  1. True (why did i forgot this?) But the wouldn't you also experience issues in windows? But trying to run Memtest86+ can't hurt.
  2. Go into AMD Catalyst control centre and configure you games to use the AMD GPU there. Found this really terribly youtube video. Watch at own risk, mute audio and skip to 2:33
  3. The number of reads does not "damage" the SSD only writes so don't worry about reads
  4. Very few laptops has a removable GPU (well laptops that uses AMD APUs have in the way that its on the CPU) Its a lot more likely than not that you can't remove the GPU in you laptop What was the laptop that you had?
  5. Probably someone who used to work withe BGA chips and reflow ovens
  6. Was also going to say the XIgmatek Dark Knight (Hawk edition?) At least give it a look
  7. "One does not simply remove the GPU in a laptop,, You could try the oven method though i fixed a HP DV9500 that way... it failed 1 month after :( Then i did it again... One month after. And the i tried a third time at i gave it too much time in the oven, so i destroyed it with a hammer :D (Rest in pieces DV9500) But i have seen a HP 8510w or a very similar machine form the same time (Core 2 due, Quadro graphics, same size and construction) Very nice laptop sad to see it end like this :(
  8. O_o 385-400 is if you use Fahrenheit! 400 Celsius = all plastic melts and burn, solder melts GPU core and RAM would probably chip into small pieces I used 200-210 Celsius for about 8 minus to fix my 9800GTX and it works now :D
  9. And it its a laptop the check if it has a modem and install the modem driver. Nearly all these "PCI controller for simple communication" on laptops are due to modem drivers.
  10. When my 9800GTX failed it did it spontaneously. The game locked up all of the sudden and then I reset the PC. When it booted again it had weird blue lines in the BIOS and in windows. I later did the oven trick and it works grate now xD
  11. LOL i selected Windows XP Professional 32bit because i didn't what OS it is running... Oh well it should work
  12. Don't know what it is but: If its something with the panel itself you probably can't fix it yourself If its something with the panel itself then a techstore wouldn't also be able to fix it I think its time to say good buy to BenQ 24" You have been a great display :'(
  13. What kind of computer is it? Brand. Model number?
  14. As I said i don't know the name for it. But windows has some kind of built in GPU driver or renders the graphics with the CPU or something. That will give a video signal but is so slow that even if you could do anything over 600x800 it would be so slow that it would be useless. (This happened to my old Clevo M5X0V based laptop because the GPU driver wasn't installed) BTW about finding a BIOS it seams that HP does still have at support page for your laptop: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3635721&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3369263&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#120
  15. Maybe Windows is using GPU emulation/CPU rendering or what ever its called? Then the GPU would be disabled and you normally can't go any higher than 600x800 (at least in XP if i remember right) What's the manufacture and model of the laptop? (Even if its just a no name Clevo OEM PC)
  16. Maybe try to uninstall you graphics card driver in safe mode (hit F8 during boot) and then install them again.
  17. Go with the IPS monitors. And there is no reason to worry about 5ms response time.
  18. Random freezes = Check HDD Don't know anything about the other issue though.
  19. Just an FYI the older SanDisk SSD don't preform that amazing. On the other hand their newer "Extreme II" got a pretty good review form AnandTech. But maybe you just picked that SSD because you just wanted a cheap in the build
  20. Echo. Just reinstall. Had a similar where my laptop lost power during boot and i couldn't run any games or install new programs. i tried CHKDISK but it just replaced a few damaged files with new files that was also corrupt. Then i tried to use the recovery partition on the laptop. Which apparently also was damaged. Finally i used a recovery DVD that i made when i got the laptop and that worked.
  21. It seams that its not possible. As @Askew already said games will only stay in your library if you made a purchase through Steam (http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3034946) On a side note Gear Up which i played in Alpha does stay in my library even though i haven't bought any extra stuff in game. And I somehow have a different version of the game, as i have a few paid items unlocked and if i search the steam store it says that i have neither the free F2P version nor the Premium version installed.
  22. Firewire voltages are confusing. Can we agree on that? :D
  23. Well if you want USB 3.0 then linus recommend a Sliverstone PCIe 2.0 card (it has both internal headers and ports on the back) If you just want USB 2.0 the idk
  24. The sites that i found says that Firewire is normally about 24-25V... But the point is the same: It won't work
