  1. thank you for your helpe veryone way better than what i came up with lol. Talked to him he stated he wanted a 1700 if he just had a little more time and didn't have his laptop burning up every other hour lol. Was worried about the parts not fitting lol. Thank you Fardin for your help hopefully the new generation woun't go after you.
  2. oooh cool but then there is another problem.... windows 10 lol that +100 USD I can ask him to check for student discount
  3. his computer shut off while he was doing school work. lost a 5 page essay lol. thank you for the build I added a CPU cooler just in case. CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MhCqjc
  4. I dont think he will mind waiting that is my laptop suggestion lol.... though the upgradeability is lacking. with some hard revision I came up with this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7rN9kT
  5. Hello I am helping a friend build a PC. He does not care if its a laptop or desktop as long as its cool. The though I came up with was that it had to be future proof. So at the very least be able to play at 1080p. Budget: 1200 (plus minus 50) I took the outline from Paul's Hardware as a starting point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdFJf2Og0Ck&t=128s https://pcpartpicker.com/user/paulshardware/saved/Gtbf7P?ref=paul Changes: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6gfR7h Video Card: I tend not to trust zotac so I switched out that for a MSI https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fKp323/msi-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-video-card-gtx-1070-gaming-x-8g I would have went with EVGA https://pcpartpicker.com/product/ph38TW/evga-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-sc-gaming-video-card-08g-p4-5173-kr but I remember them having some fire trouble around this time and I was not sure which GPU was effected by it so I stayed away from them. But i would have preferred to go with EVGA Case: because its cheaper and I though it looks better. CPU cooling: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FcfmP6/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu9s Problem with this it that it wont fit the case. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now after all that a huge problem because apparent. I did not have anything left over for Monitor mouse and keyboard. So now I need some serious help. This is for the United States of America. I would need a help on a build guide that contains the following. 1: A monitor (1080p 24inch preferred) 2: keyboard + mouse 3: IF the 1070 from EVGA isn't part of the ones with the fire problems EVGA if not MSI https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fKp323/msi-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-video-card-gtx-1070-gaming-x-8g 4: has to have windows 10 budget $USD 1200
  6. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-17r4-15r3-disassembly-repaste-guide-results.797373/ hope it helps.
  7. I bought a Alienware 17 R4 BUT you have to go for the bare minimum specs. If you want a 1080 go for the 7820hk with GTX 1080 + Window Pro upgrade (if you want) + warranty upgrade (if you want) You would be better of outsourcing the rest of the parts RAM Corsair Vengeance® Series 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz CL18 Memory Kit (CMSX32GX4M2A2666C18) Wireless Intel Wireless-AC 8265 NGFF Dual Band 802.11ac 867Mbps WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Card Hard Drive Samsung 960 EVO EVO M.2 1TB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V6E1T0BW Samsung 960 EVO EVO M.2 1TB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V6E1T0BW Samsung 850 EVO 2TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E2T0B/AM) Paste (Conductive) Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Thermal Grease Paste - 5.0 Gram or Non-Conductive)Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease Paste - 11.1 Grams Electric Tape Scotch Professional Grade Vinyl Electrical Tape Super 33+, 3/4 in x 66 ft (19 mm x 20,1 m), 7 mil, 1 Roll Thermal Pad Fujipoly 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/review-by-iunlock-alienware-17r4-vs-msi-gt73vr-unrated-version.801192/ As well as if you are going kaby Lake http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-alienware-17-r4-owners-lounge.797457/page-469 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think they fixed the Graphics card.
