Not to be a debbie-downer but i think you have a borked cpu socket. When you tighten down on the socket and it stops booting, the pcb could be cracked or warped around the socket and/or cooler mounting plate/bracket.

    Suuuuure it's not your mac

But yes, you should be fine doing that. As @DatTestBench said, it may not provide enough power for fast charging though.

Agreed.  It's almost as if they think we've forgotten how our services have been throttled, and will again be throttled with renewed vigor.  Not that they've ever really stopped hampering the end user.

Well, I'm sure law enforcement will investigate that since they've saved time by not looking into identity theft and mysterious support the dead had for striking down net neutrality.

A lot of decent builds in there, but thats only Ryzen 3. You don't necessarily have to clone those exactly, but that will give you a good idea of what parts to expect to use. We're in that sale time of year, so i would spend the extra time searching for deals on hardware. I ran the budget for $650, thats a decent budget range and isn't that far up. I'm not sure if you're able to save up a few extra bucks or how constrained you actually are in the budget, but bumping up to the $700 range could really go a long way in building a stable upgradable platform.

I don't have low profile ram. Honestly if it's not the D15 i don't want an air cooler. I do have a couple of NF-F12s im currently using.. i just don't wanna spend on that if it wont' fit. Returns can be a hassle this time of year.

It would be so close either way, plus there could be slight differences with the height of my motherboard. Ultimately i may go with the AIO and improve my exhaust fan setup. The D15 is the cooler i had in mind when making this post however it won't fit now that i look at the measurements. And, i don't know of any other air coolers comparable to the D15.

The 6700 and 7700 are basically the same performance wise. If spending the money is not an issue, do a platform upgrade and get the mobo + 8700k. No sense buying something that is already obsolete(in terms of what is currently avalible on the market.. by no means are a 67 or 7700k 'obsolete' performance wise!).

I actually really like the way that acer is looking. I guess i was setting my standards pretty high. My primary use is gaming, not like im editing photos all the time or anything. maybe i'll go for something a little more reasonable then.

N3rot0xin reacted to BrightCandle in AMD ZEN - Should I wait?
AMD themselves basically gave a performance estimate that put it in the Haswell performance range, ie similar to your current CPU. Admittedly they are talking about some more cores but you could go out right now and buy a faster CPU than that with 6-8 cores and have it for the next 6 months and then some. We really don't know what the final performance characteristics will be, but AMD has of late underperformed their estimates and really is haswell like performance at the end of 2016 beginning 2017 compelling? It might be a cheaper version of what you can get today but its sounding like anything new, it'll be 3 generations of CPUs behind at that point.

N3rot0xin got a reaction from Captive in AMD ZEN - Should I wait?
You can wait but you wont gain much more then what you have now. AMD doesn't exactly have a track record of making leaps and bounds in terms of CPU architecture in recent years. Granted, for the price you cant beat them so there is that to consider. If budget is an obstacle, then id would say wait for Zen and see how it compares. If budget is not, then go for Intel. 6700k is a great choice for any well rounded workload(gaming/video and /or 3d rendering and editing). Again, the choice is ultimately yours to make with what you read here.

Well first you're gunna want to get either some really sharp scissors or, what i used, were a pair of flush cutters. picked them up for a few bucks at the hardware store. If you look in the very first picture, those red handled things are what i used. Measure out how much you need+ just a little extra (half an inch or an inch at most). Make a clean cut with your cutters, what ever you choose. Then you can just grab the inner core and give it a pull and it comes right out. I had a couple hundred feet of the core, i used 550 paracord and it had 3 or four strands as a core. Check out this video i made demonstrating this. Quality is less then good, camera has no auto focus..

edit: did not know the video would have to be downloaded first. Can't have that. i'll youtube it.

As was I. It's an experience. A couple notes when you do it:
Dont pull the wires near clothing. The little tiny pins that actually hold the wire in place (the pins you're depressing with your tool) can get caught on the fabric and, when you yank them out (because it does take come force even with a tool) they can bend backwards/break off even.
Dont let your fingers hang over the edges when your holding the connector(the plastic bit). if you so, you'll loose skin/have cuts in prefect little 11s' on your fingertips. The crimp-on connectors have sharp edges that, when greeted with skin, dont care.
Don't use *too* much force. If you have to use excessive force to remove a wire, stop. Pull the tool out and try again.
Sometimes the ends of the wires can 'sink' into the connectors. Keep an eye out for this when sleeving.

These are things that nobody even mentions when sleeving but I feel are really, really important to do the job painfree.
