Ashiella reacted to WereCatf in Adding more cores doesnt improve performance-intel exec
I think the quote “For gaming, 8-cores is the optimal spot for performance scaling in modern PC gaming,” is the most telling and actually counters his own claims: it was still just last year that Intel was saying that 4 cores is enough for games and POOF -- a year later the sweet spot is double that? Yeah, it just goes to show that increases in core-count will be taken advantage of and rather quickly, too.

Sure, 8 cores could certainly be the sweet spot now, but take, say, 4-5 years from now? It could well be that there are games that can use all 16 cores. Pushing for more cores lets devs go wild, it adds headroom for them to play with.

My 3900x with a stock cooler, on stock settings regularly hits 94-96c under full load, unfortunately AMD says that 95c is fine, even though all my inner tech fibers are saying its not.

The R3 2200G would be okay with recording stuff at like 1080p60 ultrafast or AMD VCE (If it has it, I forgot) adding stuff to the scene really isnt much more taxing. You'll probably be able to record light games like Minecraft, but get to any big titles and you'll likely struggle. As for video editing, you'll probably be okay, but it certainly wont be speedy. I would upgrade, but I'm a power user with a 3900x and both a gtx 1080 hybrid and gtx 980 solely for compute.

Whenever I get the 3900x shipped, I'm gonna SEND IT with this chip, as high as I can go 1.5v or not

    Yeah, probably.
With my R7 1700 and GTX 1080, I have a 1440p144hz monitor, I run very high / ultra on everything and 2x msaa and FXAA. I get about 100fps average, my cpu is bottlenecking. With an R7 3700 you wouldn't really have that bottlenecking problem, so lowering the settings should give you fine results with a 1070 Ti, the 1070 would probably have to stick to medium

I've got two headless folding machines, and I got sick of having to browse to web pages to check on how the machines are going, so I threw together a raspberry pi zero and a mini OLED so I'm always on top of how they're running

If anyone's interested, I'll share the script that the pi runs to pull the info from the folding.extremeoverclockers.com and you can create yourself.

Would recommend testing the mobo and psu with separate components (use a volt meter for the psu first)
My guess is that the motherboard died, not the powersupply.

The RX 570 typically uses ~150w under a gaming load.
The GTX 980 (From what I've seen, I have one) uses about 180w under load. At 75% power it stays at about 140w. You'll be fine with a 500/600w. Just make sure you get a quality unit and don't really cheap out on it.

Unless you have it specifically set to be on within the motherboard bios, it's off by default whenever you have a dGPU plugged in.

From what I remember, ranked/casual players and comp players have entirely different playstyles. When a pro player doesn't spend much time on ranked, its easy to get clapped by the ranked players.

If you have the hardware and the game already, why not just keep reducing graphics quality until performance is what you want?
