B-But muh aesthetics...
I'm totally not planning to overspend on red/black custom length @CableMod cables with the aluminum combs once I get the measurements down, purely because they look pretty and it'll let me take my cable management to 13/10 ?

Get a bendy boi SLI bridge and give me your money.

It wouldn't match up with my 780s, sadly. There's no way for any FE card to line up with these boyes in an SLI config:
They're rather wide...

Crunchy Dragon reacted to RejZoR in Closer to a spinning drive - consumer SSD reliability tested
Even if SSD's are no more reliable than HDD's, there is no denying they are WAY faster. Both in sequential and random access speeds. Besides, how many people bought SSD because it was suppose to be "more reliable"? Plus, they have other benefits like less heat (I remember how much cooler my ACER Aspire One was with Intel's 80GB SSD than with regular HDD that it came with). And there are also other reliability benefits like immunity to mechanical shocks which is super useful for laptops.
Just run Crystal Disk Info as resident app so it monitors SSD or HDD at all times and chance of having drive just dying on you out of the blue becomes tiny. I've been on SSDs for years, almost from its beginnings with those Intel 80GB drives that were one of first best performing SATA drives after all the JMicro failures. Then I had 128GB M4 drive in my other laptop, then 256GB SSD in next laptop and now I'm again on 3rd laptop with SSD. Desktop has been running Samsung 850 Pro 2TB for several years now. There is no way I'll ever be going back to HDD. I did buy a HDD recently, but for bulk storage only. It's a 5400 RPM Barracuda 8TB. Coz I wanted it to be super quiet and it is. And all it stores are big files like videos, backup ISOs and stuff like that. That they are still useful for. Everything else, SSD all the way.

Fans and the stuff under the custom parts section should get here today, I will need to use the stock T2 cables till I can get a cablekit and probs some other stuff (like an SLI bridge) to bring the aesthetics to 11/10. Here's a test fit pic with a different PSU:
EDIT: Oh also forgot to note, the 970 is just a placeholder for my X5670 lol, I may use that, a W3670, or an X5675. PCPP doesn't actually have the Xeons listed so I had to make do lol.

Yeah. If this somehow doesn't work out, I can snag a Z77 setup from another guy I know featuring an i5-3570K.

Well, the auction didn't work out. What I'll probably end up doing is snagging a board and CPU from a buddy of mine until I decide to shell out for another X99 board...
It's not a terrible setup, Z390-E and an i7-8700. Should still be plenty of power for a while.

No harm in keeping up on what's going on in the used market

Crunchy Dragon reacted to Beowulff83 in Gtx 970 good in 2020 1080p any users?
You should be able to run up to a rx 580, but i wouldn't look at overclocking much of anything with a 450 watt unit. I am currently running a gtx 1060 6gb with a cx450 on my kids rig.

GTX 970 isn't that much better than a 1050Ti, you wouldn't be gaining a whole lot.

B-But HiGhEr CloCks ?
If the X99-E has what you need, is cheaper, and you figure you can live with only a 3.6-3.7Ghz uncore (I haven't died yet with my EVGA board doing that), then defo get that lol.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to Zando_ in General Intel HEDT Xeon/i7 Discussion
I was calling the platform un-fun lol. I ran it too at one point and I like to think I have fun with my PCs ?. Lowkey ree-ing at it being pitched on my precious HEDT thread too though, to be fair.
I don't even know what AGP is lol, my experience is limited to X58, X79, X99, Z370, X370/B450/X470, and before that I had some Core 2 Quad stuff but not on an OCable chipset (Acer OEM board lol, with a Q6600 running Windows Vista). So my actual having fun with hardware experience only extends as far back as X58, so 2009. Thus why I compared my experience with X470 to X58, because that's the platform I've mained for the longest, and also the platform I moved to Ryzen from.
Most seem to go for around $40, some outliers at $55, and paired sets at around $100. So yee the X5680 does sit closer to the X5690 than the X5675 on the pricing spectrum.
I'd go for the X99-A, depends on what features you want from the board though. The A has the OC socket, meaning you should be able to get past the 3.6-3.7Ghz wall on the uncore, likely push around 4-4.4 depending on bin and what voltages you're comfortable with on a daily.

Noice.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to minibois in Why is 2GB of my 8GB Ram being Reserved?
It's because your CPU has a GPU built in, that needs memory too:
I think you can change how much is reserved in Ryzen Master or your BIOS. Can't remember which.
Maybe you can simply turn off the iGPU in BIOS too? Since you're running a separate GPU

Crunchy Dragon reacted to SteveGrabowski0 in $160 GTX 1070 worth it?
I'm usually not a big fan of buying used, but in this case he can see it in action at his friend's place, and it's about 26.5% faster than a 1650 Super that would cost him about $185 after tax. So with a price like that and low chance of getting burned this one seems like a no-brainer. I wish I had a friend offering a 1070 for $160. ?
-
Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from SteveGrabowski0 in $160 GTX 1070 worth it?
Definitely.
You'd be incredibly hard-pressed to find a better card for $160.

One at a time.
If you need better internet connection, get a better wifi card, ethernet, or an AP
