  1. Hey all, I am soon to be building a computer for university and I am look for monitor suggestions. I am very much looking forward to it and I have a few things in mind for what I would need. - 21 to 24 inches - minimum resolution of 1080p, thought 1440p would be a nicer step up as I will have the power to drive it - refresh rate of 120Hz, preferably My budget is $200 dollars and I would rather have it cheaper than closer to the cap as I would be purchasing a second eventually. Thanks in advance, MystiqThunder Great to be back on the forum.
  2. Do you have the option to run the graphics from the motherboard? If you do... and assuming it does post where you could see everything, download the latest driver for the video card. Then install it and re-seat the card. If you do not have on-board graphics or you are unable to install the driver with the card not detected, just simply try re-seating the card. Also try a different PCI-Express slot.
  3. I know right? Now I don't think I would ever make a mistake that stupid. Oh wait...
  4. Are you using on board graphics, meaning from the motherboard, or from a video card?
  5. Just as Jake said above me, it would be better if you shared a budget. So if you could, that would be great. Right now I can only give you advice on which parts are sufficient. Personally, I would prefer to not get the 4930K as I do not like LGA 2011 (prefer a 4770K), but maybe it is personal preference. So you could keep that if you want the extra memory and the 6 cores. Also, you really should go for at least a 120GB SSD. Booting and overall usability is just so much more smooth. Also, it would make your key programs a lot faster and is guaranteed to speed up your render times. You could even use a couple SSDs to use as a "scratch disk." Regarding graphics, if you do not do too much gaming, go for a workstation class card. Otherwise, I guess the Titans are the best bet if you plan to game a lot. Everything overall looks pretty good. But, please make sure you get an SSD or two.
  6. Honestly, it should be okay if your running a "just the usual" PC. If you start adding more expansion cards, water cooling pumps, more than a usual amount of drives or fans, etc... Then you may have trouble. Regardless, personally I would at least go with a 650W. Even for upgrade reasons.
  7. This would not work because it is written for a different CPU architecture and you need a UEFI ready MoBo. I know it sucks, I thought of it too. SOURCE: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/62364-steam-os-on-raspberry-pi/
  8. Forgot to connect the CPU power... Started it up, fans span, lights glowed, no post. First time too. I was surprised my parents didn't snap. I figured it out quite quickly though.
  9. Hey everyone, I just started using Sync and I am loving it so far! I do have a few questions that hopefully you could clarify for me. Right now I have three desktops connected and my iPad. So here are my questions: 1.) Are the folders I sync with my iDevice being saved or stored on it? 2.) Lets say I have a video synced up already. How do I open it? I realize that you click on it and "Open With" one of the listed Apps but that does not seem to work. Clicking save does not seem to work either. The only thing that does is previewing it, but no playback controls are enabled. Thanks in advance, MystiqThunder
  10. This is a known issue that has not been 100% fixed for a while now, unfortunately.
  11. I will install it first on my computer with my NVIDIA card. Then I will wait to install it on my main rig with my 7970 before I try streaming. So excited. In the meantime, I need two things. One, does anyone have a dual-boot installation guide yet? And two, any tutorials on using a PS3 controller for Big Picture?
  12. I think we will be able to download SteamOS as soon as the prototype firmware is shipped, or so I have heard. Hopefully we will be able to get SteamOS on our machines Friday.
  13. It is clear that a lot of people disagree with these builds. Some may not disagree, but that might replace x with y. Now I think it is important to realize that Linus has these up so you could use them as reference. I am sure he does not expect everyone to run and buy these specific parts. Personally, I would make a couple changes but this is as good as it is going to get and Linus did a GREAT job in setting a benchmark for each tier of systems.
  14. Exactly. I know this because I remember learning that making Minecraft mods, you needed to decompile even though it is technically illegal. Notch had a problem with moderns because of this. When it was Jeb's turn to rule though, he was okay with it, much more opening to the modding community. Also, relating to jailbreaking. Jailbreaking is not illegal unless you are finding the jailbreak. Because what you are doing is finding exploits in Apple code. If you are simply jailbreaking your iDevice, it is NOT illegal as you are most likely injecting code not altering their code. What is definitely illegal with jailbreaking is downloading cracked games in such. Jailbreaking by itself is NOT ILLEGAL, the only real punishment is voiding your warranty.
