Seeing a lot more $1000 builds being labelled as "budget builds" here on the forums.
Kinda rethinking the term "budget" if you ask me, although I guess at that price range most of your components for a gaming rig would be in the budget range...

@Energycore Those were the days :')
My build cost $750 USD when i build it in 2016 without monitor and peripherals of course

Yes your definition is correct but budget in this case means inexpensive.
Whenever someone mentioned budget its usually means inexpensive.
Like budget gaming mice,budget psu,budget build,budget headphone,budget air cooler,etc
So when someone mentioned that u can expect that the product will be cheap/inexpensive.

Seeing as how the same model of my 15 year old Dell is currently going for $300 CAD on ebay and the same model of my 5 year old laptop is currently going for $1100 CAD on amazon (I paid about $600) I'd say it's due to the sky rocketing prices of computers and computer components.
I tried to scout out components for a build I would consider "good" but not great and had a hard a time staying under an $1800 budget. Conversely I tried to scout out components for a build I would consider to be one tier above my laptop and had a hard time staying under an $800 budget. The only difference being a video card really...
Even with a free case, a free power supply, no monitor, and no peripherals the best value for dollar build I can put together with what's currently available on the market is between $700 and $800 after shipping and taxes. Add in a case, some fans, a power supply, and whatever else you may need and you're quickly reaching the $1000 mark.
A system with specs that pretty well match a half decade old laptop couldn't more accurately be labeled a budget build in my opinion and I wouldn't call it a gaming rig. -
@CUDA_Cores Can I have $500?

This thread makes me so happy that I bought a gtx1070 a year ago instead of waiting. $400 vs $900. At that time, you could actually play games (at high quality) for $1000.
