  1. Thanks, and no worries. I'd say it's AMD that's trying to confuse us all!
  2. What's the advantage of X570 over B550? They seem so similar to me that I've never quite worked out which makes more sense
  3. I think I'd probably run it in RAID 1. I currently have an external drive that is backed up to, and use Prime Photos unlimited backup as a cloud solution. I only really care about backing up photos, as any music and the such can easily be re-downloaded
  4. Thanks, some good points there 1. Good shout on the SSD. I thought that might be an area of excess, and could always go there later if PCIe 4.0 became realistically useful. 3. The NH-D15 route probably wouldn't use this case, but rather something like a Fractal Define, so I wouldn't see it at all. 4 Haha, cases are so subjective
  5. Thanks for the suggestion. I think that a 4 TB SSD would probably be over budget, as I'm only planning on using it for photos, videos and music (all programs and games would be on SSD), and I'd want to have a second hard drive for backup. I think that's the one I've got my eye on, lets hope they do drop soon! Glad I still have a GTX 970, which happens to be worth more now that when I bought it used a few years ago...
  6. I am planning an upgrade/major refresh of my PC which has done well for 10 years, and would like this PC to last, as I am not sure when I will next have the funds to upgrade (I accept future proofing is impossible, but would like it to get a good life out of it). I have had a look at parts and want some second opinions on any areas where I may be spending too much. Currently running AMD Phenom ii X6 1090T, 8 GB DDR3 Domminator GT, Crosshair IV Formula, GTX 970, 1TB Samsung SSD, 2x 1TB WD Black HDDs I am planning to use the GPU and SSD from the previous build, but the rest of it will be repurposed into a PC for my wife with my old 6970 gpu. At some point I plan to buy a GPU but who knows when that some point will be. Budget (including currency): I'm trying to stick under £1,600 overall (UK), but I have room to move depending on performance, so it's more of a soft budget. The budget does not include a GPU as I'm using the old one for the time being. I'm really just looking for opinions from people of areas where I could trim the fat off, or where my budget looks disproportionate. Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Predominantly gaming (looking to run Flight Sim and other new titles, possibly 4k in the future or maybe VR with a new GPU). I also do photo editing and possibly some music production. It also runs discord on a second screen while playing games such as rocket league, overwatch and other multiplayer games (hence thinking of a slightly more powerful CPU for the extra headroom). Other details: I currently play games at 1440p, and have this weird situation where I need to play a round of overwatch for it to warm up (it will start the round at maybe 8-20 fps, and by the end of it we'll be getting a good 35-50 fps, which I have become used to). I would like to potentially go 4k or VR in the future, but am also thinking of possibly going for a 144Hz 1440p route. I don't need any additional peripherals as I will be plugging it into my existing setup, and I will get a Windows license separate to the budget. Also of note is that I currently have a Corsair keyboard and light strips to the back of the monitor, so would like ideally to use things compatible with iCue to avoid installing multiple RGB programs Here are the current components: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X could go for the Ryzen 5, but thinking the extra power might be useful for running discord on the side and Lightroom panorama merges and batch processing Asus ROG STRIX B550-A Gaming (white) currently thinking of possibly going down a white build road, and this would be the only real option. Maybe there is a better option that isn't white? Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Dual Channel (white) as far as I understand 3200MHz is a good speed for Ryzen without spending excessive amounts. I'd like to go 32GB for things like Lightroom, Photoshop, Flight Simulator and have the option to upgrade to 64GB in the future if needed for an easy upgrade path. Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD I know this one might be a bit overkill, but it didn't seem too much more than a PCIe 3.0 Samsung SSD. The plan would be to use this for OS and programs (not games), then use the SATA 3 2.5" SSD from my current PC for games. Seagate 4TB Barracuda 5400RPM HDD x2 for storing photographs and music etc on. My current photo folder is 600GB+ and is only growing. 4TB seemed to be the sweet spot for price per GB. The reason for two of them is to have a backup on one of them (I do have an external drive and use Prime photo back-up as well) Seasonic Focus PX-850 850W 80+ Platinum Modular PSU I've heard Linus recommend Seasonic since building my original PC and like the long warranty they have. I'm not sure how much difference the 80+ ratings actually have on the PSU. I am planning (at some point) to add a 3080 to the rig (not included in this budget as I'll have time to save before that) so I wanted to make sure it would be a PSU that could handle the power, but could go for less if it is overkill. Corsair Hydro Series iCUE H150i Elite RGB White honestly I picked this because it's white and the case I was looking at supports a 360 radiator. I am also considering just going for the NH-d15 and not using the below case, just going for a quiet build instead, but for now I'm looking at a white RGB build. Lian-Li PC-011 Dynamic Midi-Tower - Black Window I have not yet decided between the white and black, but they're the same price so it shouldn't make a difference for this. This is pretty much the only case I like having looked at a lot of cases for a show off type case with a window. Fans for things like fans and extra RGB lights etc I'm not including these in the budget, they're more the kind of thing I'll pick up along the way as and when, or Christmas etc
  7. Currently using a 6970, so would be great to finally upgrade, and stay on team RED!
  8. This looks awesome to be able to throw up a screen anywhere at any time!
  9. I agree with skydiver. I'm running on air cooling, as you can get great air coolers for less than the price of watercooling. Also if you want to game, and don't own a graphics card I'd say that should be your number one priority. Save the money you would need to buy a new case and watercooling. Without knowing what you want from the machine, or the specs of the rest of the system, that's all I can say
  10. Who needs a console, when I could have this in my living room!
  11. I would use it for gaming on my laptop, and I like the idea of a plug and play mouse designed for gaming
  12. I would say that yes, if it is not your main language
  13. Hi, I am doing a group project as a part of my degree into creating a brand orientated around music in a foreign language. As a part of this we are required to do market research so it would be really great if you could take the time to do the short survey, easily under a minute. Here is the link: http://monkeystig.polldaddy.com/s/foreign-language-music Many Thanks
