Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from Electronics Wizardy in Lga 2011 hardware recommendation
You do not have to use Windows server. Normal Windows 10 will work just fine. Depends on your budget and use case. X79 is one of the chipsets on the LGA 2011 socket, however it would be recommended to buy X99 instead. Yes. Yes. There may be better deals on AliExpress, I haven't and don't spend a lot of time on that site.

ah I see okay that does sound difficult to work around. I guess I'll have to abandon the internal PSU then and fix it into my pc. but first I'll have to find some replacement parts and check which parts I fried and which are still fine. Thanks for your help though, greatly appreciated!

In theory yes, you could resolder it, but it's possible there's more damage on the board than what you can see with the naked eye.

If the metal still makes contact when you put the chip on, try taping it on and checking if the game works at all. If it does, you may be able to get the job done with a little hot glue.

So just to clarify, you're trying to make a USB drive boot to an image to install on your MS-DOS virtual machine?

If that is in fact your PSU, I wouldn't recommend overclocking, if you put more stress on it, the ripple will increase and in return would stress your hardware even more, and might cause unexpected shutdowns, but i have no clue if it will actually kill your hardware, but ATX specifications are there for a reason

Yeah, your overclocking gains would be minimal even if you were to overclock.

If you went out and bought something like a Corsair CX550M, that would be an excellent option.

Efficiency means nothing, you want quality in a PSU.

Only on X58, and mostly trial and error, lol. There's some bois (IIRC Ground and a couple others) on the X58 thread in my sig who have binned tons of chips and know a lot more about BLCK overclocking and average safe OCs and clocks for most X58 chips. Don't know much else beyond that, I know older platforms can do BLCK OCs as well, newer ones are much trickier and become unstable really quickly.

Actually Ryzen processors run cooler and draw less power than Intel processors, they operate at slightly lower performance but with much better power consumption
