  1. That's what I was thinking, but not necessarily an ex-mining card - more like something new-in-box when I'm able to find something. Wouldn't burn-out be a concern when buying a used GPU from crypto farms?
  2. That's true, I'm also really interested in using Nvidia broadcast to cancel out background noise with all of its AI/ML goodness. I play a huge variety, pretty much whatever me and my friends are feeling. It could be as simple as Among Us or more graphic intensive like Red Dead Online. Think the 3060 is sufficient for 1440p gaming?
  3. I bought a 3060 through Newegg Shuffle, I've been trying for a few months and just selecting all the GPUs they had available. I finally managed to snag a card, and just purchased it yesterday. Card in question is here. After sleeping on it, I'm a bit worried that if its really a worthy upgrade from my 1070, and if I should try to get my hands on a 3070, 3060ti, or even a 6700 XT. I am maybe getting a 20% performance increase. Considering I've also bought a 1440p LG monitor, I'm not sure if the 3060 will be able to game at max rez on future titles much better than the 1070. I guess more VRAM than the 3060ti is cool and all but, eh, I don't know. Any thoughts on this? I could sell my old 1070 + the 3060 for a fair price used, and have enough to get a new GPU + a small profit. But given the shortage, maybe I should just count my blessings and move on?
  4. Honestly, there's a reason why they are that cheap... no one wants them lol The last one I had in my office just activated the kill-switch on a few of our Dell power bricks when I tried using it, so we recycled it recently along with a bunch of old Dell replicators. Might be worth the extra $70 or so to get the TB19 just to make sure you have something functional. At that price, you could probably buy one new as well and have it last years. Occasionally you do find a TB16 that works decently for a while, but I think its still risky IMHO
  5. For your question about PWM: "PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) or modulation with the width of an impulse, is a widespread term in the world of electrical engineering. In short, PWM operates like a switch which constantly cycles on and off, thereby regulating the amount of power the fan or pump motor gains." Make sure you are using PCPartPicker! It is super helpful for first builds. I think for RAM/Memory you should go for another 16GB kit using a more reliable brand like Corsair, Crucial, or G.Skill. Try to get 3000 Mhz or higher, Ryzen really likes fast memory. Otherwise, the part selection looks pretty decent. Maybe consider an aftermarket CPU cooler like at least a Hyper 212 Evo? Maybe an additional 1-2TB SATA SSD for mass storage/games.
  6. Nooooo Killer Wi-Fi is super hit or miss - I have that LAN controller on my mobo and it isn't too bad. For some reason though, I find that a decent Intel wifi network card is honestly a really good upgrade for most laptops, I did this for a family member and speeds almost doubled. I think it was this one. Honestly worth the upgrade, especially if you go the cheap Acer laptop route.
  7. Check out this video, pretty comprehensive overview of MSI Afterburner, a program you can use to control fan speeds/OC settings.
  8. Hey man, beware of the Dell TB15/16s, they are notorious for hardware problems. If you can find the newer TB19s, those are honestly the way to go. There used to be a Thunderbolt controller application from Intel, but a lot of Dell/HP laptops have Thunderbolt support built into the BIOS these days.
  9. Yikes, what a shame. Thats a good little budget gaming laptop too, recommended it to a few friends. The problem is always build quality... Honestly I'm a bit of a fanboy for Acer laptops, they give you great bang for the buck. Just make sure whatever laptop you are using has a decent network adapter to get as much of that Starbucks bandwidth as possible lol
  10. Do you have any sort of OC applied to it? Check your settings with Afterburner, maybe ramp up your fan speed manually there. 85C is a little toasty but isn't crazy high, but its pretty close... anything higher than low 90s to me would be concerning.
  11. That is very true, will be very handy especially if you need to perform a heavier workload with your laptop - you can just RDP to your desktop, better solution than a high-end gaming laptop IMO >:) I think 750w should be more than enough juice, the 3080 requires 750w minimum, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a 3070 unless you'd want to OC. Doing some quick research on you, maybe don't purchase the SeaSonic - Apparently that NZXT C lineup is essentially a re-branded SeaSonic PSU, and fixes the power draw issues the old FOCUS series had! Given that, probably keep the NZXT C PSU. Build looks pretty good otherwise!
  12. Oh cool, you now have the ability to get 2TB of memory! Also, maybe a SeaSonic FOCUS PSU would be a good buy instead of an NZXT C series PSU?
  13. Out of curiosity why Windows 10 Pro? The NZXT power supplies are kinda ehh... do you think you could find an equivalent EVGA, Corsair, or similar?
  14. If you do some really smart shopping, maybe eBay but that is a little risky... I got a used RX 560 for around $125 which isn't too bad. Otherwise, you could check online stock prices routinely and try to wait it out until the end of Summer - supposedly people are guestimating the shortage will be better around then.
