  1. It ticked all the right boxes for me but price you pay for motherboard doesn’t change much in performance. Maybe the VRMs are better cooled and that matters in overclocking and maybe it has WiFi built in, or one extra m.2 slot etc. I was going. To buy top of the Maximus line but that one had features designed spesificly for water cooling etc so I decided to buy this.
  2. I don't know about surfaces much as they are not sold in this country and there is no service for them so buying them abroad makes no sense. If they are as good, they should be considered as well since the build quality looks pretty good from videos.
  3. LG Gram is the first thing that comes to my mind. You can also look at HP Spectre 13", the new XPS 13 (this is the king of this segment I think), Yoga 920, Acer Swift 7. All of these laptops probably have a specification that has 16gb ram. Also, none of the 8th gen i7 cpus would lag with those open, but I can't vouch for i5s. I've heard that LG Gram has good battery life. I would also suggest ThinkPad x1 Carbon but I don't think they've been updated to 8th gen cpus. If you were thinking about 13" MBP, I would say don't since a refresh will happen in a few months time.
  4. Are those panels IPS? I got PG248Q which is 144hz TN and I didn't want to watch anything on it. I bought a cheap IPS panel that had good reviews for a second monitor. Beware though, for some weird reason videos on my second screen stutter when I'm launching a game. I read somewhere that it was related to one being 144hz and the other 60, but I'm still not so sure about it.
  5. If you can, go for the 1080. I bought the G1 gaming 1080 a few months ago and my experience has been weird. I haven't used any other brand GPUs so this may be the usual experience. First the aorus(?) software failed on me, the lights on the GPU wouldn't change. After much research I found another application to change colors and fan curves etc for Gigabyte cards and whenever I try to open that my PC just lags like it is going to crash. This is persistent and frankly I don't care because I rarely open that thing anyways. Another weird thing is that the card has fan stop like many other cards but when the PC is idling or is under very light load the fans on the GPU make really weird noises. They stop and they start running again and they make a noise like the fan is hitting a small cable. This is very annoying and I changed the fan curve as well as case fans to help keep the GPU more stable. Another thing is that I heard what apparently was coil whine (I got my answer here) while playing rise of nations but I've tried to max the GPU in The Division, BF1 and a few other games and I've never heard of it. Also I am using a 1080p panel and I get that sweet sweet 144fps in most of the games at the highest settings so I am pleased. I hope you enjoy your card and you two have a good time together.
  6. I feel like 15 inchers are a bit too big for me to carry in a bag with me and use outside. I will mostly carry this laptop around and it will only be standing on a desk when it is recharging.
  7. I built a desktop for gaming a few months ago so I will not be doing any gaming on this laptop. It is solely for productivity and watching movies and taking notes etc
  8. in US dollars, I forgot to specify I am looking for a productivity laptop. Also I've read so many bad things about the XPS that I am steering away from it now. I knew about the 9360 one having serious coil whine issues but haven't seen anything about the new one. Also, I read that quite a few of those got battery issues, screen flickering etc. I know that these are possible on many laptops but so far I've never had them. I guess that is one of the reasons why I considered MacBook Pro. I am still as confused as ever, if not more lol. Thanks for the replies.
  9. Hello, I've had my fair share of clunky laptops and I don't want to go down that route again. I've built a desktop and now I need a laptop that is actually carriable. I plan on spending something around $1700 and I want something that is around 13". So far, I've shortlisted the MacBook Pro with touch bar, the XPS 13 (new/old), Asus Zenbook Deluxe and some other similar Asus models. However, I cannot decide between these. I probably won't go for the 4K XPS because that makes it a bit too expensive I think and I've heard about Lenovo Ideapad 720S but I can't find much about it. Thank you in advance.
  10. It is not only in loading screen or anything, it is always there. Also as I said, when I was running The Division or Rainbow 6 Siege or BF4, there wasn't any noise coming from it. I looked before buying it and people said that some of the units were likely to have coil whine but I've never heard it coming from my card. But turning on Vsync stopped it. Thank you guys, I appreciate it. What surprised me was that I never experienced this before. Live and learn I guess. Thank you all again, have a nice day!
  11. Hello everyone. I built my first PC not too long ago and everything has been fine until now. When I run Rise of Nations: Extended Edition from Steam, a weird whining-like noise starts but it is not there when I start something else, even a demanding game. I tried moving the game from the HDD to the 850 EVO SSD but the sound is still there when I launch it. Sound stops when I alt tab or just click somewhere else, but it starts when I click or alt tab to game. My first guess was that it was the HDD, but there isn't any noise when I start another game in it. Also there wasn't any usage shown for HDD on the task manager. If it was the GPU, it would've made noise when I was running other games (I think), and it clearly is not a fan. I am really lost here because I can't make sense of this and it drives me nuts every time I try to play RoN. I am currently re-downloading the game, I will update with the results. Here is the voice recording that I did for the whine (Sorry for bad quality, clacks are when I alt+tab, clicks are when I click on the game.). My specs are: i7-7700k (Stock) Asus Maximus IX mobo Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1080 256 GB 960 PRO M.2 NVMe 500 GB 850 EVO 1 TB WD Caviar Blue (game is on here) CM V750 modular PSU 2x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM @3200mhz Noctua NH-U14S (I also attached the recording here in case someone has trouble with the other one.) Thanks in advance. Whine.m4a
