  1. Settle in folks, this is a long one but I hope you can help me. I have been having a few issues with my Ryzen build. I built the machine about a year ago and its been solid with the odd BSOD but nothing major. In the past month these have started to get more frequent, especially since a windows update. I cannot remember the exact one. Nearly all the BSOD are for different reasons. The pc spec. Motherboard: MSI MPG Gaming Plus X570 RAM: 32GB HyperX 3200 (XMP) HD: Samsung QVO 1TB (x2) GFX: Asus ROG 2060 Cooler: Corsair AIO When I initially started experiencing issues, I rolled back the update but the BSODs were still as frequent. I even tried to go back to a far older restore point but there was no change. So, I went all in and did a feature update I had been putting off, still no change. I then put it down to the aging SSD so I purchased a new one, well two and decided to retire my old HDDs and go full SSD. I installed windows on the new SSD and the BSOD was even worse. Often happening within 2-3 minutes of login. One BSOD mentioned AMDPPM.sys so I made a registry change as mentioned here, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/bsod-amdppmsys/941dd57b-1bde-453d-a9d9-278942ff38b5 and the PC would be stable for a while longer, but I was still getting BSOD. I thought maybe the drive was faulty, so I did another fresh install on the second 1TB SSD I had purchased and had the exact same result. At this stage I figured it was driver related because if I put back in my old SSD, the system was far more stable than on the new SSD. Its worth noting again that nearly all the BSOD were coming up for different reasons, page faults, NTFS.sys, AMDPPM, IRQ problems. Sometimes it just went blank with no Bluescreen and rebooted. I started comparing drivers but could see no difference between the old SSD and the new install. So many posts mentioned RAM as a potential problem, and I was considering adding more so I purchased an additional 16gb (2x8GB) of RAM to go with my original 16GB. Both kits are HyperX and both the same spec. Still no change with the new RAM, BSOD happening quite regularly. I decided to do a memory test and used up a good portion of a day doing it. First kit in slots 1-3 then slots 2-4, memory test passed. I repeated the tests again with XMP off. The New kit in slots 1-3 then in slots 2-4, memory test passed and again I repeated the tests with XMP off. The frustration levels were high after all that testing. Then I decided to test with all slots full. New RAM in slot 1-3 and old in 2-3. Only 4% into the test, it flagged a hardware error. This is one thing that is confusing me. They are identical kits, passed all tests on their own but together I got an error. I think this is unrelated to the BSODs but its really annoying me. At this stage, I’m starting to blame the motherboard. On the topic of motherboards, I have tried 5 different BIOS revisions, but I am on the second from latest release as it has been the most stable for me. I don’t have an option to try a different GFX card as its too costly to buy another one and the CPU does not support GFX. Also, since my county has gone back into Covid lockdown I can’t borrow of any friends now. I am coming up on the warrantee expiry for the mobo and CPU and was wondering if anyone could give me any direction before I just push MSI or AMD for a replacement CPU or MOBO, if they would even honour that.
  2. I went IPS, got two AOC frameless 24inch ones. They are excellent.
  3. I currently have a dual monitor setup of 23inch older monitors, 60Hz. An Iiyama and Dell. The problem I have had is that the bezels are quite large for a dual screen setup and neither support freesync. Plus the Dell monitor has a very poor refresh rate with some artefacts burnt into the screen. I am looking at two monitors to replace them, on a budget. I have narrowed my selection down to an iiyama 24.5 inch TN monitor with 1ms refresh time 1080p and a Dell 23 inch IPS monitor with 5ms response time 1080p. Both do 75Hz with freesync. I have an RX480 8GB gfx card and I find 1080 to be fine, no really looking at the jump to 1440. The IPS is cheaper at €124 euro and the TN is €141 but that little bit larger. I do a lot of amature photo and video work, which is why I was looking IPS in the first place but is there realistically enough of a different between these two? I play a few games, mainly Starcitizen and the like so visuals can be important. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071JH67KN/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&th=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BZ97BF6/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?th=1 Anyone want to push me in the direction of one or the other or even have an alternative in that price range. Thanks
