base that is intended to increase the amount of memory available for the extensive list of total conversion mods still being produced for the game.  This is excellent news for people who are still playing the game, and I am looking forward to what modders do with the extra memory. I imagine it is unheard of for a game to get patched to 64-bit so long after release, and the continued support from the developer after all these years is very encouraging. Petroglyph has indicated interested as of a few years ago to make a sequel and my fingers are still crossed that something will happen there. If you haven't played the game before, I would highly recommend checking it out for yourself.
