XenosTech reacted to mynameisjuan in Light Sleeper - Samsung Galaxy S10 Can't Tell When it's in a Pocket
Because you guys are looking at it wrong and the second sentence if not even what happens.
Three important things
1. Touch to wake
2. Unlock without waking
3. Thighs can trigger touches.
You touch the screen you can wake it and if you touch by the FP reader you can unlock it. If you put the phone in your pocket your thigh can trigger touches. This happens especially if you are sweaty.
Hence why proxy should be used when in a pocket. Samsung has been doing this for years even with just preventing a screen from staying on in your pocket or purse if the button is accidentally hit. Its a good design used to prevent phones just staying on or butt dialing.
So yes, it makes perfect sense to involve the proxy.

XenosTech reacted to Sauron in Steam isn't going to count reviews from review-bomb periods
Yes, but the presence or lack of mods influences the gameplay experience and your enjoyment of the game. It makes sense to consider it in a review.

Assuming you're looking at SLC for performance and don't care about price, might as well go Optane at that point.

This is a tough one. They could save a lot with robots, but when the robots jump they'll need stronger, more expensive netting.

XenosTech reacted to mynameisjuan in The tech industry is losing patience with Microsoft over Windows 10 updates / Re-release of Win 10 v1809 still plagued with issues
Not disagreeing but people take the same view on this thread on linux too.
Linux is far from the bullet proof OS people make it out to be. Updates on linux, mainly kernal, and distro upgrades cause more problems than windows updates do. Arch is on its death bed because of this, fedora is a guessing game of will it boot or not, debian based distros upon upgrades are hit and miss with mint being the only stable OS due to them holding off on major updates.
You dont have linux issues and I dont have windows issues even though others do on each OS. Windows is not the only one to blame

These discussions are getting ridiculous and go no where. For the most part forum users are suffering cognitive bias as they are always the goto people when there is a problem. We are the people who take an interest and go looking for articles on said issues. When was the last time someone came up to you and said, "hey, my pc is working fine, no need to worry today"? They don't, not because it doesn't happen but because no one cares to do that.
I want data, I want the percentage of updates that fail. Compare all the leading OS's. and causes. I don't want to read opinion pieces from media.

XenosTech reacted to mr moose in The tech industry is losing patience with Microsoft over Windows 10 updates / Re-release of Win 10 v1809 still plagued with issues
Since I started turning my PC off at night (usually a regular time) back in 2015, I have had one issue with updates annoying me with a restart. That's one issue in 3 years for a regular user.
I get that restarts can be annoying, I get that the update system is broken to a degree for certain users, that is the nature of updates to products via the internet. But It is that way and will be that way due to the nature of the beast. This is not going to change anytime soon. It's not something MS or Apple or canonical can just change by doing something different, and to be honest I find it a bit scary that a forum full of tech enthusiasts don't understand the bigger issues that dictate a lot of this.

I had a timer in my keyboard macro software to remind me to restart my pc every saturday, now that the software is broken in this build I have to set it on my phone. Outside of that all the little annoyances I've had with win 10 are going away. (Taskbar occasionally bugs out still sigh.)

Then as has been stated you are using the wrong OS. Windows is never going to guarantee to run without interruption for weeks, the nature of users clicking "remind me later" results in malware on the scale of wanna cry. The average user cannot be trusted to install updates in a timely manner. IF you need weeks of up time then you need an OS designed to do that.
Do you also try to run deliveries in a mini and then blame the car manufacturer because they are not catering to your needs of a ute or truck?
It's right tools for the job, windows is not the right tool for you if you need your PC on that long.

I solely used Linux for a good 3 year stint and still use Linux on the side, It is much better today with most common hardware being made to a standard, but I can assure you it is still not as good as windows for compatability with hardware in general.
Windows is designed for the average everyday joe and office work, it is not designed for people who don't save their work and refuse too power cycle. It likely never will be.

I didnt say that others dont have problems. Just having worked at a call center starting at a level 1 to a sysadmin, I have ran into litter problems over the years. Most problems are not the OS (aka the person).
I get there are updates that are breaking things but I think how wide spread the issue is is being blown up more and more.
