Popple2000 reacted to LAwLz in Samsung CRG9 - awesome monitor, totally ignored so far
Seems to me like you just didn't know the difference between the two, since you said a monitor with 92 RGB coverage is terrible here:

92% sRGB coverage would be bad (that's what I expect from a ~100 dollar monitor).

92% AdobeRGB coverage is excellent and really, really, high end. Only the best of the best monitors (outside of reference monitors) get close to 100% AdobeRGB coverage. But it doesn't really matter anyway, since that's for printing. DCI-P3 is what matters, and 95% coverage on that is fantastic.

I am not looking for debate. I am looking to correct all the misinformation you are spreading in this thread. You don't seem to know what you're talking about. It's quite obvious you have mixed up quite a few terms when you call 92% AdobeRGB coverage "terrible", and for no reason bring up HDR10 and compares that to DisplayHDR (which are two completely different standards which deals with different things).

I can't really "agree to disagree" with you when you are objectively wrong.

How can you be that? It's pretty obvious that you hate Samsung, but don't let that cloud your reasoning skills.
This is a fantastic monitor. It is one of the best on the market, and there only a handful of monitors which come close to being as good. Those that do also cost as much if not more.

And can you please clarify what you mean when you say you think the Samsung will "look worse"? Look worse in what way and why are you so confident in that assessment?

And when you say HDR10 do you mean DisplayHDR1000 or do you mean a monitor which supports HDR10? Again, DisplayHDR1000 and HDR10 are two different things.

The LG 27UL500-W is also a HDR10 monitor. Would you say this Samsung CRG9 monitor looks worse than that LG monitor? Both are HDR10 but you are confident that the Samsung one is the worst looking HDR10 monitor, right?
The LG one has 98% sRGB coverage, and 300 nits sustained brightness. It can't even pass DisplayHDR400 certification, yet you are confident that it looks better than this DisplayHDR1000 monitor from Samsung.

Or do you admit that you got HDR10 and DisplayHDR1000 mixed up?
If not, I can keep on posting lots of low-end monitors which are clearly inferior, but also feature HDR10 support. I got a long list of them.

The VESA standard is called DisplayHDR, not just HDR.
DisplayHDR has three different levels. 400, 600 and 1000.

HDR10 is an open standard for HDR content. It defines what color space the video should be in (Rec. 2020), the bit depth (10 bits) and the EOTF (SMPTE ST 2084 PQ).

DIsplayHDR is a standard for hardware which means the display is of a certain quality and has certain capabilities.

HDR10 is a standard for how HDR content is packaged, and a HDR10 monitor supports and understands those formats. For example in HDR content which uses EOTF it will tell the display "produce this color at 400 nits of brightness" while if we used the regular gamma standard it would tell the display "produce 50% of your max brightness" (which in this case would be 500 nits, but on another monitor it might be 200 hits).

Yes, this monitor is a HDR10 monitor because it supports and understand all those formats defined in the HDR10 standard.

Yes, this monitor is a DisplayHDR1000 monitor because it supports all the things specified in the VESA standard as well.

Dude... What? I think you're using words you don't understand.
RGB and WCG are two different things. RGB is a collection of different color spaces which uses red, greed and blue, including things like sRGB, Adobe RGB, Adobe Wide Gamut RGB, ProPhoto RGB, etc, etc...
WCG is just a generic term for "wide color gamut", which this monitor has because it has 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut.
The 92% coverage is for AdobeRGB, which is a wide color gamut used for printing.
The standard color gamut used by computers is called sRGB. Most monitors can't even fully reproduce that color space, but this monitor has a 125% coverage of it.

No it isn't. It's within all the criteria necessary for DisplayHDR1000 certification. It's even listed on VESA's website, along with the other 8 monitors which achieved that certification.

    It does.

Depends on what your definition of WCG is (since that's just a generic term and not a standard with rigid definitions). I'd say 95% DCI-P3 coverage is WCG.

Again, it has 95% DCI-P3 coverage. What you're talking about is AdobeRGB, which is far wider than sRGB (which this monitor has 125% coverage of).
AdobeRGB is a color space meant to include most of the colors printable by a CMYK printer, but mapped to RGB colors.
92% sRGB coverage would have been really meh.
92% AdobeRGB coverage is really impressive.

Here is a picture showing AdobeRGB, DCI-P3 and sRGB against each other.

    Hey there,
Thanks so much for the reply.
I'm not sure how to best describe it...not rich and full sounding?

        1. Movies, nothing - they sound amazing. Music on the other hand.... not a nice deep rich sound like i'm used to and i'm pretty sure I even heard one of the A9's clip(I haven't turned it back up since.
        2. Yes I did use the mic they provided.
        3. I have no idea - I am not even sure where to look for that
        4. I am sorry to say that again, I am not certain and will have to look for that as well.

I can mostly relate to what you are saying here, it definitely sounds less muffled and way more clear. I just feel like for that kind of money... I'm not sure why I would still have to add another amp seeing as my 12 year old Yamaha pushed them just fine /shrug

That said, who doesn't want a dedicated amp am I right?

No, just some jackass who was running his mouth saying that the Strix cards are the best and they don't suffer from coil whine.  You're like the 3rd or 4th person on this forum alone who has noticed coil whine.  It is completely normal though, happens when your card is doing frames of 500+.  Happens to my 780 when I am in loading or exit screens of Unigine Heaven.  Perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.

Loading screens only? A GPU always coil whines at ridiculous frame rates like 500fps etc, it's perfectly normal and you shouldn't be gaming at 500 fps. As long as it doesn't whine at full load and normal frame rates like 90 it's fine. It doesn't do any harm btw.

put fraps and see how many fps u get on the loading screens, im guessing you get more than 1000fps which is normal for it to whine a bit

    Should accept it.

    Hey guys, question for ya'll.
I was running 2 GTX 460's in SLI until my trusty Gigabyte 460 let go the other day.
That being said, I am now feeling the pinch with only 1 460 pushing my games now.
I have noticed a HUGE amount of Ati cards  - 280x, 290's( mainly what im looking at ) for sale on used sites all over the place for anywhere from 200-350$.
I have been burned by Ati in the past with their drivers and am nervous about venturing back into the red zone.
I come here not to start a red vs green debate but to find out if a used R9 290 for example would be ok to buy or should I just pick up a GTX 760 and wait for the 800 series from Nvidia to finally show it's face.
The main card I am currently looking at is a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC, I would hope to get it in the 300$ range.

    Thanks in advance !
