TheBean got a reaction from Dooks in Does Linus not know how web browsers work and have worked since the early 2000's
i think you need to chill...
Linus nuked his pop installation because he got a wall of text and didnt read what it said in its entirety. are you saying you read the entire terms and conditions when you sign up for something? Probably not. you just click next/accept. thats the same thing linus did. there was no indication for a normal person that this command would nuke his computer. thats the point of the video. to show what its like for the normal person. This situation was Pop_os's fault, not linus. they had some problems with the dependancies which have now been fixed.
you need to see this from the perspective of a NORMAL person who does not know how to use a computer and 99% of the time just uses their computer as a web browser. Linus uses windows, so I dont expect him to fully understand how linux works. sure, he uses it daily for all of the networking stuff etc, but still. his main system is windows.
im going to go out on a limb and say YOU are the reason people dont use linux.

Yes, this. and LOL less. Unless you actually giggle when you ask people for help.
Many will ignore this due to it not being specific to things they think they can help with.

Sure, it's good. Ryzen 7 5800 is a good CPU, performs like an Intel 11400F or so.
Since you're not sharing the price, no idea if you should buy it or not.

TheBean reacted to Skiiwee29 in Internet speeds are super slow through lan.
Exact details are necessary. Which of the following is how your speed tests read? Are they shown the same between the devices?
MBps / MB/s
or
Mbps / mb/s
These look extremely similar, but the Capitalizing of the B is a huge key factor. So its important to distinguish which are being tested/displayed and if they match between the 2 devices.

TheBean reacted to Thomas4 in Distro best suited for offline use
Any OS will work off-line, unless you use Windows 365, Dropbox, or any application requiring access to any of the online services.
Updates won't matter, because they'll catch up when you do get back on-line.
-
TheBean got a reaction from Eigenvektor in Distro best suited for offline use
theres no specific distro or even OS thats "best" for offline use. hell you could use windows offline. it just depends what you have saved on the device.
download the man pages, download the OS/distro docs/wiki, download all of wikipedia.
from my experience, if you're using a device offline, windows is honestly good at that. if theres no updates or random crap updating every 2 seconds, windows will generally not get in your way and is actually quite stable and less ways to randomly break your OS which can cause problems if you're offline. which is why im very confused and intrigued by the question, because I dont fully understand what you're asking
also, if you're offline, what networking capabilities are you talking about?

TheBean reacted to TVwazhere in EVGA Terminates NVIDIA Partnership
EVGA cards were the only cards I always preferred.... I'm not sure who I'd go to after this

TheBean reacted to starsmine in EVGA Terminates NVIDIA Partnership
Summary
EVGA is done making GPUs for NVIDIA, not only that, no more GPUs at all. GPUs are 80% of their revenue, (though not profit) so this will be a massive downsize. EVGA has no current plans to work with AMD or Intel for GPUs.
There will be NO EVGA 40 series cards on the market.
EVGA has felt Nvidia has treated them so poorly as of late, that they feel that this is not a financial decision, but a principle one. EVGA has no idea how much they are spending on chips until the MSRP is dropped, let alone the MSRP, making it impossible to engineer boards when costs, revenue, and profits are unknown and impossible to forecast. Founder edition cards from Nvidia cannibalize partners markets, and they are unable to compete on price, with partners already often losing money at MSRP making them unable to match price with nvidia.
Much of EVGA's complaints match the same complaints other OEMs have been making that many of us have heard through rumors. Many times partners like EVGA learn about things when the press does, such as performance even, as they do not get drivers.

My thoughts
I have been an EVGA fanboy for a long time, I have only purchased GPUs from them since the 9600 GSO, which locked me into Nvidia. I dont know where I will be sourcing my GPUs from now on.

Oof. While I've never owned an EVGA card, I've always heard good things especially with regards to their support and warranty.

TheBean reacted to Roswell in LTT Labs Machine Learning Testing
I would image the ML industry is much larger than you think it is. Corporate interest in machine learning is aimed more for behind the scenes deployment rather than public facing products.
I also can’t fathom how much money gets funneled into government agencies for development of surveillance/logistics/military tools.

TheBean reacted to Andrewtst in Monitor settings issue
I don't own Samsung Odyssey G9 but I do own Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 and both is sharing similar setting control.
At PBP/PIP mode, most setting is grey out, basically you cannot change anything. Also under PBP/PIP, maximum refresh rate is 120hz and no HDR support.
If you want to make changes, you cannot use PBP/PIP mode.
Beside this, some setting still grey out if you are under Adaptive Sync on.

TheBean reacted to Middcore in Clue me in "Core i9-12900KF", Why are so many Pre Builts "KF" and not just K or KS?
The F suffix means no integrated graphics.
Anybody making a system with an i9 is also putting a top-flight GPU in it, so integrated graphics are of no use 99.99% of the time.
Comparing the price of the KF to the K and KS on PCpartpicker should tell you the rest of the story.

You can manually drag them to where/how you want them. Otherwise, I would recommend closing all the stuff you dont require to have open 24/7

TheBean got a reaction from Needfuldoer in 2 PCs have the same Public IP
your public IP will always be the same for anything behind a NAT. You cannot have 2 IPs with 1 connection. you have private IPs and Public IPs. you can set up port forwarding if you have access to the router to allow public access to a pc through a specific port, but the IPs will be the same.
-
TheBean reacted to Skiiwee29 in 2 PCs have the same Public IP
how are you checking what IP your computer has? If you're doing an online lookup, then it will show the same IP since that is what your router is assigned by your ISP. You need your LAN IP. You can get that by opening command prompt and typing in ipconfig. You will locate your Ethernet Adapter similar to this and you will see an IP address, likely 192.168.x.x
Once you have this IP address, this is what you will need to setup the port forwards to. Also make sure you set that IP as static in your DHCP pool to that machine otherwise if your machine changes IP it will cause problems and break the Port forwards.
