  1. I have a home server with a 3950x that I use as a NAS and build server. I have PBO set up correctly in the BIOS, but no matter what I do, the CPU caps out at 3.5Ghz. I've tried switching to different governors and changing settings in cpupower, but honestly I don't have much experience with the linux kernel. How do I set it up so that it boosts to < 4GHz like it would do on windows? I think it may have something to do with the Pstate values listed below, but I have no idea how to change them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. $ sudo cpupower frequency-info analyzing CPU 0: driver: acpi-cpufreq CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0 maximum transition latency: Cannot determine or is not supported. hardware limits: 2.20 GHz - 3.50 GHz available frequency steps: 3.50 GHz, 2.80 GHz, 2.20 GHz available cpufreq governors: conservative ondemand userspace powersave performance schedutil current policy: frequency should be within 2.20 GHz and 3.50 GHz. 2. Do you have any recommendations for used SSDs? I wasn't even sure which ones to look at. The SSDs I was looking at are rated for >1600 TBW, which should be fine for my usecase. Not sure I'd go through that any time soon.
  3. I have a home storage server with 5 8tb drives in raidz1 that I use as a main storage array for home media and documents. Currently I use a use a pair of old 3tb drives in raidz0 for ingest from the network because I had them laying around, but it's slower than the main raid array and one of the disks is dying. I'd like to create a new ingest pool with the following requirements: Same or faster read/write as the main array No need for redundancy as anything important will be moved off of it onto the main array I can think of two options, and I was curious which you would recommend (or something else): Buy 3 more of the 3tb drives and create a new 4 drive raidz0 drive with them and the remaining good one Advantages: Cheapest option Disadvantages: creates WAY more storage than necessary for the application, higher power usage, would need an SAS card to fit extra drives Replace with a raidz0 of 2x cheap 2TB SSDs (looking at the teamgroup cx2) Advantages: don't need SAS, less drive space used, much faster ingest disadvantages: Slightly more expensive (even counting SAS), slightly lower storage than current setup (but should be enough, hopefully) What do you think?
  4. Just wanted to do something nice for someone, that's all. Sorry, I literally just returned it a couple minute before I saw this since I couldn't figure out anything. Wish I had seen this sooner
  5. Also, just to add, I'm not trying to sell it here. I'm just looking for advice.
  6. I impulse bought an Asus TUFF gaming off amazon because it was available, and then realized I don't want it. I can easily just cancel the order (and probably will), but I thought it would be nice if I could somehow make sure it got into the hands of someone who actually wanted it and wasn't going to resell it. It's not even shipping until the middle of February, so maybe it's not worth it anyway, but I dunno. I just thought it might be a nice idea if I could do it without getting ripped off or scammed myself. Is this the impossible task I think it is?
  7. Yes, I mean when I right click on the F@H icon in the hidden icons and select exit, the programs still continues to run, even though the icon disappears. I understand that the Control module and the client are different pieces of software.] If the issue is just WU availability, then why is my server not having any trouble getting a work unit every couple hours?
