  1. I mean, it's literally double the price, like 400 vs 800... Oh, I'm aware the difference won't be very much noticeable, but... If I pay for a part and I can't get it to work as expected, I'm sure it's not entirely unreasonnable to feel concerned, right? If there is nothing to do however, well, best just get a refund and either grab a potentially more compatible 3600 kit ( though probably even more expensive ) or turn my gaze to 3200... Wouldn't all of that be taken into account when advertising the kit though ? I saw that indeed lower density and stick count had better timings overall but I'd think selling a 3600/17 4x16Gb kit would yield me, well, 3600/17 results. If the numbers aren't updated accordingly to the kit total memory count and module quantity, well, it's a bit of a cheat ?
  2. So I've been failing at getting my 64Gb G.skill Trident Z 3600 / CL 17 kit to run at, well, the advertised 3600Mhz / CL17 specifications. Basically, the system will power up and that's it. Bios code Ad, "ready to boot event". CMOS clearing required from there. With the four sticks in the machine, the best I could do was using the Memory Try-it! feature of my x570 msi MEG Ace to run at 3200/16, which is if I understand correctly actually slightly worse than 3600/17. A-XMP fails, "better" settings seem to fail, 3600/17 isn't even in the Try-It! list... With two sticks I could reach the expected 3600/17. As far as I can tell I can use whatever two sticks this way. It's just with 4 that it will hang up. My error here was switching to that kit almost last minute before buying, forgetting to check the mobo QVL. The kit doesn't seem to be on it. To be fair, there aren't a LOT of 64Gb kits either. However QVL not being the be all end all of ram compatibility, I still have hope I can make it work. Or then I'll probably have to RMA the kit, which is always annoying. Any idea what I may be missing / could do to make it work ? 3. I have almost the same setup ; 3700x with a meg ACE ( so MSI too ), 64GB of 3600 / CL17 Trident Z non-RGB, but with a 2080ti. I've lowered voltage to the same amount and I'm also getting around 50°C in idle, with a noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 ( only one fan, temporary measure ). Same cpu frequency, too. I read that the default voltage was indeed quite stupid ( 1.5 ) and very much unneeded... I was also intrigued at the temperature value, though I expect it to drop a bit when I reattach the second fan. So yeah you're not alone, though I can't tell if it's normal An auxiliary question if I may ? Does your ram work well ? I can't for the life of me XMP or manually put it to it's actual 3600mhz value. I even tried 3200, it just won't POST. Since we've got almost the same... CL17 isn't in the Memory Try-it! list but it doesn't hurt asking!
  4. Oh god kill me. I was in the process of re-re-re-installing windows agaaaaain when the screen went black agaaaaain. I suspected something wrong with the GPU too, at this point, since the rig itself wasn't shutting down and the bios Code was still AA, which roughly seems to translate to "OS in session". But with 3 DisplayPort inputs and only one HDMI, all I had done so far was try different DP port... And that's when I noticed the metallic part, the actual plug itself, really wasn't very sturdy. So I just finally decided to try a HDMI cable, and.... Lo and behold, Windows installation appeared on my monitor in all its glorious blueness, right where I had left it. Cherry on top, so far I had to deal with low resolution, deformed picture, resulting in that terrible bios photo I posted earlier : no more! It's finally in HD. So, I can now proceed with Windows installation at long last. Maybe even actually USE the computer *gasp* ! Bottom line : check the bloody video cable, too.... Ram isn't out of the woods yet but I feel like I'm going somewhere at least.
  5. Nobody got any idea? At this point I'm even trying to lower voltage, as 1.50V in idle is apparently too much ( mobo default ). It seems to have given me a wee bit of additionnal stability but I still can't complete Windows setup. Still goes black screen too early. While this is a recent MSI motherboard since it's x570 even a sensibly similar experience with any board and ryzen 3x may help
  6. Ah, it's a placeholder. Actually waiting for 3950x. Since I have an online retailer here with 60 days trial, I'll just send the 3700x back and grab the 3950x come september. I could have grabbed the 3900x for the trial period but just in case something goes wrong ( they refuse it back or I overshoot the time limit ) it's less of a money loss ( also, I gambled 3700x would be easier to sell in that case ). And, France. We also got lovely taxes ! And to think these are the best deals PCPP could find ... I actually got the SSD directly from Corsair in Taiwan, even with shipping it's still a win

Power is at least being distributed, according the the fact all fans are spinning and all leds are lighting up, but it's hard to reach POST let alone bios let alone windows. I even find it hard to describe the issue with more details as I basically get a different bios code and/or behaviour each time I try something, which mostly consists of swapping the ram sticks around and clearing CMOS when nothing works anymore. 1/ At first when it didn't work I flashed bios using the back panel button and usb drive. E7C35AMS.120 is now the version I see when I can actually go into the bios. 1/ I tried various ram stick setup. Only one in A2 ( reached bios ), only two in A2/B2 ( reached bios ), only two in A1/B1 ( nothing ), two in A2/B2 and one in A1 ( nothing ). Various bios code, I think I may have seen them all here. 1/ Apparently getting all 4 sticks at once is close to mission impossible. I succeeded once in making them all work together by swapping them around randomly out of frustration, but I could never get them to reach max speed and was stuck to default clock, 2133. Any other setup would result in black screen no bios. 2/ Once I could reach that golden setup, I tried installing windows. I made it as far as connecting the network, choosing an additionnal language and before I could select it, boom, black screen. From there the MSI logo would pop up, windows would start loading, boom, black screen. 3/ I removed two sticks hoping for more stability. Still windows loading up, black screen. 