  1. I have a Dell XPS X8700 running windows 10. I boot from a 250GB SSD and have no issues with that. I ran a clean install of Windows 10 a few months ago and have had no issues with any of that. The only issue I have is that WHENEVER I restart the computer, whether I do it manually or its an automatic restart, it freezes on the Dell screen. It doesn't matter if its part of an install or update, or just because, if I click "restart" it will show its updating or whatever as usual, but then when it gets to the DELL screen it just stops. I've thought, "well maybe it just needs a lot of time for some reason" and I've left it alone for hours and nothing at all changes on screen. What I'll end up doing is doing a forced shut down and then I could literally hit power and start it back up seconds after I force it off and it will boot no problem. Of course if I was updating it'll tell me something like its undoing whatever changes it had made. Another thing is from what I can remember it started doing this even right after I did the clean install. I've changed boot drives a few times, from the original HDD to 1 and then another SSD. Even before I put the new SSD in and even before the clean install it would still do this. I thought it must be some odd hardware issue, but when searching online I see a number of people, very often also using Dell, having the same issue. Now, that doesn't mean that it still can't be a hardware issue but I thought it might make more sense for it to be something else. It seemed there were a fair few people with the issue on their laptops. I figured it was worth a shot seeing if anyone had this issue and was able to fix it. A few things to note: 1. One thing brought up as a solution that I saw was unplugging all peripherals. I did have an external harddrive that I often left plugged in that I thought could be the problem but it didn't matter how little I had plugged in, even nothing, because it still freezes in same place. 2. The only other real thing I saw that seemed somewhat promising only because of its absurdity was to change your power settings to Performance Mode, or something like that. Anyway I tried that and it made no difference. Well that's it. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful to hear them. Thanks for taking the time and if you have any question for me I'll my best to answer them. As it turns out, it must be something to do with the windows update. I say that because after I made this post, I did a "Update and Shutdown" and when I went back to turn it on it froze on the Dell screen. I couldn't believe it. Anyway I actually had to force shutdown twice. After the first one when I turned it back on it did the undoing changes and then froze once again on the dell screen. Then I did another force shutdown and it sort of turned itself back on automatically (like a normal "restart" would). At that point it finally came back on. So long-story less long....I don't know what's going on. I guess it's something to do with the windows update.
  2. Ok I added 2 new pics, specifically for the C drive (boot). Just in case these help with any other ideas. Thank you again for the help.
  3. Ok KarathKasun, I appreciate that. I'll look into that right now.
  4. Here is another thing, I am installing a new program. I select Drive A, and I'm watching the install window and it's putting stuff on Drive C!
  5. Ok I added the winderstat pic. It is absolutely all there. I don't get it. I just checked in that Drive A program file I made and there's 2 things in it. I'm not even sure how to move these now. If I go into the program file or programx86 and go to any of the files, Adobe for instance, I don't see any where in the properties even offering to move. Do you or does anyone know what my best course of action would be? Just reinstall programs on the other drive and delete or uninstall the ones I can from C? I'm guessing I just haven't been as diligent as I thought with installing on A...
  6. Ok LTTC (Lius Tech Tips Community ) I always feel bad about asking questions but you guys pretty much always keep from making me feel too stupid, but if you can't tell from the title, my issue is my boot drive, more specifically the partition on my ssd I use for booting, is filing up and I am not understanding why. The reason I'm not understanding why is because A) whenever possible I choose a different drive to install programs on, B) this is basically the same but I try to only download on my Hard drive, and C) way back when after installing everything I went into the Windows 10 settings to the "Change where new content is saved" section and changed all the different options to different drives. I've got like 2 questions but really I guess as long as the second one can be answered that will be fine for me. 1) Is there some way to make sure that programs are being installed on a different drive? I mean, it's gotta be making sure you choose the location that it's installing on right? Maybe it's just a fluke I'm having this issue. 2) The most important question is How do I move them to a different drive? or maybe better put What is the best way to move them to keep from having issues opening saved files after I move them? I know it may sound stupid, the second part of the second question, but the reason is because before I got the second ssd I was using the "move" option after right clicking program files to put them on my hard drive and when I went to open saved files it would say "file cannot be found" or something like that. I'm adding this so I'm gonna put it in a different color. I just realized that Drive A is showing almost completely unused, but I know that any program I've installed in the last 2 months I've selected (during the installation process) to do so in Drive A. I've even made a file there called Programs. Alright guys, sorry if I sound like a super newb. Let me appeal to your vanity and say even though I may test as genius, I am begging for YOUR help. Yes, YOU are better than me. Remember to see the humor in life, Andrew Just to make it clear: Drive C is a 100GB partition on an SSD Drive A is the rest of that SSD, apprx 365GB Drive E is a 1TB Hard Drive
  7. Haa!!! I guess I should have trusted Linus more. I just watched one of the old NCIX vids of his and fixed the problem in seconds. For anyone who may be wondering... Right click on This PC and select Manage. Select Disk Management. As long as your drives are recognized everything should be listed (Mine was my Disk 0 and had shown 365gb RAW. I selected it and then assigned a letter which asked to format it and even though it was part of my boot drive, the format did not erase anything.) The vid was: How to properly configure the SSD as boot drive and HDD as storage drive Thank you guys again. So much help.
