  1. What I would do is get one of these http://www.amazon.com/Speaker-Selector-Switch-Switcher-Splitter/dp/B0043JBLC0 You can have a regular 5.1 setup indoor with the front speakers being split off to the exteriors ones with the splitter. Or you can get one of these http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V679BL-7-2-Channel-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B00VIRG3GO/ref=sr_1_1?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1439474577&sr=1-1&keywords=yamaha+rx+RX-V679 They cost more with the zone 2 as opposed to what I mentioned above.
  2. Have you added any new hardware/software recently?
  3. Modem to switch to rest of your stuff. The modem can still then port forward and block people off the internet as you put it.
  4. I work in a small-mid-size company in their IT department. What we are trying to do is upgrade about 30-40(order entry) user out of our 250+ user to utilize 10gb speed. We currently have cat 5e cable to each station. All running 1Gbps Our current 4x48 port switches are cable of handling 10gbe speeds. My question is what exactly would we need to upgrade all of these stations and what will be need to be done and purchased. Some of my initial thoughts was to run a new cat 6a cable to each work station but I was wondering if its beneficial to run just one cat 6 cable to that location and purchase a 10port 10gbe unmanaged switch and split it off from there to each work station. Would need to buy 5 switches since its for 5 departments which vary from 3-8 user each. Yes, I know the less things between the main switch to work station the better but seeing as it'll be about 30-40 runs it will be very time consuming(coming in on Saturdays would also be involved). We are trying to have this up and running by end of April. Please let me know your thoughts.
  5. I am looking for a monitor that is ultra wide screen format. I was thinking about getting 3 monitors but seeing as it will take up to much desk space I opted out of the option. Next best thing would be an ultrawide monitor. Any suggestions. price range of $300-$700 will shell out more monies if necessary. Thanks again
  6. At home I can get write speeds from my server to PC(vice Versa) at around 80-90MB/s using a gigabit switch to connect both with CAT5e cables. Server is a QNAP ts 251 with two 4tb 7200rpm in raid 1.My pc specs are not great either.
  7. I'm assuming your NAS can not run plex? I would check to see if it can. If not I would recommend the Intel NUC just because again I am assuming your gaming rig is running a windows os. Will probably be an easier transition.
  8. Currently an avid android fan but I recently started reading on how much customizing you can do with a Jail broken iPhone that Its very tempting to switch over. As it stand right now the jail breaking for ios 8.1.3 has been fixed so I'll have to wait until another jail break comes.
  9. Great choice. I am also thinking about purchasing a nexus player since I do like the functionality(physical remote) that the chromecast does not have. A Qnap nas is very powerful. Its very user friendly but still if you want can expand on its usage. Make sure to set up the cloud for your qnap I use it frequently when I want to access my NAS from anywhere.
  10. Yes that's the plan. Forgot to mention that. Fail on my point. Things that I want to know is should I buy managed switch or not.Things of that nature.
  11. Today for no particular reason I decided to open one of our rj11 wall plates to see what type of wiring was ran when this house was constructed back in 2008. To my great delight I saw that the on cabled wired into had the writing of cat 5e among other things written on it. I also saw from a slight visual inspection that they had 4pairs twisted wires but only two pairs were being used for the phone. I plan to do a more complete visual inspection of other rj11 wall plates before I continue. With that said I need a game plan into how I can go about upgrading all the jacks to cat 5e. I also need to confirm that all wire are going to the same electrical closer in the basement. Let us assume that they are because it makes sense. Here comes the exciting part of this entire discovery. What should I do next.....lots of ideas are flowing in my head as to how to go about doing this task but I wanted some suggestions. Thanks
  12. I am assuming your wife will have access to a pc or laptop that can use the google chrome browser which in turn you can then cast it from there by launching plex through the browser. It should also appear with same icon your phone will have. How the chromecast works is that it intially first is launched by the app. The app that launched the media can then be shut off completely and the media will continue to play. In essence the app creates the handshake between plex server and goole chromecast dongle which comminucates directly to the server not to your device after.
  13. If all three things connected to the same network (plex media server,Chromecast, and the device you're running plex app) it should all work seamlessly. On the app it will show an icon in upper right hand corner. The app should also automatically pick up the NAS/plex server if on the same network. Getting plex to point to the correct location in the NAS where the media is being stored is just as easy as pointing it to the correct path on your network. EX: \\nasstorage\media\movies\
  14. I have a qnap ts251 set up with plex media server. It works amazing streaming to chromecast and through dlna with my smart tvs that are connected through out the network. I attempted to use my ts251 as a direct connection to my projector but it was not as fast as using chromecast with plex app.
  15. Thanks for replies. I will look into @RogueCow suggestions. Thanks again
