  1. Hi guys! For anyone following - update coming tomorrow morning. Assembling everything this evening and leak testing overnight. Lots of pics to follow.
  2. I love hearing the stories of how Frankenstein computers come to be. I love even more reminiscing about first computers. I remembering upgrading my family's living room computer with Geforce 3 (Circa 2002!?) so that I could play Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It was revolutionary. @Junky987 Just give it a few more years and you'll be successful enough to really indulge in the hobby, it grows with you. Check out my current build project,15-ish years after my first PC DIY.
  3. This is just awesome. How are the GPU temps under load while it's closed up?
  4. Gonna overclock that thing or what?
  5. I prefer Corsair keyboards over Razer but that's a personal thing. I think your i7-6700k outweighs the 1070 a bit, you could save money and not sacrifice performance by going with the 6600k. Especially with the 240 AIO watercooling, you can overclock the i5 to comparable or better performance than the stock i7. On watercooling, I'm not familiar with Silverstone's solutions but if you're going for a 240 radiator unit I highly recommend Corsair's H100i v2.
  6. I know it's a hassle but, dissembling and putting it all back together one component at a time with extra attention to ensuring everything is seated properly (especially the 24pin mainboard and 4pin CPU cables) helps. Have you tried booting with just the bare essentials? CPU, 1 stick of ram, no expansions or PCIe cards?
  7. Hah! Thanks for the heads up. I've got half a dozen of those laying around and I always use them but never realized where they all came from.
  8. Did your motherboard not include one of these?
  9. Let us know if that works! If not, check your motherboard manual and try to get us a post code to help identify the problem.
  10. Are you using the post speaker? Is there a post code display on your motherboard? I recently mistakenly labelled a motherboard as DOA because despite it actually posting, I couldn't get a display on my monitor. Turns out the motherboard didn't support 1440p resolution.
  11. If you ever plan to SLI remember that the 980ti will become rare and extremely expensive pretty soon while 1070 supply will be high for a while. Also, the 1070 should scale better with SLI. (Citation needed )
  12. Yeah, totally agree! I was just showing that by foregoing G-sync and just focusing on resolution and refresh rate you could spend less. Check for open box items at Microcenter or Fry's. They love using those ASUS monitors as display items.
  13. My EVGA Hybrid 980ti runs amazingly cool and has been begging for an overclock. While I haven't tried yet - notice some of the Hall of Fame 3DMark scores still use the 980ti overclocked despite 1080s and Titan pascals being out. However, for new builds or upgrades I would always lean toward newer tech.
  14. Check the benchmarks but, I'm pretty sure the 1070 can handle most anything at 1440p 60+FPS pretty easily so G-Sync while nice, probably isn't necessary. Here's a 1440p Acer 144Hz with Free-Sync for a few hundred less than the ASUS 1440p option you listed. I have 1440p and could never go back to 1080p, it's a huge improvement.
