  1. Thanks to everyone thus far for the feedback. I will only be using solid state storage. I plan to do soundproofing on as much of the internal surface area as practical. In regard to the PSU orientation and position, I know heat rises, but since there would be positive air pressure in the case, the PSU wouldn't be starved for air (albeit warm air). That's the primary reason I oriented the CPU cooler the way I did. Do you think temps will be too high in this orientation?
  2. I come bearing designs and poorly drawn MS Paint diagrams. The idea behind this case/system is to basically get away with as few fans as possible while maintaining decent temperatures (70 MAX on CPU, 85 MAX on GPU) at full load on the hardware. I'd rather the system run a little warmer in the quest for quiet. In this proposed build, the system would be running a 5820K and GTX 980. It would use an HX850i PSU with the stock fan replaced with a Noctua (for the lolz), and have a custom fan curve. (please ignore the label on the PSU) Ideally, I would like to use a dual tower air cooler with a single fan sandwiched between, but I am unsure if it is physically possible to orient the cooler in such a manner. *Apologizing in advance as the pictures are apparently super hi res and obnoxious to scroll through* The following may give a better perspective of what I'm trying to accomplish. Please note that this was an earlier revision when I had plans to use an mATX board and venting along the front edge. To cover the top, I would fabricate a rectangular piece of modders mesh so that it would be flush with the top edge of the case. I would line it with a low density foam (.125-.25 inches thick) to keep out dust. I would like to put it on hinges, mounted from the back. However, then I have to run every cable I want to plug in through the space created. If anyone has an idea on how to make a sort of "quick disconnect" hinge system, I would love to hear it. So that's what I've got so far. Please leave comments, opinions, recommendations, wisdom, pictures of miniature giraffes, etc...
  3. Turned out really well. Are you considering painting the motherboard heatsinks and peeling those blue stickers off the IO? It looks like you would have enough space on the chipset heatsink to paint a black rebel decal over it.
  4. My tiny 60gb SSD has reached capacity. Once I've got a new, and bigger SSD, what's the best way to move the OS and all the other files onto the new drive without having to do a clean reinstall? I also have a 1TB HDD for file storage, which I intend to leave untouched.
  5. I see stupid people.

  6. My wireless card was causing the error. I pulled the card and Windows installed fine. However, after I reinstalled the card, the error came back. What's making that happen?
  7. First time trying Windows 8, I'm getting an error on install. This is being installed on a blank drive. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL It's all new hardware, but it's all recognized and is from reputable brands. What's happening here?
  8. the cables soldered to the back of the motherboard is eerily awesome. why waste time sleeving when there are no cables to sleeve? in case i didn't say it already i"m drooooooooooooling over dem cables. subbed
  9. That looks horrible compared to Bitspower's.
  10. I'd pull off the heatsinks and tape over the chips and interface. Spray'em and put the heatsinks back on. I've sprayed PCBs with Krylon and Plastidip and haven't had issues...
  11. In order to do a RAID Z setup, I would just need a RAID card of some variety purely for connectivity, right?
  12. So I've got this genius idea to fabricate a new front/top panel out of a single piece of aluminum. My only concern is that it would have to be a 3-4mm thick piece of aluminum. And where the hell would I get something like this done?
  13. Assuming I had 8 4TB drives and a compatible RAID card (Which I do not), which configuration would you go with and why? Just curious...
