"B350 motherboards will not get the bios update for Zen 2"
Okay, you know what would've been nice? My X370 board not bricking itself.
-
Source? Because I just saw a WCCFTech (inb4 controversy) where they mentioned some boards already got the BIOS update; someone in the comments even saying their B350 board got a Ryzen gen 2 update.
-
some B350 boards
-
How did the board brick itself?

Press X to Doubt
Because if i have to buy a new board then they are no different than intel

I do hope A320 doesn't and it gets burned out of the map forever, useless chipset.

Source? Also that seems like a really dick move unless there's a technological reason for preventing it.
I doubt AMD would allow this unless there was a valid reason.
I do know that a lot of motherboards don't have enough storage on them in the BIOS chip to store information for many CPU generations.
The motherboard guys really hated AMD making them support Ryzen 2nd gen cos the chips they use for bios don't contain much storage and so they needed to spend more to buy larger storage chips to be able to store the info for all the CPUs they have.
I wouldn't be surprised if the motherboard guys screwed up and didn't put enough storage to allow for Zen 2 info on B350 boards.
-
@AluminiumTech I am sure it will be enough, after all...AM4 will only last until 2020 before AMD starting to use new socket right? one more year to go..
-
@Hiya! It might surprise you to learn that the AM4 bulldozer APUs were dropped from a vast majority of motherboards to make space for Ryzen 2nd gen.
They were already almost running out of space. So it makes sense that they would run out of space now on cheaper boards where they didn't put the larger bios chips.
-
@AluminiumTechThey can still get away with making BIOS versions that are
Gen 1 & Gen 2
Gen 1 & Gen 3
Gen 2 & Gen 3
if they cant hold all 3 of them so that the user can update BIOS based on what he have and what he wants to upgrade to.
Its a lot more work for the motherboard guys to do this though so I doubt they ever will do it this way. Most likely, they will just allow the most popular motherboards to update and forget about the rest.

@Cyberspirit I decided to turn my pc off one night, and in the morning I turned it on and it didnt post.
Even if my board (which I doubt itll support zen 2) does support zen 2, I wouldnt want to use it..
Improper voltages, amperage readouts, fluctuating clockspeed, VRM that is meant for a 6c or less..
Im planning to get the 12 core model zen 2 chip soooo. yeah. I think its best I upgrade either way
-
@Hiya! Its the buying and selling trade of tech. and I still have enough to give away sometimes.
-
@Ashiella That's always fun. Maybe try to get it working if possible so at least you can try to sell it.
-
@Cyberspirit It was within a month, and I bought it on ebay from NZXT, so I just returned it.
-
@Ashiella Sweet, even better.
