  1. Thank you for the replies, ill take a look at the thinkpad series. My excel sheets are rather small (think 400-500 lines by 20 ish columns at most) so I'd say a dual core should still be sufficient.
  2. Oh sorry I forgot to mention that! Not really a fixed number; would like to keep it under the 1300€ mark unless the added value is worth it.
  3. Hello everyone, I am looking to buy a laptop to help me get work done on the road. I seem to have some hard to come by demands unfortunately. The things I will definitely not budge on are: Battery life of at least 6 hours in movie watching on medium brightness (say 150-180 nits) Screen has to be an ips panel with 1080p res ( no 4k to save on battery life), MATTE finish, i abhor screen glare Build quality: I will be on the move constantly with this machine and I expect it to last me about three years minmum. No low end wifi solution; The machine will be used in old buildings with a large amount of concrete, which deteriorates the quality of the signal 8 Gigs of RAM What I will be doing on the machine: Presentations in LateX and Powerpoint Number crunching in Excel More serious tasks will be done through a VPN connections This leads me to believe i will not NEED a dedicated graphics card, but I do however want to get at least a mobile Ix-xxxx processor instead of the m-series. I will be multitasking a lot. Personally the only contenders i had found were the Dell XPS 13 (8 gig, i5 6200U) and the asus zenbook ux303ua/ub (without or with dedicated graphics). I was however unsure of the build quality and warrenty with the Asus models; the ux303 line seems to have had tons of hinge issues which worries me. Does anyone have another possible fit? Thanks
  4. The Autore keyboard looks super sexy, 8/8 would r8 gr8.
  5. Would something basic like this http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/380022/logilink-usb-soundcard.html thing do the trick for my microphone? All i need really is to make the static noise disappear.
  6. I cant use my mic input on the mobo due the static noise it suffers from; so at the very least i think i need a cheapo usb soundcard. I was just wondering if there are any decent dac's that accept mic inputs (maybe add some gain on the mics?)
  7. Hello people of the LTT forum, last year with the help of this forum i bought my first real pair of headphones, the Sennheiser HD598. Overall I am very happy with how they perform. I recently however upgraded my pc including motherboard (to a z97-a asus board). Unfortunately i can audibly hear static noise when the headset is plugged into the motherboard (be it via back of mobo or front of the case). The static noise is also audible on other peoples end when talking through my clip-on mic (Philips LFH 9173). Ive read online one thing to solve the mic issue would be to get a usb soundcard and just use it for the mic. I also notice my headphones are a lot more silent than before and they are quite silent on my laptop aswell. Would it be worth to buy a DAC/AMP like the fiio-e10 or the O2/odac (or alternatives?)? I likely wont be upgrading my headphones until they break which isnt very likely. Maximum budget would be 300ish euro. Also, are there any decent dac's that accept a mic input? Only ones ive found were the likes of creative and GAMING gear which I would like to steer clear or mostly (should I, or are these decent?). Alternatively, should i just stick to a cheap usb sound card / expensive usb soundcard? Thanks anyway!
  8. After looking more into this issue i found it happened a lot with the z87-a aswell and apparantly it is related tothe power supply: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?38894-asus-z87-a-cold-boot-hangs-red-cpu-light/page6 . I am using an earthwatts 650 atm, and i believe it was certified for haswell. Dont suppose i could test this without buying a different power supply?
  9. Sorry about that! I have now ran prime95 for four hours and the max cpu temperature is 60 °C. At the same time ive ran furmark to fully stress my system (prime95 has run blend and small fft's). Is it safe to assume none of my hardware is faulty and its probably just a combination error? Is there anything unhealthy about having to reset your system twice to three times for a first time boot of the day?
  10. they are in ram slot 2 and 4 as stated in the manual 1-8 (dimm a2 and b2), Have they changed this?
  11. Hi, i upgraded to a z97-a + i5 4690k and use a scythe mugen max cooler. I used to get a boot error about the ram (the ram LED was bright red indicating ram issue) but the mem-ok! button fixed this issue. However, when the pc has been turned off for an extensive period of time (say 8+ hrs) it sometimes doesnt boot and the cpu led is bright red.and there is no post. If i reset a couple of times it sometimes boots anyway. I have not overclocked on this system and ive disabled all overclocking in the bios. The temperatures after 5 hrs of battlefield hardline were fine (44°C) and the clockspeed is at its max turbo speed so I dont think the cpu is faulty? Any thoughts on what could cause this issue (which is not always there)?
  12. I installed some of the non-essential windows updates, and after restarting three times i've yet to see this problem reoccur, so I think its fixed. Thanks for the help but I think it was maybe an issue with the newest driver on a not yet fully updated windows.
  13. im not sure what you mean? I tried to install the VGA drivers from http://www.asus.com/support/Download/1/45/6/1/ic9YbXVua78KEzSH/30/but it doenst let me install them because i dont meed the requirements. Just ran a furmark benchmark test and got a 4000 score on the 720p preset, which is normal for my graphics card. Really no clue whats going on here.
  14. Hi, i just upgraded my mobo and cpu to a i5 4690k and z97-a asus mobo. I have updated all drivers and the onboard graphics card is disabled. However, i have terrible performance graphics wise, in game i get like 10 fps in bf4 and 40 in csgo... The card was in working condition earlier in the morning. I am at a loss here, can someone with more knowledge please help me? EDIT:im on windows 7 and run a fresh install, its a amd radeon r9 270x
  15. I have a set of these, very good headphones: comfortable to wear and amazing to listen to. I dont have any experience with superlux headphones though, so cant say if they are better for their price. I paid 170€ for mine and dont regret a thing!
