Fear not my subjects, for we shall now try installing graphics drivers for Windows 8 on Windows 10!

Why though? What graphics card today has Windows 8 drivers but doesn't have Windows 10 drivers?

  2. Ashley MLP Fangirl

..why? i use kepler cards and haven't had issues with either my GTX 780Ti or GTX 690 on Windows 10...

@imreloadin I want some kind of display driver that isn't Microsoft's basic one, and I'm now stuck on Windows 10.

@firelighter487 same here, my GTX 780 still has Windows 10 support.

Apparently AMD cuts off support for their cards before Nvidia, even my GTS 250 has Win10 drivers available.

oh i thought it was your main machine lmao, yea with that old of a chip using an old driver might work.

  6. Crunchy Dragon

It seems to have installed just fine.

My HDD is only SATA2, and it's a 5400RPM drive, so it's idling at 100% currently.

oof... time to buy an SSD for €30...

(you can actually get decent name brand 120gb ssd's now for that price, holy duck)

  8. Crunchy Dragon

    Crunchy Dragon

I probably will actually do that in a bit.

Along with a bit more memory.

  9. Ashley MLP Fangirl

    Ashley MLP Fangirl

how much has it got? 4gb?

  10. Crunchy Dragon

    Crunchy Dragon

    Yeah, 4GB.

If I could get by on 4GB on my main laptop, I'd swap the DIMMs, but I do so much more on my main laptop than I'll ever need this one for.

Also fun fact I just discovered: if the HDD is at 100%, the CPU is at 10-20%. If the CPU is at 100%, the HDD is at 20-30%. Funny how that works.

  11. Ashley MLP Fangirl

    Ashley MLP Fangirl

    that's bottlenecks for ya...

and yea 4gb on Windows 10 is really tough... i can get by with it on Linux or something similar that's lightweight (my chromebook has 4gb) but on Windows.. no..

  12. Crunchy Dragon

    Crunchy Dragon

Yeah, I should have gone for 32 bit. But because I'm a snob, I only ever install 64 bit operating systems on everything.

  13. Ashley MLP Fangirl

    Ashley MLP Fangirl

32 bit OS's shouldn't exist anymore. those things are the reason crappy coded apps and drivers are still around.

if you want something that'll make that laptop fly try lubuntu on it. from cold boot that uses 300mb ram :)

  14. Crunchy Dragon

    Crunchy Dragon

I think I have that on one of my retro systems, unless I put WinXP back on....

  15. Ashley MLP Fangirl

    Ashley MLP Fangirl

try it on there. on something that low specced you're not gonna do stuff that you need Windows for i suppose..

I wanna throw some games at it for the giggles.

It does have a dGPU after all, I'd be a bit of a fool not to.

    Linux supports steam...

also dare i suggest that a modern up to date Linux OS with the latest drivers will game better than Windows 10 (with all of it's crap in the background) and old drivers?

  18. Crunchy Dragon

    Crunchy Dragon

    I believe it.

I don't however believe that some of the games I want to throw at this thing will run on Linux, though...

Wine is a thing... old games usually work with it.
