  1. That's a good debug step. Will try that soon. Not too sure about this. Kits are the same ID and my understanding and experience is that the exact same kits work with XMP. Could you elaborate on this?
  2. Hey y'all, I was building a pc for a buddy of mine, all went surprisingly smooth until I wanted to enable XMP for the 4133Mhz RAM. The pc started to behave strange. It would boot a few times when I enabled XMP and one of 2 things would happen; 1. It would get stuck at Dr. Debug 0d, 2. boot as normal but with ram would run in 2133Mhz. I started debugging and found the following: The motherboard will run XMP with 4133Mhz with either 1 or 2 sticks. It would crash wit 3 or 4 sticks. I tried different stick combinations to rule out a faulty stick. I haven't done a memtest (yet). I tried running bios v 1.80 and 1.20. It runs smooth with all 4 sticks with XMP disabled. Did I overlook some setting in the bios, should I wait for a new bios version or is it expected behavior? Thanks. 3. Alright, Little update. I sifted through the trash, but wasn't able to find the missing part. It is insane how small it is, so I gave up on finding it. I do have a lenovo motherboard with similar resistors, but I don't have enough knowledge to be able to tell if it's the same. I emailed Asus Netherlands, but they said they don't have the information I'm looking for and they advised me to go to a local repair shop. They were honest enough to advise against sending it to them, 'cause they would just replace the mobo and that's freaking expensive. I'm going to ask reddit if they can ID the component I'm looking for and might email Asus USA. I found someone at work who is skilled enough to solder it for me. As I don't have the tools for soldering something that small. I''m looking into learning how to micro-solder, and what tools I need. @cr8tor I fortunately live in The Netherlands and we don't really do carpets, we either have some sort of wood like floor or stone floors. Downside of living in the Netherlands is that Asus didn't sell this laptop over here so I've been unable to source a broken mobo locally.
  4. I do have a Weller WE1010. But it still has a tip that's about 1-2mm wide. Any idea what kind of diode it is, in case I can't find it? Will continue this in the morning.
  5. I just spotted something. It's really tiny. I pushed it back into place, but I don't think that's enough. Should I treat it with a blast of the heat gun and then hold it down? The spot above it looks like something used to be one there. But I didn't find one on the tape and I don't remember having tape on there. I did find a video of the same model and I can see a second one on there. I'll have to go through the trash to find other pieces of tape.
  6. I did. There nothing on there. I looked real close, but couldn't spot anything out of the ordinary. I've added some photos. Just did. Nothing, same result; fan spins big fan spins once, white power led. Funny thing is, I can't turn it off without disconnecting the battery. I did clean of the thermal goop.
  7. Can you see the cpu clock speed and gpu speeds of the person running 100fps? I know you can in 3Dmark but it might be hidden away.
  8. Both fans spin a bit when I hold down the power button for ±20 seconds. I've tried to run it without memory and the 2 SSD's. No luck there. I've added pics of the sockets. Let me know if you want some without the cheap thermal paste. CPU is soldered on unfortunately. The G25 is a great racing wheel. Last one with up/down rally style gear shifter.
  9. Crystal disk should run it's test when you start it. Select your drive in the top. Health status should be "Good". You can also see the power On Hours and count to see how many hours your 4y/o drive has been running. Not that it really matters. I personally don't have experience with userbenchmark.
  10. I wouldn't expect the HDD to be at fault. Does crystal disk still say it's good? Did you enable XMP in the bios? Keep in mind that others might have overclocked their cpu and gpu before running the benchmarks. And that your gpu might not boost as high. You can use Afterburner to see if you're running into voltage/power limits.
  11. Hey y'all, I opened up my ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS-AH73 to reapply the 2 year old liquid metal and remove any dust from the fans as it was getting hot at idle. I decided to follow Tech Jesus' advise and apply some nail polish around the gpu and cpu before taping around the die with some electric tape. I then applied the liquid metal. I also replaced the thermal pads around the cpu, cleaned the fan and cleaned heat sink. I put everything back together and pushed the power button. My heart sank as only the white power light came on, the screen stayed black and the fans didn't ramp up as they normally do. I opened my laptop up again and pressed the power button to see what happens. The bigger fans spins a bit and then stops (see attachment). Nothing else happens, so I left it "on" as I went to google. As Google didn't hold the answer I was looking for, I decided to feel if the heat pipes were getting warm, and they were. I held down the power button for about 20 seconds and both fans turned once or twice and stopped. I disconnected the battery as I cursed my self for ruining my €1500,- gaming laptop and removed the heat sink to check if Liquid metal got away and shorted something. Everything still looked decent. I removed the liquid metal and replaced it with some non conductive thermal paste, cleaned everything I could (including the nail polish) and prayed to the Tech God while I pressed the button; same result: white light, fans turns a bit. I decided it must've been the nail polish, maybe it's conductive. So I went and tested it, but it isn't conductive. I have no clue what the issue might be. Did I ruin my motherboard? Is there a possible fix? Is there a way of figuring out what I did wrong? Does anyone recognize this start up sequel? 2020-10-16_20_38_04.mov
  12. Malware Bytes and I tried Eset NOD32. I've formatted the drive again and tried to copy the backup X86 folder to it, but no luck. Then I restarted in safe mode, ran the MalwareBytes and ESET again (which came up empty), but I was able to edit the X86 folder. I restarted into normal Windows 10 and now I'm able to edit the x86 folder again. I'm gonna check what program launch with windows, see if there's something off there.
  13. It worked for 1 hour, then it happened again. Malware bytes is unable to find anything and I'm at a loss. Looks like a clean windows 10 install is the only option left.
  14. I was too eager to dismiss it all as a "Damn Windows 10 Bug". Turned out to be a PUP called 'Search Protect". Malware Bytes found the issue and removed it, it seems to be working again. Looks like it was installed as part of a uTorrent update. "Search Protect" was installed in C:\Program Files (x86) and it probably locked all the files on the pc called "Program Files (x86)" to prevent it from being deleted. I hadn't tested C:\Program Files (x86) before I deleted the PUP, 'cause I'm using a small SSD as boot drive and don't use it for anything else.
  15. Doesn't work. I'm not the only one unable to delete files; Steam is unable to update games and apps and features is unable to uninstall programs. Even the Windows administrator (which is disabled by default) doesn't have authorization to edit D:\Program Files (x86)
