  3. Hi LTT reader's, I've been running my first build using the Intel igpu, my 1070 has now arrived. What's the best practice regarding the install the card and driver's? Do I need to uninstall the Intel drivers before fitting the 1070 and then install the lastest nvidia drivers? Thanks for your time. Tony
  4. Hi guys, About to complete my first build. I've just purchased a Asus strix 1070-o8g and went to download the drivers from the Asus product page, the drivers are listed as version 372.70. Checking the drivers on the nvidia site the lastest version is 376.09. I am right in assuming that it better to use the lastest drivers on the nvidia site? Thanks for helping me finish my first build.
  5. There ISP will not let them change the router (been down that route before with that isp). They don't have a desktop pc so he can't use that method either.
  6. Thanks for the suggestion, however this would require moving the TV upstairs each time there's an update or when he downloads a new game.
  7. Hi Guys, My colleague's son is having problems downloading updates / games to his PS4 (Here I should add I've had no experience with playstations since the PS2). His PS4 has an update to download its approximately 1gb, it claims it will take days to download! Their route is upstairs and his PS4 is at the other end of house downstairs where the wifi signal is very weak. It clear that the weak wifi is the issue. We're unable to run an ethernet cable to that end of the house so were considering using power line adapters. Are there any issues using a PS4 with power line adapters? Any recommendations regarding make, models and data transfer speed will be really appreciated. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hi LTT readers, I've order a dGPU currently using the iGPU . Is it a good idea to update my Asus Maximus Hero VIII motherboard bios from bios #0802 dated 2015/09/08 before installing the GPU? Or should I only update the Mobo bios if I have a issues with hardware?
  9. Hi LTT readers, I've read many posts stating that it's not worth purchasing a factory overclocked gpu because you can use software to overclock it. I've ordered an Asus Strix GTX 1070-8G non overclocked version. (https://www.asus.com/uk/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1070-8G-GAMING/). I understand its a silicon lottery but by using GPU tweak will it match the performance of the Asus Strix GTX 1070 O8G https://www.asus.com/uk/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/ the factory overclocked version? Thanks for your help. Tony
  10. Hi LTT readers, Now that I’ve saved enough, it's time to fit a GPU to my first build which I started at the beginning of the year. Can anyone confirm that an Asus Strix 1070-O8G will fit into a Corsair 450D case with the 3.5” hard drive bay installed? What clearance is there between side panel and GPU for the power cable? Also, what is the clearance between the card and the drive bay. I‘ve have checked PC part picker and it suggests that it will be compatible. Really double checking it fits. Thanks Tony
  11. Hello LTT readers, I’ve been thinking about which gpu to purchase to finish my first build. Looking to purchase it on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or possibly the New Year sales. I will purchase it from wherever it most affordable, currently amazon UK seem to be the most competitive. Customer support in the UK is something that I am concerned about. I had to RMA my Asus Maximus Hero VIII mobo due to dents and scratches (overclockers.co.uk were fantastic arranging a replacement). It seems that there are many posts about sub standard customer support from every manufacturer. What with the Samsung / Micron memory issues and EVGA Vram getting rather hot. It seems I’ve read issues either with the product or support for all these cards. What are other LTT readers experiences with these cards and companies support? MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-geforce-gtx-1070-gaming-x-8g-8192mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-32a-ms.html would be stuck with a black and red build with MSI design. ASUS STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-Gaming Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-Gaming-Geforce-Graphics-Express/dp/B01GRCYTMY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=N2Q26Y6AVSWB7XD51E0G I’ve read posts saying it not worth buying an overclocked version of a card. Price difference is so small less than £3GBP EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 FTW Gaming 8 GB ACX 3.0 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/evga-geforce-gtx-1070-ftw-gaming-acx-3.0-8192mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-306-ea.html I not a fan of the looks of the card and a little put off after the heating / vrm issue. However many reports of excellent customer support and I do like the idea of a dual bios. My system is CPU: Intel i6700k - MOTHERBOARD: Asus Hero Maximus VIII - RAM: 16GB Corsair Ram 2133Mhz - GPU: iGPU! - PSU: EVGA 750G2 - STORAGE: Samsung Evo 500GB SSD - WD Black 3TB - WD 2TB Black - CASE: Corsair 450D - OS: Windows 10 Pro Monitor: 37” TV 1080p 60hz have to buy monitor in the future not sure to go with 1080p at 144hz or 1440p 60hz. Thanks you for your help and advice Tony
  12. Hi Tech tip readers, I need your advice on purchasing a GPU with a maximum budget £450 GBP. I built my first system at the start of 2016 mainly for photography and video editing of 1080p footage from a Canon 650D/t4i. Recently I’ve started to play a few games GTV V, Dirt 3, Firewatch (now saving for Battlefield 1) with just the iGPU. My system is CPU: Intel i6700k - MOTHERBOARD: Asus Hero Maximus VIII - RAM: 16GB Corsair Ram 2133Mhz - GPU: iGPU! - PSU: EVGA 750G2 - STORAGE: Samsung Evo 500GB SSD - WD Black 3TB - WD 2TB Black - CASE: Corsair 450D - OS: Windows 10 Pro Monitor: 37” Toshiba 37RV555D TV 1080p 60hz I do need a monitor undecided on 1080p at 144hz or go 1440p (time to start saving again) I've been considering the MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GTX-1070-GAMING-8G/dp/B01GRCYPE6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478548909&sr=8-1&keywords=MSI+1070 ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Strix-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B01HMDRY7E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478548881&sr=8-2&keywords=Asus+1070 ASUS STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-Gaming Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-Gaming-Geforce-Graphics-Express/dp/B01GRCYTMY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=N2Q26Y6AVSWB7XD51E0G I was also considering an EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 SC Gaming 8 GB ACX 3.0 https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-Nvidia-GeForce-Gaming-Graphic/dp/B01GVHNWUK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479382347&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+1070 personally I am not a fan of the aesthetics and with the recent heating/VRM issue I am now not so sure. I am in the UK so any advice regarding customer service and warranty from these companies would be also taken into consideration. As far as I understand, from reading post here they suggest that it's not worth paying the extra for a factory overclocked version of a GPU, as I can overclock it myself with software. These cards have differences with the display and power connections. I know the EVGA 750G2 has enough power connections for either card. Are there any disadvantages with the display connections? The Asus Strix has 2 x HDMI and the MSI has 3 x display ports. Would there be any benefits with either if I were to use multi monitors in the future. What has your experience/s with customer support with Asus, EVGA and MSI in the UK? Is it possible to achieve the same/similar overclock as the factory overclocked version? What advantages/disadvantages of Asus Strix 2x HDMI or MSI’s 3x displayport have? Any advice or suggestions these or other GPU options gratefully received. Thanks Tony
  13. In the past I used Microsoft Image composite Editor (Microsoft ICE) to create a large single image. The new 2.0 version appears to be more refined. Added bonus it's free. http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/ice/
  14. Hi, I need your advice on installing and setting up Adobe Premiere Elements 14 and Photoshop Elements 14 onto my new build. My system is running Windows 10, has a Samsung 500GB Evo and WD 3TB Black HDD. Which drive do you recommended I install Adobe Premiere Elements 14 & Photoshop Elements 14 on. SSD or WD 3TB Black? Thanks for your advice.
  15. Hi Everybody, After installing Windows 10 on my first build I then applied all the Windows updates. I later discovered on my C:/ Drive a Windows.old folder that's 16GB. When the November update was installed does that create the Windows.old folder? Is it OK/safe to remove it using disk cleanup? Thanks for helping Tony
