I think I kind of see how they're approaching this, since they tax their own media, including digital media, global media is much more appealing. This is part of the reason why they have separate jp releases of common albums. Still sucks for them. 

I'd rather have you openly communicate the costs of operating the forum and raise the money for it once a year ...
 
This premium memberships that only grant access to those contributing IMHO destroy the forum.

That's why we need kitchens to cook in.

Also, If there are going to be "VIP" subforums, at least make them view able to all registered members, such as SevenForums:

But don't let forum members not be able to see the actual sub-forum, that would be a dumb decision in my opinion.

Personally I don't think a subscription based funding source is necessarily a bad thing, as long as mods/admins realize it may not be a possibility to some people. 
I personally don't want to see this go the way of "pay to win"( to parallel a common trend in games), as long as it is aesthetic, like a badge, then I am not really bothered by this, similar to Valves implementation of hats in TF2.
 
Regarding my other suggestion, which @Giggitygoebbels has seemed to mention: my original suggestion may have not been in the best phrasing possible, resulting in some members rejecting the idea with a passion (although it seems as if mob mentality is alright on this forum, per reasons that Giggitygoebbels has stated in his post already.) I like the idea of everyone being able to read the subforum, but only qualified members being allowed to post in that particular forum.
 
Although at his point, the aforementioned is really a digression of what this thread is really about, so i think we should just lay that suggestion/idea to rest.

It is a premium membership period.You gain more features of the forum.If it is just the badge it is alright.It is pretty ironic that you all think that @ionbasa 's idea of the additional section for experienced users as "elitist" while this is fine,just because it is said by Linus or something.
If that is elitist and cannot be implemented,I do not see how this is any better.
