The ASRock Extreme 9 did commit the deadly sin of emplying a small fan on the chipset, that's not good albeit perhaps a small flaw if it is reliable. As for the Z97 Deluxe from ASUS, it's more expensive than the Z97-WS at my retailer and there's no way I'd choose it over the WS, I actually like the way the WS looks to be honest I just think it would have been nice if they put the headphone amplification stuff from the lower end/ROG boards on it. The 2 cheaper ROG boards the Ranger and the Hero are currently top seller position 1 and 2 at my retailer, however I'd much rather buy the Z97-A which is not only cheaper but a much better deal I feel. I'm not really a ROG fan or a ROG hater, I will never own a ROG motherboard because I don't care about most of the features on them and I also don't really like red/black colour schemes. I think that the Z97-A is the best choice for a gamer's board for Z97 chipset, if I were buying Z97 today that would be my board of choice as it has just the features I need and nothing more. Dat X99 Deluxe though, that is sexy lookin', that and the MSI X99 SLI PLUS in all black.

The I Deluxe is pure witchcraft, all those features crammed on and solid VRM on a daugher board. The Asmedia USB 3.0 controller isn't very good on my board either, on W7 for instance I cannot use my USB microphone in one of the ports it just constantly connect/disconnect loops, if I use one of the Intel ones it's fine. It's fine for my USB 3.0 flash keys and a lot of other USB 2.0 devices but will have funny disconnect/reconnect errors from time to time. I have the wifi GO module in the box, I never used it because my router is about 5ft from the PC and I use ethernet. I see that on Z97 ASUS are killing it with the Z97-A and Z97-K boards selling extremely well and looking well featured for the money. In terms of the premium boards, between Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS who do you think uses the best power circuitry components? MSI do market theirs heavily and so do Gigabyte with the 'Military Class' and 'Ultra Durable' terms, but ASUS don't seem to really bother doing that and still outsell everyone.

Interesting information, I feel like my board was a good choice now, I only wish ASUS had a better reputation for RMA I'm dreading ever having to use it but will probably buy an ASUS motherboard when I upgrade. This board (P8Z77-V pro) will probably keep on ticking for a couple more years, I don't have a need to upgrade my 3570K yet. I will note though, even back on P67 chipset the ASUS UEFI BIOS was really good, others were not.

What is the issue with Killer NICs? Is it because they use a PCIE lane while the Intel one runs from the chipset? Also, what about ASRock, how do you rate them against MSI?
