  1. Is 8th gen necessary? Things I've seen that are refurbished are things like the Thinkpad T440 which are 4th gen. Is this a good idea? Or would getting used Surface Pro 4 used be ideal? Most of the current 8th gen laptops don't seem to be sold used at the moment, so the LG gram 2018 is out of the question. HP Spectre seems to be ok, unless there is something I don't know.
  2. I'm heading into 6th form (11-12th grade for the American system) and need to get a reasonable laptop for school work and some coding. I would need to use Windows (but that goes without saying) as I need to use 365 (it's provided). This would not be used for gaming. Ideally, I'm looking for a good spec i5 CPU with 8 GB of RAM and an SSD of some size (I shouldn't need more than 256 GB, and 128 GB is still very acceptable). I would love 15.6", but it wouldn't fit in my bag, so 14" / 13" seems to be where I'm looking. Weight wise, I'd hope it shouldn't be too heavy as it would go on a 45 minute journey everyday while in my bag. I'm not sure what's the ideal weight is here, but I guess nothing over 2kg? That can be stretched if its ridiculous. I also don't want to spend too much, but I'm willing to go beyond a budget of £500 if nothing under that fits. Battery life isn't a main concern, but something over 3 hours would be best. I've already been looking at things like the Surface Pro, LG Gram 2018 and HP Spectre, and I understand that I would likely need to buy any of these models second hand/refurbished. I think that's all the information that might be wanted, so if you have any further recommendations that would be great.
  3. Thought I would update this one last time. I ended up getting this beast http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/6CBgbj for £750! A massive thanks to all who helped!
  4. Admirer problem is internet. The router is down the stairs and diagonal to my room (my room isn't over the room with the router). Getting cables up through the walls can't work. What's the easiest way to get it up there? Before you say WiFi, I have a 5GHz and 2.4GHz output, with the 2.4 being incredibly inconsistent, so if you suggest WiFi you also have to find out how a computer can recieve 5GHz connection.
  5. Apologies, I had forgotten, and remebered a few drafts I had early on. Thanks again, it's a great help. Sorry again, but it just seems counter intuitive to keep losing it and buying it back 1-3 times year, eventually you make a loss. Plus I won't be making any money, so if I lose it and can't buy a new one, I'm screwed. Ok, brilliant, thank you very much for being very helpful
  6. One quick thing, what do I do about sound cards? I see a option for it but have no idea if it's needed.
  7. Also, just to let you know, I'm not a fan of piracy. It may seem strange when it seems to be the best choice, but, I prefer companies get the money they deserve.
  8. I was originally considering a i7, can you suggest one? I have heard of 6700 and 6700K.
