Routing and Remote Access Service, but it's only available on Windows Server editions. What I mean is, you can connect two Wi-Fi routers via Wi-Fi and then use it as a switch:

Yeah, if you can't put an ethernet cable through the wall/ceiling/floor, then your next best thing is powerline... then attach the powerline to a network switch, then attach both the PC and freenas box to the switch, that should give access to all your network devices then.

Most threaded standoff holes are PEM's that are essentially threaded studs that get pressed in at the factory or are friction drilled then tapped to get enough material to thread in the thin sheet metal.

For your situation you would be best to layout the holes you require, drill and get female to female stand offs to bolt in from the bottom side of that PSU cover and then the motherboard from the top.

It's because of the rarity of mini-stx I didn't feel like paying $100 just for a case so, I put it in my main rig.

It needs a laptop power cable. Weirdly, Gigabyte's site doesn't say what size the jack is. I would get a 120W universal charger from Officeworks or something. Don't buy a non-name off ebay, it'll be shit, and likely will kill something.

Snotrap reacted to TheKDub in Can a new CPU damage an SSD?
Not really, no. The CPU used shouldn't affect an SSD at all.

It's possible you got unlucky and something got zapped in a way that killed the drive. Maybe unplug it, let it sit for 30 mins so it can think about what it has done, then try again?

You're best off to do a clean install and a profile migration program. SATA and NVMe are very different ways of talking, so a clean install is always recommended

I've got nothing. Sorry. When I need remote access I use SSH/SFTP or Remote Desktop. I've never used an encrypted tunnel.

If you mean an encrypted tunnel I unfortunately don't have the knowledge to get you started there. I vaguely know of a method or two but that's it. I've never explored it myself.

There are other remote desktop software vendors. Google has one. There's one called AnyDesk. I'm told they operate under the same terms as Teamviewer. Free for personal use. I wonder what Teamviewer deemed as commercial activity from you. I believe there are others but I don't know of them.

You need to confirm all IP Addresses, Subnets, Gateways and DNS servers are configured properly.
Any half decent firewall will automatically allow internal connections with no user input.

I wouldn't do a 2600k over your 3470, it really wouldn't be worth the 90 bucks IMO. Unless there is a way to see how well it will overclock before purchase. IF you can get the 2600 to say 4.4 GHz, it wouldn't be half bad. But, that said, I went from a 3770k @4.2 or 4.4 to a 8700k @5.0, and I shit you not, my battlefield V FPS almost doubled, with a GTX 1070. Obviously that game REALLY likes a lot of CPU, but point is, I don't think a 2600k over your 3470 is worth it. If you can find a newer CPU option, which would require a new motherboard..... it may be worth it. I think for your situation, the i5 isn't holding you back, the GPU is.

If you are using the external IP or domain to access it, then your router will need to have NAT loopback capability. Otherwise you won't be able to hit that external IP.

Snotrap reacted to ChaseB in I need a VPN Expert (OpenVPN)
I want to back up my data offsite. I also want my users to be able to view there data remotely. My windows server is also a remote desktop server. Here is what I want to do.
I want to deploy VPN service in the cloud. Like digital ocean or vultr.  I want the client to connect to the cloud server.   I then want all clients to be able to connect to the server. I also want to be able to connect different server in different locations together so I can set up some offsite backups. I have been at this project for 6 months and I am lost. I have tried PFSence on Vultr. I have tried OpenVPN on Digital Ocean. I have tried Windows VPN. I have tried port forwarding.
I would like to find an IT Exspert. Someone I can talk to. Paid or Not. Someone who might even be able walk me through set up or something. I am losing my freaking mind.
I have been in IT for years and this is my ultimate challenge.

Wanted to chime in and say Dropbox has the luxury of letting you designate a folder to sync which you can setup on as many devices as you want. So anything in that folder will be replicated to dropbox and then to every other device logged into it.

This gives you the advantage of workig off the file locally and quickly, while by the time you get to school it should be done syncin'g and ready to work on.

The best long term solution to this is to use github or similar approach.
My second preference would be Dropbox (or Seafile for self-hosted)
VPN will work, though network shares over VPN can be quite slow; if your project is large it may be an issue. Also when VPN drops and you try to save a file at the same time you may run into some unpleasant situations.

Install the free OpenVPN or SoftEther on a machine/VM at home or anywhere else that you want to run a VPN on. I use softether all the time for remote access.

You live in Australia, any warranty service would need to be shipped abroad to the US for CougarGaming to fix it, likely on the slowest boat possible to save money.
Try to get a refund if you can.

Unfortunately 6 weeks is to be expected when sending an item off for repair. When they initially quoted you 2-4 weeks they were likely lying out of their ass so you wouldn't request a refund instead.

Send an email to the store you bought it from, tell them that the resolution they have provided for your faulty product is unsatisfactory and provide the timeline that you listed above and state that they have continuously failed to provide a resolution or communicate properly with you regarding the matter. Request a refund of the purchase cost of the unit.
