Turned PBO off and it's a huge difference. I'm guessing something is sketchy with PBO at the moment at the latest BIOS. Going to turn it off for now thanks

80c is totally fine under a benchmark or heavy multitasking use. If you plan to use that sort of application 24/7, then consider swapping coolers. But if the CPU is not typically at 100% load, your fine.

The question you should ask yourself is: "Is it worth to spend potentially hundreds of dollars for a few more % better performance and a higher benchmark score?"
And if yes, then the question really just comes down to how much its worth to you.

Personally I'd be fine with the performance of the NH-D15, but if I wanted to go all out, then I'd go with custom watercooling and ignore the AIOs.

This is a big reason why I would go Ryzen 5000, probably will be. Since I know it's the end of the line for that platform the CPU I buy is the only one I will be, I'm not going to buy Ryzen 3000 then at some later date Ryzen 5000. No I would just replace the entire platform instead and I'm personally not happy with spending a fair decent amount of money on a PC with an intentional limited usage period, I just don't do that.

It makes zero sense to me to buy an entire system and then buy a previous generation CPU with known significant performance implications compared to the current/later CPU generation, then later spend yet more money to upgrade the CPU when/if that new generation is cheaper or more better value SKUs have been released. Why would I be worrying about an extra $100 on a CPU when buying a Ryzen 3000 then later a Ryzen 5000 which would result in a greater than $100 expenditure difference than if I had just gone with Ryzen 5000 in the first place. The other situation being buying Ryzen 3000 then switching to Ryzen 6000 sooner which is again a higher expenditure difference than $100.

So I dunno if you are going to cheap out in the name of value just get something like a 3300X and a stupid imbalanced high end GPU, pump the graphics settings and ride that until Ryzen 6000 and then dump the platform for that and have spent less. Hell just flip the system for what ever you can get for it, you'll get almost as much as you would if it were a 3600 because the price floor on the used market just works that way.

TL;DR A single part having a better price to performance ratio doesn't automatically make it the better choice.

The 2080s is only going to get cheaper. So buying on when its on offer or using a discount code would be an option. Nobody knows the launch price of the 3080. But one thing is known is that it will cost more.

Also there's nothing to say that NVIDIA don't launch a 3080s thats 50% more powerful than a 3080 less than 6 months after launch. There's always something better coming if you wait.

Grab a 5700 to tide you over and sell it when nvdia launch 3000 series
you won’t loose much money on it
but buy a card at launch because there’s always something new coming out
if you buy at launch you will have it knowing you will get a full season out of it before something new comes

Technology will always be a "wait until this better thing comes along" deal, if you're looking to have the best.

From my perspective, I see you asking a question you've already answered. You don't currently have a GPU. You want a GPU. You should have a GPU. Current generation cards are solid performers at 1080 and 1440p, and in some cases, 4k. Performance of the next generation of cards is entirely speculative, but I expect the biggest leaps forward will revolve around RTX performance.

If I were you, I would probably source some temporary solution with either a discounted new budget GPU, or, a 2nd hand which you could later sell. And wait until the introduction of the new cards, to see, whether they offer any significant gain or not. Though it is not certain, they might drive RTX20 series card prices down a bit. Just get something, later you can sell it for good price, if you get a bargain.

I'm running a 1060 (basically 980 performance) on an MG278Q. I can definitely see the appeal of G-sync since I'm not always pushing high frames but in general lowering some settings will get me a smooth experience with very little visual sacrifice. If all you play is AAA titles at high settings, then yeah it might be worth it. For me it wasn't since I don't really play AAA games that often. Have a look at the Dell S27DG (name is something like that). It has a TN panel though

wako7654 got a reaction from Oskar Mason in Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration
He was actually saying the solution as to why the automatically detect DNS settings is greyed out. Put everything on default (Turn on Obtain an IP address automatically).  The DHCP server on the router (The one that gives the ip address lease) is probably not giving an address and it's  not the PC's fault.

To try and get an IP,  on the same "CMD" window. do the following.
Procedure A: Renew the IP lease
    1. ipconfig /release
    2. ipconfig /renew

Check if your Local Area Network Connection is ok. If not, then reset the router and Procedure A a go again. You can also try disabling your WiFi temporarily then do Procedure A once more and see if that makes a difference.

Currently doing some overclocks. Being not so lucky with the board [ dual channel problems], i guess its a little consolation that my CPU seems stable at 4.6 Ghz.

wako7654 got a reaction from neon_bowser in Need some where to start.
    A. It is very possible if you have the resources. You just need to find the perfect balance of providing the best services while maintaining your business. It will be hard at start since you have to be on the losing side, like giving attractive plans to your subscribers to switch over to you while gaining less profits but once your rep builds up and more subscribers come, it will be very profitable.

    B. For this you need to consider the bandwidth you will get from your MAIN provider and the bandwidth you will have to divide between your subscribers. The higher the bandwidth from the main provider will also mean more cost. Let's say you have a 1 Gbps line to AT&T(I dont what companies are there in US) then you plan that on 1 Gbps you will only server 10 users in it, Then you will have 100 Mbps for each user guaranteed. However if you want to justify the cost of a 1 Gbps line to multiple users you can have like 1 Gbps to 100 users delivering 10 Mbps to each of them.

    C. Cost will depend on how big you want your infrastructure to be. You need to determine how big of an area you want to cover. Like you can start from only one neigborhood or decide to go to a statewide implementation. ( Of course you need to always consider the feasibility of a small area vs a big area, in most cases small areas are not feasible)

    D. In the end you need to coordinate with a MAIN provider(Like AT&T), you will be connecting to their network to connect to the whole public network, you can get quotes from your local provider on dedicated Gigabit lines.
