  1. I've had a few people now say this isn't a proper backup solution, can some tell me what a proper backup solution is? All I'm after is a place where I can put all my data that I don't want lost, photos files and home videos and the like, but I would also like to be able to use it for films a music storage streaming. I have about a 900 pound budget which I think should be sufficient from what I've seen so far.
  2. No I'm in the process of compiling a system, which should be silent while idle, but the system should be powerful enough to stream 2 films simultaneously, Thanks for the input I'll look in to the i3, I thought the i7 was a good choice on bang for buck.
  3. couldn't I just get a HDD caddy and put a 6GB drive in to it and use that? can't see why I would need the Vantec? Also do I need a SSD for cache? I've build PC's before but I'm kinda new to the NAS idea.
  4. I was thinking of using it as a 50/50 in a raid 10 format so I would only have 4TB of usable storage. My photos and videos mostly, with all my scanned data as back up, really don't want to lose that stuff plus, I would like to use it to stream films to the TV, or music, but I really don't like lag. so I don't mind spending money on it as long as it works well.
  5. Hi Gays and Gals I've just been told off by the Mrs again about losing files and photos, so enough is enough, I need a Low wattage system as I plan is that it will run constantly and hopefully silently, an be ready for instant access from any device in the house and remotely it should be able to stream music or films to multiple devices at the same time, and also be able a 1 stop point to put my data, that will back it's self up automatically in case of drive failure. my thoughts are http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/tanstair/saved/#view=dyf8dC Thanks Ali
