Dietrichw reacted to BorkBorkBork in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
I’m just gonna say it and accept the mobbing that will follow - as a PR professional for a living and all things considered, LMG is actually handling this a lot better than most are willing to give credit for.

The apology video was necessary but well done, showing sincerity while keeping morale up (the jokes, even if some folks find them out of place, were actually probably necessary to keep some degree of genuine perspective - the auction was bad, but at the end of the day basically an unfortunate clerical error(s) that they are working to resolve, not a malicious plot to do evil). It outlined a meaningful course of action, explained in far greater detail than was necessary the internal workings of the problem, and offered a slate of solutions very much in line with the criticisms leveled by both GN and the community.

The Madison situation is being handled carefully and gracefully with transparency and as much drive for resolution as can be expected from a corporation with 100s of real people’s livelihoods also on the line for this. Justice for those impacted does not have to mean a total collapse of the company or the automatic purge of every executive, which many here are calling for.

It is not at all an excuse for bad behavior, but LMG being an online media company holds them to uniquely different pressures than others. Think of how many allegations and cases and situations of impropriety occur at any given large company - how many of their CEOs and executive teams ever have to face a rabid audience of both sincere supporters and vicious trolls in a public forum? How many times has a CEO ever owned up and said “we did wrong, here’s our plan” without being legally forced to by a judge?

You don’t have to like their response or might feel it’s “canned corpo speak” or whatever, but as someone who has handled all this up-close for years and seen what real damage could be done by insincerity or actual malice, LMG is doing it as well as can be reasonably and fairly expected of them in handling this. Reasonable people have to be willing to show grace else no one would ever improve or strive to be better.

As not a GN fan at all, he has some valid points. I hope this doesn't get thrown in the garbage bin.

As the head of a business about half the size of LTT, I also have a little bit of an understanding of how wanting and even trying to do things doesn't always work. Seriously... I said a project that hasn't even started yet was priority a month ago...

At some point these things need to get fixed, the communication layers need to get better, or something major has to change.

Hope you guys keep growing, keep improving, and keep being you.

No real point anyway, it's just a 4060 Ti with a worse price that won't VRAM choke, review is just confirming what we already know and can infer from existing review data.

Honestly I think some of the reviewers should just release the same review video again with a few overdubbed sections and just dunk on it hard for the price lol.

Dietrichw reacted to porina in AMD's RX 7900 Series Suffering A0 Stepping Issues and Releasing Unfinished RDNA 3 Silicon; Possible RDNA 3 Revisions Coming 2023
To expand on that, basically shipping A0 means everything worked well enough to ship product. It's not a bad thing. That's not to say there wont be potential for future improvement. This puts the claim that AMD didn't want to ship until next year into further doubt. Maybe that was based on a contingency AMD had in reserve in case further work was indeed needed to get a shipping product.

Dietrichw reacted to captain_to_fire in Ming-Chi Kuo: 2023 iPhones to switch to USB-C
Unpopular opinion: I actually prefer Lightning over USB C because plugging it feels more snug than USB C. I've seen Android phones with USB C getting loose over time. I'm not sure if it's because of the one encircled in red below.

But I kinda wished Lightning was open source. But that's just me. I get as to why USB C would be nice eventually as it will mean less chargers to carry and it'll be a more cohesive experience with an iPhone, iPad, and a Mac. How I wish there's a motherboard OEM that will only put USB C ports.

Microsoft has telemetry data for how many people use certain features, they are prioritizing based off of that. I am annoyed that it can't be moved. I prefer to have my taskbar on my left monitor only (bottom) while having my middle monitor be the default display where fullscreen apps open by default.

The problem is that telemetry data does not show the full story.
"only 5% of users use feature X"
"only 5% of users use feature Y"
"only 5% of users use feature Z"

Repeat that 20 times and you have suddenly pissed off 100% of your users, (assuming no overlap of course).

Anyway, isn't moving the taskbar one of the most, if not the most highly requested feature for Windows 11?
This just further confirms what I have been saying for years now. Microsoft do not give two shits about the feedback hub. They should rename it the "fuck-off hub".

So far the only thing that I really like in W11 is AutoHDR. Some games actually look really good, haven't had a case where it made something look worse. There are some details in system apps that have been reworked for the better but nothing worth upgrading for.

My take is that they aren’t removing the false information, just making it harder for people to find it accidentally. If you want to read it its still there. In the end they made their algorithm and they didnt even need to make a public statement. The fact that they told their users is still respectable. They were never supposed to be a free search engine, just one stripped from trackers(not censorship).

I approve of this standpoint. The problem for me wasn't miners using graphics cards to mine, it is miners having special access to the supply chain that allows them to buy a pallet of matching GPU for mining. If someone obtains a GPU through retailers as a normal customer I don't care how they use the product.

Dietrichw reacted to porina in Intel Talks With TSMC, Samsung to Outsource Some Chip Production
Fabs aren't like printers, you can't just send out the same design and get something working back. The logical design has to be turned into a silicon design following the particular fab's design rules. In short, this decision wont affect any product you can buy in the next year, or maybe 2 years. We're looking at long term decisions here. Intel has to make the right choices if they expect their own manufacturing to get sorted, otherwise they're going to have to outsource part.

On that note, they wont necessarily put the same product on two different fabs, unless they want to do so to mitigate risk. They could for example put some products on one fab, other products on another. So differences would be irrelevant.

Intel right now are maybe 2 years, give or take, behind TSMC. I can't see them catching up in 2 years unless they really accelerate their 5nm plans, whatever they are. They will for sure be working hard to narrow the gap. TSMC 5nm was in production last year, and Intel's 7nm to compete with that is next year at best, given that desktop/mobile Alder Lake is on 10nm and due out towards end of year.
