  1. Proof of stake. Currently BTC and ETH are PoW which means they require computation to produce new blocks (ie mining with gpus). POS (proof of stake) is different because its a complicated algorithm that requires you to purchase the asset (ETH in this case) to contribute to the blockchain. It does not consume your ETH, you just need to have it in the 1st place and you will get a small bonus everytime you are chosen as the validator. I am summarizing it in like 3 sentences but its a lot more complicated. if you want to understand it better, lots of YT videos exist. Basically with POS mining will not be a thing anymore, so miners will have to either mine another PoW crypto, or sell their GPUs/ASICs. Think of BlockFi as a "savings" crypto account. When you make a blockfi account and fund it, the asset is not held by you technically. BlockFi takes it, loans it out to people, then they make money from the interest, and give you part of it. almost exactlly like a savings bank account but significantly more APY and also not insured since its not FDIC. again, I am simplifing this and if you want to learn more, numerous YT videos can explain it much better than me. I trust BlockFi and Gemini, so I am confortable. If you arent, then regular markets still exist Hey if you can get a free 1060, then theres no reason not to mine with it. You can always sell it later once ETH transitions to POS. when mining, literally any computer will work if you can plug the 1060 in. Mining requires at most 1-2gb ram, 4-5gb vram, 1-2 cpu cores, 20gb storage. I would suggest YT videos by Coin Bureau and Graham Stephan. CB is purely stuff about crypto, GS is general investing stuff. In terms of their bias, because BS is a crypto channel, they are very bullish on crypto so beware of that. GS is more of a light hearted investing channel and arent as serious as Kevin oleary.
  2. have you tried using different cables? it could just be a low quality cable which is messing up the signal.
  3. unless you have >5000usd to spend on GPUs, its honestly not that worth it. I have a single gtx 1060 and I can get just over $1usd per day with ETH which is currently the most profitable. But considering that ETH will move to POS in the coming year, you will not get ROI before that happens. so imho, its not worth it anymore and yes you are late. What I have done is put most of my money into blockfi and I earn yield there. it does fluctuate, but currently getting 9% APY on GUSD (not insured). dm me if you want a referral if you dont trust gemini with GUSD, then just going with an ETF seems pretty reliable as well. idk how strong the US market is looking for the next couple months and I feel like stocks are highly overvalued currently and I expect a "crash" / "correction" soon, so maybe put money into an ETF in February or something. non of this is financial advice. this is all speculation on my end and I know nothing about tax laws, finance laws or anything like that. Im just some random guy on the internet.

  6. this post is quite vague. I would try spending the extra 2 minutes to breathe and maybe show some pictures of what happened if there is physical damage? also, linus is highly unlikely going to just respond because you asked for him to come help you unless he does it ironically
  7. honestly if you are going through that much effort, a clean install wont hurt. just make sure to back up your pc so you dont lose your files.
  8. ok there are 2 things you can do to make this process a bit easier. 1. have task manager open while you are gaming. when you encounter a stutter, minimise the game and screenshot the performance tab 2. after doing that, install a program called gpu-z. its quite usefull at monitoring the GPU. keep it open and do the same thing as #1 but screenshot the sensors tab in gpu-z when you get a stutter. in task manager something wrong would be a spike or large change in cpu/gpu utilization. in GPUz we are looking for the "perfCap reason" which can indicate why your gpu is slowing down (if that is the problem)
  9. 1. skylake isnt that old 2. if the bios can detect it but not windows, its likely just an issue with windows itself. try getting a linux usb and see if that can detect the drive. also, try resetting the bios to default settings and see if that helps.
  10. it can be hard to be sure if there actually is something on your system. so best thing would be to backup your files (do not backup everything because you might accidentally back up the virus as well) and do a fresh install. backup only the things you actually need.
  11. damn why are there so many mentors in this thread? didnt expect so many considering proficient is already top 1%
  12. honestly, anything newer than 2015, at least 2c/4t (preferably something with a decent igpu so the ryzen ones) 12gb ram (its an odd number but I find that 8 is too small and 16 is kinda overkill so 12gb if you do 8+4gb sticks) 128gb ssd wifi 5 thats pretty much all they need imo honestly some of those NUCs are a decent option to make it small and easy (i think there are intel and amd options available)
  13. what monitor? does it happen if you plug your computer into a TV or just that specific monitor? if you plug in another computer to that same monitor, does it still happen?
  14. its a feature that any calls are received on all devices you are logged into. idk about messenger, but I dont think you can turn that off for discord
  15. if you cant even get there, try booting into safe mode and see if that helps.
  16. ask him to open the "reliability monitor" on windows and see if he finds anything there.
  17. there is a software called cold turkey which may or may not be what you are looking for. its $9 and will lock the computer and open basically a word document. its meant to stop distractions but may also work for this specific use case. never used it myself so I dont know how well it works or if you can turn it off (i think its timer based) https://getcoldturkey.com/compare/ there are a couple different options for this
  18. Yea I agree with this. if it is running at 800mhz then something is wrong with the cooler. even if the temps are fine, maybe the mobo is unable to detect the cooler so its lowering the clock speed to be safe. you can also install Intel XTU which can give you more information. it can tell you why the performance is being throttled. you can also try resetting the bios to make sure nothing is wrong there and make sure XMP/DOCP is enabled after resetting the bios
  19. you can set up a kiosk mode in windows but Ive never used it so i dont really know how well it works or any limitations on that
  20. do you see any warning messages on the bios when you turn the computer on? if you install the corsair software, does the cooler get detected (I dont know if the software exists for this specific cooler, im just guessing) what GPU? did you put thermal paste? did you make sure you take off the plastic sticker/cover on the cooler?

  22. I could be wrong but I think I heard some people talking about how the debouncing on that mouse was causing problems for some people. So it might be a problem that you cannot fix, but you will have to check the logitech about this since this is very specific and a niche thing .
  23. I dont have a source but pretty sure even 5w will work but just painfully slow.
  24. if the charger supports >15W, then you can use it in computers that accept power from usb. its really not that complicated afaik