4/ Cleared CMOS, finally reached Bios and swapped boot back to USB first, HDD second ( why isn't that default? ). 5/ Reboot. Windows installation started. Before I could even choose the "install windows" option, black screen. Back to 3. Random behaviours I noted : - Now that I have a hint of Windows installation, hitting the power button once whenever the computer is up and running, despite no display, sends the computer to sleep, according to the bios code. - When clearing CMOS, I have to reboot at least twice. First reboot always shows me bios code 02. I'll consider it's normal, that's not something I usually do... - it takes FOREVER to boot up to POST. It's super slow. I even got myself some Netflix up to pass the time while waiting when I was switching ram sticks around and rebooting again and again. Also, when I was able to make it work with the four sticks, the bios screen was actually all jumbled up, resolution is just incorrect. My biggest issue at this point is that I have not a single clue which component is failling. Ram ? Possible, since I can't seem to be able to run all 4. Could also be dimm slots, so Mobo. Maybe GPU since I loose signal after all, despite the bios code telling me all is well and booted up ( bios code AA, it's happening right now ). I think I'm in dire need of some help... There will probably be RMA involved, but I'd at least need to know what. Unless I can fix it, of course...
  9. It's too late for Subnautica I think - the giveaway window has passed. As for the EGS... Your Mileage May Vary. I personally hate it - for multiple reasons I won't care to disclose here to not bore everyone to death. But I also am stuck with it if I want to play a certain BL3 when it's released... So... Yeah, up to our personnal preferences I guess.
  10. One thing I forgot to mention was the context of that discussion, which is using Houdini for heavy VFX simulation work. It should put the ram under more pressure than during gaming. Also, I vaguely mentionned am4 : consider the CPU to be at least the upcoming 3950x, which, again, considering the nature of Ryzen, could influence the importance of the memory kit specs. While 3200cl14 is still a very good combo as far as I know, I find it a bit strange to advise people to buy, like, 2666 with lowest CL (13 according to PCPP ) alongside a 3950x, especially for the aforementionned pretty intensive tasks. I mean, even AMD recommends 3600cl16 over 3200cl14 anyway. So at least in gaming, bandwidth is indeed relevant. Some pretty important fps differences here... He doesn't mention latency though, I wonder how much it would affect his benchmarks.
  11. I recently came into contact with someone claiming CAS was way more important than ram speed, and should almost be the only criteria to factor in when choosing a ram kit. They also claimed saying that "3600 is the sweetspot for am4" is stupid and moronic. Finally, they said they'd rather get a 2666mhz CL 12 kit than a 3600 CL 15 kit. Now from what I understand, the "common" formula used to calculate actual timings or "true latency", (CL/FREQ) * 1000 * 2, yields us the following score : (12/2666)*2000 = 9.00ns (15/3600)*2000 = 8.33ns making the theoretical 3600 CAS 15 kit a winner. Not to mention it also gets better bandwidth, and should be a better base for OCing ? As for me, I think speed and latency are obviously connected, hence the term of sweetspot after all. I'd go as far as give a little preference to speed as long as latency doesn't suffer too much ( went with 64gb 3600/17, couldn't find 16, don't know how much the ram amount and stick setup can affect latency ). You can always underclock the frequency to get good latency or something, but that's a world I do not know yet. So... Are they wrong, or am I missing something fundamental here ? a few links to common sources over the internet :
  12. Yeah... Ah well it's better than nothing, amirite ? Heh, I was chuckling to myself earlier thinking exactly that.
  13. As far as I can tell, except for a vague "September", nothing has been confirmed about a potential release date for the next Ryzen. I forgot to put points in the Googling skill though, so maybe I'm not aware of the latest news... Do we have any actual or even rumoured clues as to when the Ryzen 3950x will be available "exactly" ? ( basically one of the web retailer in my country offers a 60days testing period, so I'm thinking of grabbing a 3900x for now and sending it back to get a 3950x come September )
  14. Actually, they do ; but I think at 760euros it's a bit expensive with a meh latency (18). Hence a slight bias toward the Trident. There was also Vengeance LPX 3733 but with a pricetag close to 1000euros it would just have teared through my budget

After much reviewing, the 2080ti gaming X trio should fit both my bill and my needs. The FTW3 I was considering earlier actually is rare in my country and as such is too expensive. Too bad, it was a bit noisy but featured some nice temp. Trio is quieter but hotter too. Also put case fans as an option for now. So I went ahead and started ordering. There was only one model of that ram left in stock so I decided it was maybe a good idea to just get it now instead of risking being stuck with arguably lower quality sticks ( or worst, physically bigger... shivers ). So I just grabbed everything from LDLC : motherboard ( after reviewing my options Meg Ace just feels like the right one ), PSU, and RAM. I still have a bit of time to decide about the main cooler as I order the rest. No idea if I'll need some additionnal cables, I'll go on the assumption that it should be ok. I'll stay open to suggestions though, I haven't locked everything yet ^^ Thanks
  16. Did a bit of looking around and I wonder. DRP4 has better base clearance ( 40 mm ) than D15 ( 32mm ) BUT apparently the Noctua has way more room to move the fans up and ultimately get more clearance ( as long as it fits in the case, 185mm max according to Fractal Design website ). This has been discussed some time ago here notably : In short both should work ( I found at least two other occurences of people claiming the Trident Z indeed fit naturally under the DRP4 ) with Noctua requiring a little bit of tweaking which, thankfully, seems to be an easy enough task. Maybe I'll actually stick with Noctua here...
