    The RTX Gaming Laptop Guide
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Other Guides:  Computer Parts | Reseller Guide   So this time around I'm dividing by graphics card.  That's because the prices this gen are all over the place and in general don't fit any nice cut off points like under 1500...  Unfortunately for RTX you'll be paying more than that.  Note that until I reach the portables section these laptops are more focused on performance and non max q components.   Categories: RTX 2060 Machines RTX 2070 Machines RTX 2080 Machine No Limit Portables   IMPORTANT: Links are to view the product.  It doesn't mean that's where you should buy from.   BE CAREFUL TO AVOID 1x16GB ram stick.  You'll take a significant performance hit this gen with single channel RAM.   BASE PRICE: Generally what I'd consider a starting config price range.  Should be about 16GB of ram and either an ssd + hdd or larger sized ssd.  I try and make it a "base" useful config.  A config with 8GB of ram for gaming is fairly useless.     Owner's lounges (where actual owners of the models discuss their machines) will be linked, though not everything has an owners lounge.     ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   RTX 2060 Machines:   This is where stuff starts getting good.  Now we have some serious gaming horsepower coming into the mix, with the RTX 2060 present in all recommendations.  Anything less is not a smart use of money for a gaming machine in this price range.  Quality also increases here.   Sager NP8961/Clevo P960ED (17" version here)  - One of the new 16.1" models this machine has a similar footprint to 15" laptops with larger bezels.  Overall a thinner unit but also competitively priced.  Cooling not yet known.   Base Price: $1470 CPU: i7 8750H                |                GPU: RTX 2060MP Ram Slots: 2                |               Storage Slots: 2 M.2 (1 SATA/PCIE, 1PCIE) || 1 2.5" SATA Display: 16.1" 144Hz WVA FHD               |               Battery: 51WHR       Ports: 1 HDMI 2.0 || 1 mDP 1.2 || 2 USB Type C (1 DP capable) || 2 USB 3.0 || Ethernet || headphone jack || mic jack Dimensions: 14.96” (w) x 9.92” (d) x 0.78” (h)  Other: 180W adapter || 4.6 pounds barebones || RGB keyboard (zone lit) || fingerprint sensor in the touchpad || 6 in 1 card reader   (Owner's lounge here) - Talking about piracy in general, broad details, is acceptable however the posting or discussing pirated/hacked/cracked or otherwise nefariously obtained content is not. This includes Windows content, games, hackintosh, etc. Also discussions regarding ways to avoid or block legitimately installed monitoring/tracking software or the like is also not allowed. hm.... sorry i failed to read it. but i will stay away from this topic. I do apologies. so get a A legal based mac on a windows most likely a linix OS?

Don't give apple a call. First find someone with 2 days left on there HP warranty. Then say you have this problem on the HP, argue all day till they hang up on you. become pissed then call apple and be happy.

Macbook is actually a VERY good laptop. The problem comes when going from Apple to another brand. No its not the OS, Its the customer service. There is a level of customer service you got used to while at apple and you wish to have it when you switch brands. Here is the shocker. No other brands does customer service like Apple.

I would strongly suggest to stay out of HP, In 2010 I was on the phone with hp customer service for the entire morning before they just hung up. They didn't want to honor my warranty because it had 2 days left.

Razer I would suggest the same thing.

MSI I hear mixed reviews, my friends say stay away from it, others say its good

Asus will have the same horrible customer service as HP or Razer

IF you can do extra 3 pound I would suggest getting a Alienware. (yes again a Alienware)

    $CAD             = 2,738.99
    +HST of 13% = 3,095.0587
With tax you are over $100 you could decrease ram to 16gb to get it within $3000 Canadian OR ask for a discount
    + $8 for thermal paste
+1$ for Ontario laptop delivery charge

    + http://www.dell.com/en-ca/learn/advantage you get 5% back so 2,738.998*0.05 = $136.9495

I would use it to buy another power adapter and leave it at your boyfriends house. (power adapter has weight and takes up space)

Future Proof: later get the External GPU IF you need it. + the PCIe ssd

Advice: make your BF do all the fixing lol /whip OR better yet do it yourself you learn a lot from it.

Ask to have Kaby lake instead of skylake.
    http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/alienware-kaby-lake

it weights 8lb but the laptop is built like a tank, Customer Service Dell got ranked #2, its the closest you will get to Apple. AND if by chance some water gets in within the first year (Canadian winter and stupid sping and fall rain) you will have the warranty to cover it.

with 1080p panel you can play anything with the GTX 1070 at the highest setting.

IF its CAD$ 3000 without tax you might want to upgrade the storage to 256GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)

you will be above CAD$38 thus lower ram to 16gb?

Razer is not like a Apple Product. A Apple product though overpriced has something that razer does not, the OSX. IF razer released RazerOS no one will buy it because most likely they cheapened out and asked bought the cheapest OS they could find. Example the North Korean OS.

Razer tries to be Apple of the gaming industry but they failed to realize  that something of something, isn't really the anything of anything.

    1) its a i7-6700HQ not a i7-7820
    2) its a GTX1060 not a GTX 1070
    3) its 12gb of ram not 32gb of ram
    4) your price range was $USD 1,100 not 1,200 with lower specs. you stated same specs 1/2 price.

Try again. same spec for 1/2 the price. (this is sooo fun, watching him overstate it.) + shipping and handing fee to canada. (not the US)

good find though, Alienware is $250 more with the same specs. not double. So back you go search me that deal that is as good but its not half the price of a Alienware.
(increased that to have RAM: 16GB (8GB x2) DDR4 2133MHz vs Alienwares 16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (2x8GB) you can see where the money went, one is plastic other is mostly steel.but lets scrap that. you did find a good laptop that is $250 less than the alienware good job. BUT it isn't what you promised us so please keep looking.

I will stop because it is not helping the thread. To your credit you did find something that is good. IS there a HK variant with a 1070? if its a $250 difference between Alienware and MSI. Then she could use that $250 for something else.

I hate looking up MSI laptops. Its confusing as hell and you can't find what you want.

Not saying they are bad, its just hard to find what you are looking for.

For $USD you can get some really well suited computers. Alienware comes with the 512gb PCIe + hk

Think you can get more than 4 years with this machine. with the Amplifier + normal settings..... ooooh know what they should do

you see Alienware has a thunderbolt port at the back... So... SLI External GPU? lol

Mind you, like Pendragon said... it requires you to put some work into it.

BUT I say get it and learn. Its a nice place to start learning. There are reviews and guides how to do it.

About the Alienware 15 and 17 I think they fixed some of the issues but not all.

The UHD had a problem but they are addressing it. They stopped using toothpaste but I the thing they provide is not the best so you 10/10 times you will have to open it up and repaste (if you want to overclock) + since you travel Dell has international warranty. I would go 4 years hardware and 4 years accidental (because you have to open the it up) + only other reason to get a Alienware is there external GPU, you leave it at home with a lets say desktop Nvidia GTX 1080ti and 1070 for the road and you got a good mix of performance.

I would not go with Razer even though Linus loves it.

Apple Macbook Pro over Razer for work. Why? Operating system.
Razer vs Alienware or dell or Acer: go with non razer better cooling (for Alienware after repast) for travel I would suggest alienware because of that accidental warranty, gives you the confidence to open up the laptop.

Trust me I was in the same spot as you. It was CPU and RAM VS GPU and customer service

I opted for GPU and customer service because of my experience with HP. Most games are GPU dependent not CPU. As for ram there is so much you can watch  lol.
