  1. more than likely you will run into compatibility and device passthrough issues long before you run into general networking issues, very few people have been successful in getting a gaming VM setup, there is a whole list of requirements that must be met first, and even then, running it on an SR-X with direct PCIe passthrough still is very limiting, you can run benchmarks, but the latency caused by translating through the hypervisor makes anything but slower games unplayable
  2. i think the biggest thing for me is the customization that you can do with mechanicals, you can solder on different switches, replace keycaps with everything from blank PBT to cast zinc, custom make frames, etc, these are not really things you can do with too many membrane keyboards, you are pretty much limited to what you get in the box that limitation of having just another G15 makes membrane pretty meh
  3. i would second the rampage 4 extreme, i have one, and i won't swap it out, the biggest thing you need to look at is the case, not the motherboard, the motherbaord is easy, R4E, and a 3930k or 3960/70x, but finding a case that can accomodate 3 factory presealed radiators is going to be a bit more difficult, i know the Cosmos2 wont do it, try looking at the 800D

  5. yes, logically an external HDD and a USB drive are identical, the only difference is capacity
  6. not all tools work all the time, especially when going between vista/7/8 and various server versions, or if you are using a ARM based tablet, such as the Surface

Often people turn to online tools, and they never quite work right for windows, however, the tools for making a boot-able USB drive are build into all versions of Windows since Vista and 2K8: Standard Installer (Vista/7/8/Server): first, insert your windows vista/7/8/server disk or mount the iso, as well as the USB dive you will be using, take note of the assigned drive letters. in this case i'll be using L: for the DVD drive, and M: for the USB drive next, right click the USB drive and select 'Format': select 'NTFS' as the file system, name the drive, and click format: next, open an elevated command prompt or powershell (right click and 'run as administrator') navigate to the DVD/ISO boot folder by typing cd x:\boot ('x' is the letter of the DVD drive or ISO) next, type bootsect /nt60 y: ('y' is the letter of your USB drive you just formatted) next, simply go to your DVD/ISO and copy all the files, then paste them into your USB drive and that's it, you're done, no looking through 10 websites for a boot tool, or risking viruses, malware, or whatever one thing to note, this only works for Windows, if you want to use Linux, are currently using Linux, or simply want a tool anyway, get Unetbootin also, if you want to make a universal Win7 installer, (you can pick which version you want to install, such as home or pro, but not x86 or x64) in your win7 ISO, or USB drive, go to :/sources/ and delete the file named ei.cfg UEFI Installer (8/Server 2012): this is for the most part a CLI drive management partitioning and then a simple copy/paste first open a elevated command prompt or powershell (right click, 'run as administrator'): type diskpart: next type list disk: now, look for the USB drive you are using, it is very important that you select the right one (judge by capacity, they don't make 8GB hard drives anymore) in this case my USB drive is disk 7 type select disk x ('x' is the number of your disk) now type clean (this will erase any data on the disk) now type create partition primary: next type active: now type format fs fat32 quick: now type assign (this will cause the explorer to pop up with the drive) go back to the command line and type exit, then go to your Win8/Server2k12 DVD/ISO, select all the files, and copy them now just paste them into the USB drive: that's it, no bootsect or boot partitioning needed, it's possible to do this through Disk Management, but CLI is a bit faster and linear all you have to do next is plug the drive into the computer, the USB drive should be detected as a UEFI option as for the actual install, not every EFI motherboard is ready for an actual UEFI install, some may just not work (cough*rampage IV extreme)
  8. being a bit more technical: a modem, which is short for modulator/demodulator converts a digital signal into an analog signal on a carrier wave, it is used for all non pure digital connections, but mostly dsl, cable, dialup, and satellite a router routes traffic between two separate layer 3 networks, most commonly the internet (WAN) and your network (LAN), however, home routers are often multiple devices included: Router NAT Gateway DHCP/DNS server Firewall 4 port layer 2 switch Wireless Access Point so a router/modem combo, simply adds 'modem' to that list
  9. pretty much, you also need to setup their router to direct incoming requests on port 80 and 8080 to that server, but not outgoing requests also, make sure they have a static IP, if they have a dynamic IP, you may have to setup a dynamic DNS service and direct the domain to that, which will redirect to the server
  10. it's actually a fact that as a society, we are dumber than say 2500 years ago, however, this is due to the fact that it takes less intelligence to survive till adulthood today than it has in the past, that is not to say that our smarter people are less smart, that would be silly, however, the increased amount of "dumb" people brings the average down if you took an ipad or smartphone back in time to ancient athens, the average athenian would not think it was magic, but would probably be able to figure out how to use it faster than most people today can, think of a society filled with nothing but PhD caliber people, once you realize that, things like the pyramids and ancient structures are not as impressive

In one of his videos Logan mentioned the "because cake" argument, basically if your argument can be replaced with "cake" then it's not a valid argument ie, "the 7000 series are better" is the same as "the 7000 series are better because cake" however, "the 7000 series are better because they use a smaller, more power efficient chip" is a valid argument
  12. so you would want this: router>powerline> ---------powerline> switch> ----devices with that your devices will talk to each other with full Gbe speed, and still get internet/dhcp/dns from the router