  8. Hey guys, I have sort of another issue. I cloned everything to the external hd so I'm good there, I wanted the clean install. Anyway, I do have a new issue. I don't know why...but as a refresher I was looking at some other video about installing ssd's and not the Linus ncsx ones like usual, and decided I'd make a 100gb partition for windows. Anyway I makes up several (I think 5) partitions dealing with the rest of the drive including the remaining chunk of memory for normal storage. Well I was running into a lot of errors (go figure) and at some point I was repeating the process. So I heard or read that I should "clean" the other partitions. I figured it was just going to redo everything anyway so what's the big deal. Apparently it was a big deal because now I have 3 drives: my old hdd, my old 240gb ssd, and my new boot 500gb ssd but with only 100gb showing. Since I have a convoluted way of asking I'm going to restate the basic issue again right here: I screwed up when installing windows on new boot ssd and created a partition for windows but now I'm missing the other 75% memory of the drive. Should I just like format the drive and set it all up one more time? Or is there another way where I don't have to do that? Again I'm going to be looking up my own info bc I'm not completely worthless but if I can help from you experts too, well why not. Thanks again
  9. LOL what an idiot I am. I was pretty sure it was like nothing. At least I know for sure. I got to hang out on LTT while my kid doesn't shut up instead reading it somewhere else.
  10. Alright, thanks a lot. The thing about leaving the 240 as my boot is, and this is probably my fault for not setting up partitions or something, everything I do is getting put on the ssd and not the bigger hard drive. Like all my program installs, iTunes media, and other crap. I don't know what happened. I thought I was moving much of it over but somehow I still ended up with a full ssd. And, somehow I did like the stupidest thing ever, I'm not even sure how it is possible, but I was trying to move files from one drive to another and I think I canceled something half way through and so like I have a folder full that exists some how on both drives and none at the same time. Like it's taking up space on the ssd according to windirstat, it's location is supposed to be on the hdd and I have a hard time accessing it at all. Like I was trying to change where the desktop folder saved and put it a short cut to it in the file but then moved that folder to the desktop, then was transferring it back to the ssd temporarily but cancelled it so but even though I did it's still there....ha, anyway, I've just backed up everything I can think of that's important to an external drive and I think I'm gonna just clean install on the other drives.
  11. So I have a Dell XPS X8700. It's pretty much stock (core i7 4th gen, 1tb hard drive, 12 gb ram, 460 watt psu...) I added a sata 240gb ssd that I have been using as my boot drive about 2 years ago. Anyway over time I have filled up my ssd and even though I've made attempts at emptying it, it remains mostly full. I just got a sata 500gb ssd and I'm going to add it in, but I had a few questions since I don't do this all this time. 1. If I just added this ssd to my system, would it probably draw more power than my current psu can supply? 2. What's the easiest way to make the new 500 gb my boot drive? Do I need to move everything from the other ssd? Or should I just install windows on it and start with it blank and move things over as I need to? 3. Is there any issues you can think of that I may run into that I should be aware of? Thank you for any help. I have done this all before (well most) it's just been a while and I really haven't done it but once so I don't have a great deal of experience. And of course I'm going to be researching this questions on my own, I just figured why not try to tap into the vast source of knowledge that is the Linus Fan Base.
  12. Yeah the border is screwed up bc of the border, usually I leave a MGS5 theme up but I was looking at different options and this was one up while I was taking the picture. And I have a theme, annoy my wife with all the flashing colors. As for the mousepad it is one of my favorite purchases ever. I wouldn't have paid as much if it weren't rgb of course but I still would have bought it. I've never used a hard mouse pad before and I was blown away by how much I like using it. Having the usb pass thru is great too. Sure you could say it was a waste of money but if you're like that I'm surprised you are a part this community considering every other video is something over the top. That's why I like Linus, he doesn't care what people think as long as he thinks it's cool then he has a reason to do it. But to everyone of you I sincerely thank you for responding. Now....to crank up the brightness and see if I can wake up the snoring wife....
  13. I have really been getting into the rgb lighting with my set up. I've got the corsair strafe rgb, I've got the corsair rgb mouse pad, I've got 2 mice bc the lg one that I love is only once color at a time and the Razer mamba looks awesome but has a less appealing hand feel <insert joke here>. On top of that I've got the whole rgb light strip on the back of my desk giving me tons more color. My tower is a Dell XPS 8700 so it's plain, but I think it kicks tons of ass so i'm good for now. Anyway, the point of all this was to ask if it's ok to leave them on. I generally leave my pc on all the time, I shut the monitors off at night, but for the most part I fall asleep with one corner of my room looking like a magic skittles factory. I know that LED's last for a long time, but should am I looking like having to replace stuff in 5 years or more like 1. I mean I love my rainbow rig being on and looking like an episode of sailor moon, but I want it to last. So....what's the verdict? I'm sure there's going to be a bunch of back and forth, and I look forward to reading it. Thanks to everyone
  14. Haha as much as it kills me...congrats...
