  1. Thanks for the response. I must admit, I am most tempted with the dell.
  2. Hello, Right, I want to get a new monitor. Was hoping some of you might recommend a few based on personal experience. I know some basics e.g. TN has quicker response times, IPS has better colour etc but would rather hear what people have to say based on their own use. ---------------------------------- What's it going to be used for? Mainly gaming and web browsing (Netflix etc) and a little bit of front end web development. What kind of games do I play? A little bit of everything to be honest. Size / Aesthetics etc Currently on 24" so wouldn't really want to go below that if possible. Prefer thin bezel but not critical. Not overly keen on having the one larger monitor. 60hz is fine. Budget? Preferably £250 max, mainly as I would like to end up pairing it with another. However, if there's one uber monitor then maybe up to £400. GPU GTX 780 3GB (could this handle 1440?) ------------------------------------------- So far i've seen the following recommended by other sites: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-UltraSharp-U2414H-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B00H3JIGHA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408381652&sr=8-1&keywords=Dell+UltraSharp+U2414H#productDetails http://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-I2369VM-inch-Monitor-50000000/dp/B00BDBWE0Y http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VG248QE-24-inch-LED-Monitor/dp/B00B19T7QC Mucho gracias
  3. Thanks for the detailed reply. I did suggest the move to SSD for OS as the HDD they have is 250GB, more than enough for their game library. For £25-£30 more, I am sure they will consider it.
  4. Hi all, A friend of mine has managed to get hold of an Nvidia Shield and wants a new PC to go with it. The budget is £300 and the parts required are Mobo, CPU, PSU and RAM. They already have a GPU (750ti), ITX case, HDD and an OS (64 bit). I am chucking in some fans and an after market cooler. So far, I have the following: CPU: Intel i3 4340 - Comparisons showed marginal differences in performance for single threaded applications compared to lower end i5 CPUs. Mobo: Asus H87I PLUS mini ITX - H81 is cheaper however I read that H87 chipset boards will have better build quality? Plus 6gb/s SATA Ram: Kingston HyperX Grey 8GB (2 x 4gb) PSU: Corsair CX430m - Corsair seem reliable from my experience and power draw from the i3 and the 750ti will not be too great. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/3wGcP This comes in around £290 (all from Amazon at the moment). What do you think? I looked at AMD however I am not too familiar with AMD options (a lot of budget builds appear to love the FX-6300) and do not have a lot of personal experience with AMD builds so they are certainly an option. Whilst the ITX case is at hand, other options using bigger form factors/better motherboards are an option. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. So I got taken in by the whole Bitfenix Prodigy wave that was going around and setup a mini itx rig. Whilst it performs OK I just don't feel satisfied with the case. So I am thinking of going a little bigger and looking at a 350D or maybe the Carbide 540. But thought I would just get your opinions on a possible alternative?
  6. IMO they should have focused on a flagship handset much earlier and stuck with it. My old house mate worked for an agency that was hired by HTC to do a lot of training on the handsets in shops and events abroad etc and I would see endless amounts of various handsets to a point where it was difficult to keep up. You ask the average consumer to name a Samsung or Apple phone and I am pretty much sure 99% will say Galaxy and iPhone. Ask them to name an HTC and I think they would struggle. The tablet they brought out was over priced and aimed at the wrong user, with a lot of features benefiting business users (again, just my opinion). Coupled with what was poor advertising/marketing (One advert featured Emily Sandee singing with just a 3 second mention of HTC on the end, what a waste). It is a shame. I currently have a HTC One (coming from an iPhone 4s) and could not be happier with it.
  7. I just watched Awesomesauce's benchmarks and I was just thinking the same thing. Synthetics were different but the games showed on a 3 or 5 fps difference at stock.
  8. Just came across this and thought I'd share it incase anyone was thinking of getting a HD 7990. Scan.co.UK are selling one for £480 (MSI)and are including an MSI Z87-G45 mobo. Also includes the 3 games from their gold tier. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/6gb-msi-radeon-hd-7990-6000mhz-gddr5-28nm-gpu-950mhz-boost-1000mhz-4096-cores-plus-free-msi-z87-g45-
  9. Apologies if this is already doing the rounds. Didn't see anything in the search. Delete if needs be for whatever reason (legal etc). Someone was sent a 290 by mistake after ordering a 290X. Benchmarks etc all posted. Thanks to Super6One from reddit and Primouf from Overclockers forum. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18551717&highlight=r9+290x&page=33 GPU-z http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/1525/dqld.jpg Box and Firestrike scores http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18551717&highlight=r9+290x&page=35

  11. Ha, special offer. Scan.co.uk are also selling them @ around £400.
  12. Overclockers have reduced prices today. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=1914&subid=1341 Gigabyte windforce is selling @ £420 for a week. Was hoping for a slightly bigger drop overall though.
  13. Yup, this is pretty much me all over. My friends are not really into tech a great deal. They are pure console players too so talking to them about Any thing PC related is wasted air.
  14. FYI - Tek did a xfire test with 7970 and 280x. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OWnbEHMLRog#t=367
