Ha I'd love for him to slap that 4790k cooler on a xeon equivalent and let it  try to cool the xeon while it does it's usual tasks. There's a reason server sit in air conditioned rooms. Even with those high rpm fans they'll throttle faster than a consumer chip when they get bitch slapped with a sustained load.

It'll be failing the task due to desktop/workstation usage being burst load and the server workload profile is much more sustained, meaning the cooler never gets time to dissipate extra heat above the capacity of the cooler. 5 minutes of 140W load on a 80W cooler isn't actually much of a problem, you may or may not throttle slightly but once the load drops the built up heat will dissipate and the cooler is ready to handle another peak load. On the other hand the Xeon could be sustaining 100W load on a 80W cooler, it'll throttle always forever.

The equipment and process shown in the video is standard across the industry, like I said it's however not relevant to the devices they are going to cool. CPUs aren't fixed heat output and a cooler with 200W TDP can perform worse than a 180W TDP cooler for an Intel CPU operating in Intel spec (not common on gaming MB) where by the boost duration is actually honored and the 180W TDP cooler has better heat conduction from the IHS to the cooler base plate and to the fins.

TDP ratings are unfortunately not fully representative of a coolers performance when placed on a CPU, that is why cooler TDPs were taken off box packaging and marketing. There just isn't a single unit of measurement that can be used to show which cooler is better than another for all applications.

Cooler manufacturers do actually have very good standards for measuring thermal performance of coolers and it's common across that industry, the problem is the devices they are designed to cool (CPUs/GPUs) do not use the same measurement specification nor use the TDP rating for the same intended purpose. It's a bit like measuring the horsepower at the flywheel versus at the wheel, different things telling you different information.

Gamers Nexus has a video on their channel where they go to a cooler manufacture and show the equipment used to measure TDP of coolers and how the process is done. While this method is scientifically accurate a CPU/GPU is not a fixed power output heating plate so if you were trying to 1 to 1 the TDPs you'll end up with a greatly over spec cooler.

Intel does also have detailed thermal specification documents for mobile CPUs, desktop CPUs and server CPUs. Yes how Intel rates these products with TDPs is different across these product ranges, a desktop CPU with 88W TDP is not the same as a Xeon with 88W TDP.

What it boils down to is that there is zero point in general for consumers to be discussing TDPs because they are, for us, useless specifications that are not understood well enough to convey meaningful information.

TDP, where the watts don't matter and the numbers are made up.

    Only partially true.

Basically "pirate" content has four or so categories:
    - Pirate video
    - Pirate software/games
    - Pirate comics
    - Pirate books

With Video, the pirate copy is always significantly worse than the Blueray, but usually at parity with the stream because the pirates are literately ripping the stream itself. It's been known for quite some time how to do that, and sites like Crunchyroll/VRV and Funimation are very behind on that.

With that said, if something is not available in your region entirely due to region locking nonsense, or lack of a localized source, then piracy ends up being your only option, because the vast majority of video content will never be localized, and by the time it's localized for BD, the pirates have made it unprofitable so may as just sell the BD's for $400/ea and only make 1000 of them.

With software and games, the pirate version and the non-pirate version is identical, most of the time. It's been quite a while since pirates made rips of games so that they could be downloaded over usenet or dialup, so it really comes down to how much the developer cares to profit from it. Subscription software can't even be argued to be "pirated" since you lose access to the software if you're not subscribed, and "live services" games may or may not even have a base game to even buy.

Comics/Artbooks/Manga/Manhua/etc - Rarely localized, and what does get localized is only what larger publishers think will sell. There's entire libraries of English content that isn't available in Europe because it's not available in German or Italian or some other non-English language, even if the writer/artist wants to sell it there. So pirate copies of the English (or Japanse, or Korean, etc) comic are fan-translated into French, German, Italian or Russian, the original writer/artist gets super-annoyed but really can't do anything about it since they can't accept payments from half of Europe.

Pirated books, are plentiful, easy to find, and unfortunately nobody seems to see any value in trying to have a "netflix of ebooks", because it's too easy to just rip the entirety of whatever store hosts them and then package it as one download on a pirate site.

Make the effort to try get something legally before resorting to piracy. Some people never want to pay for anything, no matter how easy it is to buy it, and then there are people who live in places like Australia who simply get locked out of every "online service" on account of being in Australia.

Meh, I try not to pirate stuff but the whole my country getting lumped with latin america kinda pisses me off since the official language of my country is english and 9/10 streaming sites only give me spanish as an option unless I use a vpn. My second language is french ffs q.q

You know a company is serious about their product when they go to this level, it is quite unnecessary and if the games fail it will look really bad for them and their hardware.

That's an unfair comparison. One is a horrible addiction that cripples friendships, destroys families, empties trust funds and savings, and causes all hygiene + common sense to go out the window, and the other is drugs.

Let's not forget we can cram more of these in a server than we can HDDs AND we can also chuck them in a shopping cart and take them across the parking lot to the new building without data loss lol

Even if the reads are only 200MB/s-250MB/s (which is lower than I expect) that's still faster than an HDD and the access latency times will be below ms to less than 3ms (bar cases where it makes no difference) so will still be much faster than an HDD, even a good 7200 rpm.

Remember back to the first generation of SSDs that were barely faster than WD VelociRaptors of the time? Usability and feel of those SSDs were still much better, no seek times = better.

Back in my days, we actually forced the IT department to up their game in the security department ; we realized that when they created users, they always used the same password ... for everyone!

The next batch of students got a surprise ; we found out the new users usernames, logged into their accounts (there was no prompt to change the password) and dropped a batch file in the start folder that opened 20 browser Windows(if I remember right) another 20 video files (hidden on a server somewhere) and a few other things.

Needless to say the IT dept. wasn't happy ... at all! That had the effect to crash part of the network when all 25 or so new students tried to login!

But at least it had the effect of them not using one initial password on new accounts! lol

Can't believe people are still using Norton (the consumer version) ... nobody should be using that, even if it's free.

One of our tech couldn't figure out why the VPN wasn't working on a user's personal laptop. He was connected remotely and I checked with him, Norton was doing a background scan that took +/- 20% CPU and was accessing the HDD like crazy, making that laptop seems like a useless piece of junk (even though it's a not so old HP with a 7200u and 8GB of RAM).

One we realized all the problems came from Norton, we were quick to fix it, but still! Please people, don't use Norton Security, it's junk!