  8. I would suggest a Alienware 17 r4 for "most expensive" option. get base then upgrade everything. http://www.dell.com/ca/p/alienware-17-laptop/pd?oc=na174_fkbl_h14e&model_id=alienware-17-laptop Alienware 17 R4 Alienware 17 R4 Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bit English Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5X Processor 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7820HK (Quad-Core, 8MB Cache, Overclocking up to 4.4GHz ) Microsoft Application Software Microsoft Office 30 Day Trial Security Software Upgrade to 3-Year Subscription for $49.99 Limited Time Offer No Anti-virus Requested LCD Alienware 17.3” QHD (2560x1440) 120Hz TN AG 400-nits w/ NVIDIA G-SYNC and Tobii Eye-tracking Memory 16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (2x8GB) Hard Drive 512GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage) Wireless Killer 1435 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 Primary Battery Lithium Ion (99 Wh) Battery AC Adapter Alienware 330W AC Adapter Cable US Power Cord Keyboard English Keyboard Operating System Recovery Options No OS Recovery Disc Included FGA Module No FGA Systems Management Kaby Lake Driver Placemat Placemat (English,French,BRPT,Spanish) Packaging Alienware 17 R3 Shipping Material Non-Microsoft Application Software Additional Software Driver N1435 & N1535 Wireless Driver Documentation/Disks Safety/Environment and Regulatory Guide (English/French) Retail Software Dell.com Order Packing Label Dell.com Order Service 4 Years Premium Support Accidental Damage Service 4 Years Accidental Damage Service Processor Label Intel® Core™ i7 Label ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What you need to get RAM Corsair Vengeance® Series 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz CL18 Memory Kit (CMSX32GX4M2A2666C18) Wireless Intel Wireless-AC 8265 NGFF Dual Band 802.11ac 867Mbps WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Card Hard Drive Samsung 960 PRO 2TB Samsung 960 PRO 2TB Samsung 850 EVO 4TB External GPU Alienware External GPU GPU 1080ti (some people water cooled this so its kind of sick) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- + Pay someone to fix it up and you are good. #SLIDoesntWorkOnAllGames If you are going all out.... 9. Go a Second hand macbook. I would think its way better than what you suggested due to the OS. but if you are a windows user you might want stay clear of this.
  10. for $9000 you can get 2 titanX = $3000 $6000 left 1 2tb Samsung NVMe PCie SSD pro = $2000 $4000 left 1300 for monitor 2700 2700 left for RAM, motherboard, CPU and power brick + case. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- somehow that still isnt enough......... need more overkill.... right?
  11. i think he is asking if he should wait for the 7820hk refresh or go with he 6820hk? If it was pure performance then how much of a difference will it make.
  12. 1) Alienware isn't a awesome laptop, its a broken laptop 2) IT can be awesome ask Pendragon I was PMing him about if there is anyone in Toronto that can do the fixes.... IF not i will have to do it AAAAAAAAAAAAH .... it could be fun.... I went as far to be like YOU WILL DO IT FOR ME OR ELSE.... i will make you watch Pew de pies videos lol. 3) When you pay for a Alienware, try to go for the lowest spec possible. Only thing you should look at is CPU and GPU and maybe display if you are lazy. Everything else is overpriced. PCIe SSD Samsung is better and its most likely only $25 difference for the equivalent spec. RAM Corsair only a few $$ more and in some cases less for similar or better spec. Thermal paste.............. DO I REALLY have to explain this one lol. Wifi Card Intel Wireless-AC 8265 NGFF Dual Band 802.11ac 867Mbps WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Card Even the External GPU isn't done properly. you have to mod that if you want to put in lets say a water cooled Titan X Pascal from EKWB, (I am really hoping for EVGA but not it looks like it wont happen) External GPU by Alienware is too.... short in high and cant take some cards. so you might have to mod it by cutting out some portions of it. So why GET a Alienware 1) its better than RAZER. like way better 2) its totally sick if you fix it up. 3) external GPU 4) the community, it is huge. you probably can find someone doing something you might need. The good ones to check out Alienware 15 with 7700HQ + GTX 1070 $1,700 USD http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/alienware-15-laptop/dkcwkblf044s Alienware 13 with 7700HQ with GTX 1060 $1,400 USD http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/alienware-13-laptop/dkcwkble3s purely spec i would say these are the good entries. the price difference is like buying a 1070 desktop vs a 1060. I would suggest going for the 1070 (but that is me) Don't worry about it if you aren't going to fix it up. lol we had to point out that the Alienware wasn't perfect with the guy that is in love. lol we shattered his perfect world its like the Emperors new clothes.... The cloth is the alienware and the Emperor is the guy lol.
  13. $150..... if that is USD why not just buy a Mechanical keyboard for that much money and attach it by usb when you are using it.
  14. Ok mind if I ask if you have a Wacom? I would suggest getting a 2013 Macbook Pro and using the difference to get the Wacom Cintiq pro 13. it will help you get into the really fine details while photo editing and a nice setup since it make the Macbook into a touchscreen. Wacom Cintiq pro 13 = 1,000 Macbook Pro 2013 about 400-500 (or less)
  15. I am doing this BUT 2nd hand macbook + http://www.wacom.com/en-hk/products/pen-displays/wacom-cintiq-pro-13 or the 16................. its stupid but surface would be the best option. unless you are a art student stay away from wacom.
