  1. I wish I could test out the improved HDR stuff. Will be a while before I get an HDR monitor though. So far, I've seen a few issues with the GUI. But the biggest issue right now, is that the shell context menu for Winamp seems to be broken, so I can't enqueue files directly from explorer. How annoying.
  2. And just after all vendors have either stripped their branding from AMD cards or made new branding outright. The damage is done you anticompetitive twats.
  3. Kinda goes both ways, right? That being said, I do wish AMD had more confidence in their own products, to make unique product names/numbers. They're not gonna shed the cheap/budget version of Intel when they label their stuff just like Intel. Then again, now Intel is starting to brand their stuff as AMD, so the confusion is over 8000.
  4. Absolutely. But not all fluids are conductive. As for metal, I'm not sure how it works. Maybe holes the TSV's can go through without contact? This is what Samsung'spolaris controllers use: Of course it's stylized, so it's impossible to know how it actually works.
  5. Not by itself. But you can do through silicon metal rods to move heat. You can have a layer in between the silicon that either dissipates heat or move it, like the Polaris controller for Samsung nvme pro drives. So yeah, you can't just slap them together, but that doesn't mean there aren't solutions to the problem. Heck, you can even (maybe) go full liquid cooling inside the chips: http://electronicpackaging.asmedigitalcollection.asme.org/article.aspx?articleid=2469021 Although that does seem quite exotic.
  6. Nah, the three things I listed are pretty much unique design features for Nikolas and Tesla trucks.
  7. I'm not a proponent of forced full screen. I'm complaining how dumb it is to use full screen when the panel has rounded corners and a giant mole on the side.
  8. Most movies are 2.35:1. But it depends on post production. It's basically impossible to make a screen, that all movies can fill out.
  9. Almost all movies are wider than 16:9, so it actually benefits from a wider screen. Round corners and notches does not.
  10. But. What reason do I have now to buy an overly expensive motherboard, where I can't use half the ram slots, about half the PCI lanes, and lots of features?
  11. Wow. I really love how there is just one phone designer in the entire world. And a whole bunch of uninspiring copycats. When they are even copying idiotic design like the screen mole, you know it's bad. Ugh. Hey.. hey.. you know that top part, where you can see all the stuff apps tell you? Yeah, yeah where your battery indicator and clock is located. How about we remove half of that space for no screen at all. You know, so you can't see shit, if you have more than 3 apps trying to communicate with you. Yeah. That's a great idea. Oh and make sure the screen has rounded corners too. Just so when you play full screen video, you lose a large part of the side, and all corners! INNOVATION AWARD OF THE YEAR. This site needs a poo emoji.
  12. So this seems to function exactly like HBM. HBM runs at a much slower clock frequency than single layer memory so it won't overheat. With this technology, we might see a massive decrease in frequency. Maybe back down to 800-1000 megahertz. But if it doubles the performance, who cares? It might even bring cooler GPU's as well. After all, GPU's aren't as intolerant to low frequencies as CPU's, so it might actually work. As for AMD, Navi has had a lot of speculation. Two of them is that it will be a mid end chip only and that they could be scalable using "glued together" chips, just like EPYC and Threadripper. Again, unlike those CPU's, a GPU could handle the latency of infinity fabric a lot better. I don't think this technology will be ready for Navi, however. But AMD is taping out both CPU's and GPU's on 7nm right now, with seemingly great yields (unlike a certain company and it's dumbsterfire called 10nm). I guess with the stagnation of process node shrinks, we were forced to either see massive chips, glued together smaller chips or stacked chips. It's going to be very interesting to see what they can do with actual stacked logic.
  13. Wow. Spectre and Meltdown. The little gifts from Intel, that just keeps giving and giving. Well, more like taking and taking performance. Well, I finally got my z97 bios update, so I won't suffer from the security holes. Now I get to use half my CPU.
  14. At least show a picture of the Tesla with side mirrors: Similar design includes: Narrow wedge shaped front with pertruding wheel arches. Wedge shaped side windows, like on a sports car. Wide side mirrors in skinny poles connect the exact same place on the truck. I gotta say, the design is VERY similar. To the point where you would have to know the specific differences to tell them apart on the road.
  15. I honestly doubt he will be here next year. It must really suck for him and his family. I know of another british person who died of colon cancer at a very young age. I got to wonder if there is something specific in the UK that makes this type of cancer more common over there. Either way, he was a very positive influence on the gaming industry. He isn't without flaws, but for the most part he wised up. It will be a big loss when he is not here anymore.
  16. Wouldn't that technically be the definition of a father?
  17. Definitely not the first time the dram manufacturers have been caught in cartel actions. The prices are just bonkers now, and I really hope they get a couple of billions in fines from the US and EU. Unfortunately, it will probably be worth it either way for them.
  18. As stated, this is a workstation/compute card. Maybe it can be used for gaming, but you wouldn't want to with the price. But it does mean AMD is getting great experience with 7nm for Ryzen 3000 and Navi GPU's next year.
  19. He has type 1 diabetes. Got both feet amputated some time ago. New update is that he might have his entire leg amputated. And he's been diagnosed with early onset parkinsons, explaining his shaking. Most people have never had serious health issues. And it's very clear they don't understand how that affects your body, stability, personality, mood, etc. No wonder he's had meltdowns online before. A few months ago, he started fresh, and I gotta say, his videos have been a lot better. Especially his videos on NVidia's GPP are pretty good. It's sad to see him in this shape. He has not been dealt a great hand in life for sure.
  20. In other words, you haven't bothered looking into the person or what happened either? Good job.
  21. The prices of the 960 drives have gone down lately, so not a huge surprise. But as I understand, the read speeds will be somewhat identical to the 960 series? Anyways, PCPer has their review up: https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Storage/Samsung-970-PRO-512GB-and-970-EVO-250GB-500GB-1TB-NVMe-SSD-Review
