That motherboard is pretty low end, it has a pretty small heatsink on the VRM. I wouldn't expect it to overclock that high.

Define gaming, if some light 2D games or old 3D games, sure, other than that, either it won't run at all, or just plain unenjoyable.

No worries, I've not solved the problem, but I understand what's what.
As it stands, there is a restore command on this Mac, so I'm going that route.

Thank you for all your help 🙂

Seems pretty easy, it's mostly all done in Terminal outside of having the USB drive and formatting it.

    Unfortunately not.

It's been years since I needed to create a bootable OSX installer, and it worked the first time for me 😞
Other folks here, or elsewhere on the internet might have a solution for you though.

The 7700X and 7900X perform almost identically in gaming. The only advantage the 7700X would have is that it has fewer cores to split it's power budget between. The 7900X's advantage is in multithreaded applications.

This is typically the answer with the older Macs. Kind of annoying, but it's honestly half the reason I kept my iMac around as long as I did.

It's not until buying a MacBook that I realized I have no idea what the password for my iMac is anymore 😄

To my knowledge this model wouldnt have a recovery mode, so you'd likely need to track down another mac to create another form of legitimate bootable media

@Crunchy Dragon Awesome! Glad to know I'm not completely off base. (It's been a while, lol.)

I'll look into AIO cooler - steel case is a tough call, as I really like the glass look, so I'll have to think about it more. Ultimately the best solution for recording will probably be using a separate room, not sure I could get it quiet enough anyhow.

I think I'm fine going without iGPU then, will just be more hassle once it's time for debugging. "iGPU Multi-monitor" not needed.

Unfortunately I don't live near a Micro Center, nearest one is in Atlanta. (It's like a tech desert here in Alabama.)

I think I agree on Win10, I got burned back in the day upgrading OS right after buying audio preamp, driver was immediately busted and never fixed 😞

On the case - I actually realized that I already own the black version, lol, probably went through the exact same decision process. You're right, it is an amazing case!

Crunchy Dragon reacted to Eigenvektor in Windows installation questions
The Windows 7 installer has no USB 3 support. So you'd need to install it using an USB 2 port, or you'd have to modify the installer before installation.

As long as the manufacturers of your hardware still have Windows 7 drivers, your hardware should work. You really shouldn't use Windows 7 anymore though, since support has ended, so it won't be getting any more security updates.

EK's custom loop configurator works pretty well in my experience: https://www.dev.ekwb.com/custom-loop-configurator

I haven't built a loop with it personally(outside theorycrafting and for fun), but it's easy to use and intuitive.

Z790 won't require a BIOS update to use 13th gen CPUs, but Z690 most likely will(depending on when your board left the factory).

Good silencers are usually $800-1200, then a $200 tax.

The wait time SHOULD be improving significantly as they've started processing electronic Form 4s. I got a bit unlucky and filed for this one about a week before the ATF launched electronic options. This one took right about a year on a paper form, but for reference last Form 1 was electronic and took 28 days. Still sucky, but MILES better.
The wait is by far the worst part. This has been my longest wait time, my last suppressor was about 7 months, now this one was right at a year.
They're expensive because they're generally made of some fairly specialized materials, and they're still pretty niche. If/when they become more mainstream prices will come down a lot. They're basically a small but super heavy duty car muffler.
    ^^^That too. I guess I'm either a super villain or a ninja. 🥷

Honestly I just like them because they make shooting a lot more pleasant. I think basically all rifles should be suppressed.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to Eigenvektor in Does brand manufacturer matter a lot?
That depends on your definition of good. Performance between manufacturers is pretty much the same and factory overclocks these days aren't as impressive as they used to be.

However, having a better cooler is still better. It might keep the card cooler, giving it some more headroom for boosting clocks and it might also simply be less noisy. And if a manufacturer is good with their warranty, this is also better if you should need to make use of it.

I would try to find reviews for these cards. There's usually some site that has comparisons between these manufacturers. They will tell you if e.g. a card's cooler is much louder than other models under load etc.

The main difference between companies is cooling capability and customer support.

EVGA was arguably best in the business for both until the Nvidia split, I'd probably say Asus currently has the best heatsinks. No idea who would have the best customer support.

I got a text from my FFL on Monday that he had a stamp in for me.

Picked up a second Rugged Razor, this one will live on my 16" DMRish 5.56.

    Ordered - 11/12/2021
    Form Submitted - 12/2/2021
    Check Cashed - 12/22/2021
    Approved - 11/8/2022
    Arrived at FFL - 11/21/2022
    Picked up - 11/22/2022

355 days from submission to pickup, but I got unlucky and filed this about a week before the ATF launched EF4s. So this is likely one of the last paper F4s in the system.

Could be valid, what kind of connectivity?
That's inherent to gaming computers, nothing wrong with that.  The GPU getting hot means your system is utilizing it properly.  The only way it's gonna be less hot is if you put more fans in your case or identify poor airflow in the case.  But this stuff is built to get hot, heat isn;t an issue as it'll just throttle if it gets too hot, but the 6700 shouldn't be throttling with a 2060, especially if you have any kind of aftermarket cooler.  If you are using the stock cooler, perhaps a better upgrade would be a basic 20e-30e aftermarket cooler.

Actually, with a faster CPU, the GPU would actually rtun hotter as it would be more likely to always be at 99% util.
I suppose, but it's not like you'll ever really see it (it's inside your case and under a heat sink), and a week later the luster of the shiny new thing will be gone
