  1. Hello everyone, A friend of mines father asked me for help in finding a laptop that he can take in his big rig with him. He's worried about the bouncing around as he might use the laptop to display his maps while he's driving. I assume anything with an SSD should be fine to take a bit of a rough ride? And maybe something with good hinges. It will not be used for anything more intensive than watching movies so a GPU is not needed, and I was thinking an i3, i5, or ryzen equivalent will be plenty. 15" screen minimum, 17" preferred 1080p or higher Touchscreen would be preferred Backlit keys preferred Disc drive preferred SSD drive i3 + $1300 CAD / $1000 USD budget What would you fine folk suggest?
  2. Alright, I succeeded in getting my PC back. CMOS reset didn't seem to work fully the first few times I tried it, reset my fan curves but not anything else. A combination of leaving the computer unplugged for longer and shorting my CMOS for 20s instead of 10 seemed to fully reset it. Back to the glorious stock motherboard settings including a lovely CPU voltage of 1.481v. Will see if I can successfully alter my voltages without killing my system again.
  3. Thanks for your recommendations, as per your suggestions I did the following: Lowered my all core overclock from 4.2ghz to 3.8ghz as I did not think 4.2ghz would be stable at 1.25V CPU Core Voltage from 1.300V to 1.250V CPU SOC Voltage from 1.125V to 1.100V 1P8 Voltage from auto to 1.800V As for SB Voltage, I am not sure what MSI calls this in their BIOS as I did not see it so this did not get changed. Saved my changes and attempted to post and failed. I am unable to get to my BIOS According to my motherboard LEDs I achieve the following: SEC Progress Codes 01 Power on. Reset type detection (soft/hard) 02 AP initialization before microcode loading 03 System Agent initialization before microcode loading 04 PCH initialization before microcode loading 06 Microcode loading 07 AP initialization after microcode loading And then I am stuck on 07 without further initialization My CPU debug LED is also lit up indicating CPU not detected/fail Resetting my CMOS did not appear to do anything other than reset all my custom fan curves.
  4. I am having issues cooling my new build under heavy load. I recently discovered my issues in staying cool when trying to setup folding@home. I have an all core overclock at 4.2ghz at the stock 1.3v and undervolted a lot of the other recommended items to attempt to deal with heat. I didn't have any luck with that so I took my cooler off and replaced the stock pre-applied thermal paste with some thermal grizzly. That didn't seem to help either so I replaced all my stock case fans with Noctuas as well as adding two more on top of the default three. I also switched my rad fans to Noctua NF12s and moved my rad from a push config at the top of my case to a push config at the front of my case pulling fresh outside air. So far throwing money at my issues has not helped any so I am coming to you guys for help. I have done my research and I shouldn't have this much trouble keeping my 3950x cool with this cooler compared to other people, and most of people I found with issues similar to my own were running much higher voltages than I am. I reached these temps after about a 5m stress test, I am quite confident they would keep climbing had I left it running. Ambient temperature roughly 24c. Thanks in advance. If anyone would benefit from a screenshot of my BIOS OC profile let me know and I will supply it.
  5. I have tested sharing other folders/drives, I have tested accessing the PC from other devices. I went into services and made sure the following were enabled and running: - Function Discovery Provider Host - Function Discovery Resource Publication - SSDP Discovery - UPnP Device Host I made sure I can see my shares through /localhost/ and I have given everyone permission under security for both the folder I am trying to share and my test folders. I am still unable to see my PC under network on any other devices and I am not able to access it without a user account if I manually enter /NOLAN-PC/ I have still not resolved my issue and am hoping for some more input.
  6. Updated original post with more information. Still having the same issue.
  7. Are you referring to file sharing in the advanced sharing settings? I have file sharing turned on there as well. I disabled my firewall completely to make sure that was not interfering but I am still having the same issue with the inability to see my PC from any other win10 devices in the network tab of explorer, and by typing in the network path I am just asked for credentials to the host PC, troubleshooter says my user account does not have permission to access host computer even though I have full access granted to everyone in both the share tab and the security tab of the drive I am trying to share.
  8. I just did a fresh install of windows 10 on my old PC as I was having a lot of strange issues with windows recognizing certain drives and registry errors and so on. On my previous install I had my 12tb media HDD shared over the network publicly so anyone on the network could see the folder and add to it, or watch TV shows and Movies from there if the didn't feel like using the Plex server. On my fresh install of windows I am having difficulty getting my folder publicly shared again. I am unable to access it without being prompted for user account info to this PC. These are my current share settings. When I first tried to share the folder I had difficulty with permissions as this drive thought my old user account on my old windows installation was still the owner, so I changed the ownership in advanced security settings to myself, and added "everyone" as a principle with full control, including folders, subfolders, and files. In order to rule this out as still being an issue I tried sharing a freshly formatted drive on the network and still was unable to access it. Here are my network settings: I also have turned my firewall off to ensure that is not an issue for some reason. From the server I can go to the network tab in explorer, and then my computer, and see the folder that I have shared. However when I go to connect from another device I am required to input a username and password which is what I am trying to avoid. I just want the drive to be public and anyone on the local network to have access to it. Thanks to whoever takes the time to read this.
  9. Yeah, that's probably not a terrible idea. I could pick up something like that, wireless AC for sure and take the POS modem/router combo thing upstairs and just use it as a modem with a real router.
  10. Good question, I have it in the bottom slot, I'll see if I can find the manual for the motherborad and see what slot is what.
  11. Just popped off my side panel to double check what I had in it. I know the first wireless card I had was a cheap one and nothing fancy hence why replacing it was one of the first things I tried. What I currently have is a D-Link Xtreme N DWA-552. I'll see what I can find for drivers and see if that makes any difference.
  12. I have had this issue for a couple years and since then have done a fresh install of windows at least once. Or are you referring to resetting all networking related drivers and such?