  8. My unraid server is working fine for downloading and processing work units, but my Windows desktop doesn't seem to move past connecting (it was working a couple weeks ago, then suddenly stopped). Here's the log, if anyone can help me out: *********************** Log Started 2020-03-31T14:34:03Z *********************** 14:34:03:************************* Folding@home Client ************************* 14:34:03: Website: https://foldingathome.org/ 14:34:03: Copyright: (c) 2009-2018 foldingathome.org 14:34:03: Author: Joseph Coffland <joseph@cauldrondevelopment.com> 14:34:03: Args: --open-web-control 14:34:03: Config: C:\Users\********\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\config.xml 14:34:03:******************************** Build ******************************** 14:34:03: Version: 7.5.1 14:34:03: Date: May 11 2018 14:34:03: Time: 13:06:32 14:34:03: Repository: Git 14:34:03: Revision: 4705bf53c635f88b8fe85af7675557e15d491ff0 14:34:03: Branch: master 14:34:03: Compiler: Visual C++ 2008 14:34:03: Options: /TP /nologo /EHa /wd4297 /wd4103 /Ox /MT 14:34:03: Platform: win32 10 14:34:03: Bits: 32 14:34:03: Mode: Release 14:34:03:******************************* System ******************************** 14:34:03: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16-Core Processor 14:34:03: CPU ID: AuthenticAMD Family 23 Model 113 Stepping 0 14:34:03: CPUs: 32 14:34:03: Memory: 31.95GiB 14:34:03: Free Memory: 23.87GiB 14:34:03: Threads: WINDOWS_THREADS 14:34:03: OS Version: 6.2 14:34:03: Has Battery: false 14:34:03: On Battery: false 14:34:03: UTC Offset: -4 14:34:03: PID: 18056 14:34:03: CWD: C:\Users\**********\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient 14:34:03: OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 14:34:03: OS Arch: AMD64 14:34:03: GPUs: 1 14:34:03: GPU 0: Bus:11 Slot:0 Func:0 NVIDIA:8 TU102 [GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Rev. 14:34:03: A] M 13448 14:34:03: CUDA Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:11 Slot:0 Compute:7.5 Driver:11.0 14:34:03:OpenCL Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:11 Slot:0 Compute:1.2 Driver:450.12 14:34:03: Win32 Service: false 14:34:03:*********************************************************************** 14:34:04:<config> 14:34:04: <!-- Network --> 14:34:04: <proxy v=':8080'/> 14:34:04: 14:34:04: <!-- Slot Control --> 14:34:04: <power v='full'/> 14:34:04: 14:34:04: <!-- User Information --> 14:34:04: <passkey v='********************************'/> 14:34:04: <team v='223518'/> 14:34:04: <user v='********'/> 14:34:04: 14:34:04: <!-- Folding Slots --> 14:34:04: <slot id='0' type='CPU'/> 14:34:04: <slot id='1' type='GPU'/> 14:34:04:</config> 14:34:04:Trying to access database... 14:34:04:Successfully acquired database lock 14:34:04:Enabled folding slot 00: READY cpu:31 14:34:04:Enabled folding slot 01: READY gpu:0:TU102 [GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Rev. When I want to close the client, I also have to kill it in task manager, because it doesn't close when I hit exit. I've tried reinstalling it, but the problem persisted.
  9. Never mind. It was the fan hub that comes with the motherboard. re-seating the usb cable appears to have worked. We'll see if it starts up again.
  10. Hello, I have a device on my computer that's constantly connecting and disconnecting. I don't think it's external, because I've disconnected every cable except for the spidf cable, and it still makes the noises. I've narrowed it down to this device here: Google says the device is a Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub, but that's not terribly helpful. Anyone faced a similar issue and know what might be causing it? Here's my computer specs: Ryzen 7 3700x Gigabyte x570 Aorus Xtreme 32gb g skill trident z MSI reference 2080 ti
  11. Yeah, I found a 19-20-20-40 g skill kit for $140. I'll probably just take the red heat spreaders off and replace them with something else.
  12. Actually I now see g skill ripjaw 2x16 kits for $140 on newegg, so maybe prices have just fallen way quicker than I realized. Still a sketchy listing though.
  13. I can't find a single thing about this corsair memory kit anywhere on corsairs website, and the back of the memory stick is suspiciously whited-out in the pictures. From the timings it looks like it might actually be a 3200 kit? It's not a third part seller, so it shouldn't be a scam listing, but I just can't find any info about it, and was curious if anyone else had seen anything. If it's real, it seems like a pretty good deal.
  14. None of the clocks are running at 400Mhz. This happens even when I set all cores to the same speed. It's like it's not reading from the correct register or something. Processes reports system idle task using ~99% of the cpu, but task manager is claiming ~30% usage at idle. I know it's never going to be as accurate as HWinfo, but I've been building windows computers for 20+ years and I've never had one that was this far off.
