XenosTech reacted to LAwLz in Tile bashes Apple’s new AirTag as unfair competition. It will be asking Congress on Wednesday to take a closer look into Apple
I can see both sides and I don't think the answer is either "Apple bad" or "Tile bad".
Are Tile pissed that Apple launched a competing product that (seemingly) is better than theirs? Absolutely.
Are Tile taking this opportunity to try and make some money from Apple? Yes they are.

Are Apple in the wrong for taking a 30% cut from the store? In my opinion, yes. It's way too high.
Are Apple in the wrong for (allegedly) not allowing the same access to hardware and software features as they allow themselves? In my opinion, yes. There should be an equal playing field for developers.
Would allowing third party stores solve a lot of the issues me and many other have with Apple? Absolutely.

Not always the case. Dell support usually X number of years past end of sales life. Fujitsu and HP do the same. Sometimes prolongation is available but not always. It depends on parts availability. Often it can be something like the custom PSU or a third party card that is no longer available new. They will not buy from the used market. I deal with this regularly. Often see kit purchased near end of sales, then it takes a year or two to actually put to use. By then it often only has three years before end of support. Network gear sometimes has a longer life but a lot of that is because it changes less over time. Brocade are a good example of that.

That's definitely good, although it reinforces one of the things that bugs me about support in Windows and Android circles: this tendency toward short-lived support unless you pay a premium for it. Yeah, it's great that you can get help with a decade-old business PC through a pricey business contract, but if you just bought a $500 consumer laptop? Be thankful if you even get three years, plebe.

You see this also in how Android OEMs have long determined update schedules based on how expensive a device is. I've seen budget Android phones that never got a major OS update, and even ones that shipped with a year-old platform (that also never got updated).

Apple admittedly skews toward higher-end computers and mobile devices where lengthier support is easier, but that still makes its support more egalitarian. It doesn't matter whether you bought a Mac mini or a decked-out Mac Pro, you'll still get several years of OS updates. It varies a bit based on exact components, but there's rarely a huge gulf. In mobile, the original iPhone SE still runs the latest version of iOS, and will likely continue with security updates and new apps for a while after that; I can't imagine any Samsung phone from 2016 officially running Android 11, let alone the mid-tier models.

Yes in some cases single rank dimms will OC  way better but board and cpu imc still plays a key factor there and the quality on the chips on either ram set up

TODAY at this very moment  we can't really look down  on AMD for their RT performance becasue honestly speaking  it's a first  gen product so expecting 30 series levels of RT  performance  was a pipe dream and let's see  what the next generation of RT cards from AMD brings  to the table, we can be  critical about the  performance  then  since  they  would have had time to  make  architectural changes like they did from  zen2 to zen3. As  for the here and now I'd  give them a pat on the back for finally having cards at the high end  that are competitive albeit 6800's pricing is questionable to the 3070's

We should jump onboard with it, and force it through with the stipulation that it applies as much to elected officials as it does to the common citizen.

I don't see this coming true, it takes very little for Alphabet inc to turn on support for more devices when they can limit it to the Top 5 brands or whatever other decision they make. uprooting your entire mobile life to switch to apple or go from apple to android is something people will "consider" but to actually follow through and slug through the learning curve of a whole new system is extremely unlikely.

if the survey worded the question as "would you consider switching to an iPhone 12 to have more security and privacy?" of course anyone but the deeply rooted android users would consider it, the framework of the question can be modified to guarantee a minimum desired response percentage.
