  1. Hey all - just upgraded 2700x to 3900x. I haven't bought a x570 board yet before i figure this out. I had issues with the b450 and 2700x using an nvme drive and two gpu's losing sata ports, running gpu's in 8x and 4x etc. I'm just thoroughly confused about what is actually usable in these boards. Coming from x79 and 40 lanes, the 2700/b450 upgrade threw me for a loop. I was just used to plugging whatever would fit in and it just working no matter what. Sorta TLDR: Can I run an nvme ssd at 4x (pcie3) along with 2 gpu's at 16x without compromising sata ports or lane speeds in x570? thanks folks!
  2. yeah i was figuring that - but i can't see an optical drive doing more than 250mB/s both ways at 1x. Good call about damage though i might pick one up regardless
  3. it's a blu ray drive for ripping uhd disks it's a b450 tomahawk already purchased and in service - I have 2 gpus in it already for vm passthrough and plex transcoding so using a 16x slot for it isn't really an option unfortunately
  4. Just curious - i have a sata card (2x) from my old htpc build that i'd like to use in my new build (only has 1x slots) - i only need 1 more port for an optical drive, so it's not mission critical. Is this a situation where i can cut the end of the 1x slot to enable at least partial connectivity? Quite noob to doing stuff like this, figured i'd get a second opinion before i get the razor blade out :P
  5. Totally just a dead card. Doesn't work in any rig. Rma I guess. Heard nightmare stories about gigabyte rma. Might just get another at best buy, then return it when I get my card back. Lol good thing all my appliances put me over elite plus. Have 45 days!
  6. i do, but it's hardline and vertical, unfortunately. If worst comes to worst i'll drain it and see i guess Last time i do hardline for sure
  7. Hey all, i have a gigabyte 1660 in my unraid rig. Worked flawlessly since april. After a reboot, i no longer get signal. Unfortunately it's x79 with no onboard video. I have an old amd card, that's recognized and displays no problem in any slot. Has there been any news around about them randomly dying? (nothing back form gigabyte support yet) Any suggestions? Previous experiences? I get fan spin, just no video, not found in unraid. vt-d is on, csm set to auto, secure boot set to 'otheros' 4930k asus x79 deluxe (latest bios version 4805) gigabyte 1660 (non-ti) corsair tx850 psu unraid 6.70 to 6.7.2, same issue.
  8. ah, okay - i was hoping there was a way sort of like running two ethernet cables. Thanks!
  9. Looking to get some more local network performance - currently have gigabit through switch/router (netgear r7000 if that makes any difference). My unraid machine is an old x79 board with dual lan ports. My main rig only has one lan port, but has (unused) wifi. Is there any way that i could team the wired/wireless connections to the same switch/router to get some more throughput to the server? i'd rather not buy another lan card and fish another cable through the walls if possible. I've read around that when you're connected to both on w10 it'll just choose the better of the two, but if there's some weird setting i can change to get them to team, that'd be pretty nice Thanks folks!
  10. i'd really like to do that, but that's a whole lot of money for a camera. I love the way ubiquiti does their stuff, if it were affordable they could totally destroy the mainstream netgear/belkin area
  11. I was figuring that the chinese cams would be where i was headed - i like that camera you used, but it's not outdoor friendly (currently well below freezing here). But if i could find a water/freeze resistant version, that might be the way i go for sure. I'm just going to run motioneye or something similar in unraid with it's own vlan. If i really needed to watch it i could vpn into it. More of a case of people running my mailbox over and walking in my yard in the snow ? -- been costing me a fortune Very good writeup btw, thank you
  12. Not too sure where to post this, but it kinda seems like a home theater thing. been messing around with a webcam in motioneye and a raspberry pi, it's pretty neat. But after looking for actual cameras to use wirelessly 80% of them say they need a subscription or offer "cloud" storage (last thing i want someone to have for "security"). Also, i don't really want to end up buying something that just didn't say you need a 'hub' or subscription until you get it Wish i could use the wyze cams or similar to flash new firmware, but they're not weatherproof/resistant. Anyone have any suggestions? Been down that road too?
  13. give it a shot - see what happens, try to narrow it down as far as you can before declaring a hardware failure after that, if it's ONLY when the gpu is being hammered, try under clocking it - start with memory, then try BF - followed by the core, try again. if it happens just randomly whenever, try downloading a linux live usb image - see if it happens under linux maybe a weird w10 problem