  17. It is indeed ; trio is in the 1200-1260 euros range. FTW3 starts at 1410 and is apparently not frequent here. It's not even listed in some of the more known french retailers lists. Weird. Now I feel bad for not thinking of checking for stocks - didn't even cross my mind it would be scarcely available ?
  18. The issue with the ftw3 hybrid is more about the noise, apparently the pump suck and evga can't do anything about it except RMA - and people report the new product don't really improve. There is always a relatively loud whinning noise, like a beer fridge or something And I'm not sure I have the skillz and patience to efficiently OC , let alone custom-rig things... I mean it's always a good thing to know how to DIY but I'm not sure I can pull it off Thanks! You really helped me get that rig going !
  19. Yeah this post is scaring me away from the Hybrid, to be fair Just to protect my sanity I'll look at one of the alternative. I could always buy the hybrid kit later if I feel like it. So Gaming X trio vs ftw3 non hybrid, I guess. The Trio costs 210 euros less. The Trio however heats more. And everyone seems to love Evga. Can't deny that fact... Hm ! ?
  20. As the title suggests, I'm looking for the one 2080ti GPU to go complete my planned rig ( 3950x, x570 meg ace, 3 m2 ssds, air cooling, Fractal design R6 ) This should be about the last piece I have to research before fine tuning the thing. And as always within the computer hardware world, so many choices ! So far my researches seem to constantly come back to Evga and MSI, with the forerunners being the EVGA 2080ti FTW3 Ultra [hybrid] Gaming and the MSI 2080ti Gaming X Trio. EVGA seems to feature some of the best temperatures ( and support ), but it seems noisy especially in the Hybrid version, while the MSI is quieter but of course also hotter. Any opinions about those two? Or maybe there are some runner-up I didn't foresee ? Aorus extreme ? Asus ROG strix ? MSI lightning ? And while my budget is high ( 5k for the rig ) I don't think I want to dip in to the high waters of the Kingpin. Top usage is gaming, though I'll indulge myself with GPU rendering ( redshift ) which may put some pressure on the card.
  21. it really is a shame there aren't more usb in the back. I too am still toying with the idea of getting the creation instead myself because I have a sh!tload of things to plug. im a bit intimidated by the eatx form though... I have also been recommended the Aorus Ultra but you already covered that one. These considerations aside, however angle I look at it the meg ace seems like the right solution for my needs and at this price. 3 m2 slots, above average Ethernet, wifi, and I even just learned there was the heatpipe stuff. Dang couldn't they have put just two more usb back behind !
  22. Some solid points indeed. I've never jumped the gun and have always used Noctua based air cooling myself. It's good you mention the issue with memory modules as, as far as I can remember, I always had issues with Noctua cpu coolers blocking one slot of RAM, which is obviously annoying as heck. As for the GPU I'm probably over-overthinking it... Indeed I read that the pump on the Ultra Hybrid seems to be quite noisy and people have been put off by it. I'd rather not deal with that so I'll just keep reading reviews to find the right one. But maybe I'm just hurting myself ; I could probably just grab one and be happy with it edit : oh, case fans! I guess I could go with case fans? probably a couple https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/product/znPfrH/noctua-case-fan-nfa15pwm
  23. I see ; if course I wasn't expecting a high end cooler but it's best to have an idea where it stands. While it's free I'd rather not cut costs on CPU cooling - it would be very sad indeed to build a 4/5k rig and cheap out on the cooling Also, I can consider other mobo brands with my heart at peace .... ( thought the Ace indeed got a lot of features right )
  24. Hey, So this AIO liquid cooler is being gifted away with the purchase of any MSI x570 motherboards, I was wondering if it was any good or if I should just go with good old Noctua air cooling. The case should be a fractal design R6 housing a ryzen 3950x and a yet TBD 2080ti with a few gen4 ssds.
  25. I see ! I'll have to check how many usb I need. There are indeed a bit more slots on the Aorus. Any thoughts on the AIO cooler master masterliquid ml240R ? Not that I WANT it but since it's free with the MSI I was thinking it may tip the scales in favor of the Ace. I mean it's RGB, yuck, but if it's free... As for the GPU I'm not too limited by money anyway. The evga ultra Hybrid looks like a good solution but maybe it got downsides ?
