Believe it or not, with a little bit of man power the hyper 212 evo with fit on a 775 board without too much trouble.

a tidbit of elbow grease might be required though

Alkali A reacted to mrzoltowski in How LTT turned me into an addict. Thanks Linus.
8 months ago, I was content and happy. My trusty Lenovo Razer pre-built PC ... browsing the web, playing some games and doing work.

Then I came across this little channel on YouTube, called Linus Tech Tips, featuring a complete control freak that breaks things all the time @LinusTech and a mild mannered goofball that is quite easy on the eye @Slick . This is where their entertaining and engaging content started to brain wash me. Soon enough I started hearing voices. Those voices told me ... "Nooo, you don't need new clothes ... buy a new CPU! .... noooo you don't need to fix that leaky bathroom pipe, buy a new graphics card!" ... as the weeks and moths progressed the undeniable charm of the LLT team and those HYPNOTOAD eyes have slowly etched a complete and insatiable hunger into ever fibre of my being.  That hunger was for one thing only, a custom build PC and RGB.

For many weeks I questioned my sanity, having binge watched the ENTIRE LTT back catalogue in under 2 months. Did it scratch that itch? Did it satisfy? NO ... I needed more, I needed something stronger.

So I said to myself, hey ! I'll buy a case .... and move my rusty Lenovo parts into it .... just to see what happens. So I bought a Corsair Carbide 400C White, it had a clear window so you could see your computer parts. What a novel idea! I exclaimed ... in my head. With my brain armed with all the combined knowledge of LTT staff I managed the move.

A few days have passed, I stared at this clear window, the parts inside, green and dark and ugly ....  my life lost meaning ... colours faded ... sounds muted ... I have become my case .. an empty shell full of potential.

Something had to be done, images of previous LTT videos flashed inside of my mind, so fresh, so new .... @LinusTech whispering into my ear ..... "build ... build my friend .... be free".

8 moths and almost £3000 later .... I have a kickass PC. It reflects me, it is an extension of me, my little precious thing. It has my favourite colours, it has my design sensibility. It is a reflection of me. I worked hard for it and on it. I tweak it almost every day, imagine new ways to cable manage, look up new things I can add to it.

Yet I want more, I want to build something else, something better ...

When will it end? Maybe never ... but this new passion and fire I have for PC stuff .... the only limit is my imagination ... and wallet

Let me know in the comments how LTT has affected the way you look at PC hardware ...

    My little baby

    That's Tech SOURCE, lol.

(Tech City is nice too though)

I'd also agree with everybody else in that AMD is a better option overall, though I would add that even though Ryzen has pretty ez OC it's not as efficient or powerful as intel OC

though that's probably not a big factor either way.

quiet, do their job very well, excellent quality item, and shouldn't clash with your build most likely.

the new AMD Ryzen cpus are better for multitasking and processing that can take advantage of multiple cores than the current mainstream intel chips.

they offer more cores, for less cost than intel.

    cooler looks fine

if you wanted to go ryzen you'd need a board that'd work with it, lol

the 850 EVO drives are great SSDs, I'd also recommend a larger HDD (maybe 1tb?) just to keep the storage from filling up.

I'm not sure if the 460 has specific productivity usages, but the 1050 Ti seems better (?)

    love the case

I would invest in a better power supply (it is a terrible mistake to cheap on these, it can ruin the build in a worst-case scenario)

I would go 7700k then as well it has better single core performance, and intel has much more efficient and effective overclocking

which also reminds me that if you plan on overclocking you may want to look into cooling again. I personally am using a 6700K atm with a 212 evo and the cpu cooler caps me at 4.6 (which I am working on fixing)

in this case the 460 or 1050 Ti should be more than enough.

Alkali A got a reaction from mebaby2 in Risk new mobo or replace mobo+cpu?
no problem, it's definitely got the possibility to be the cheaper choice of the two that's for sure.

And yeah, dead hardware just kind sucks all around, plus you'll probably have to get a new windows key either way

on the plus, you could try getting a Z270 motherboard; see if that tickles your fancy at all (it's not even more expensive, lol)

and I might add that the R7 1700 is more of a step sideways than up imo, more cores, lower clock speeds, quite possibly lower overclocks, meh.

anyways, glad I could offer my help in any way!

sounds good all around then, noice.

you won't "suffer" without G-sync, it's one of those things that you don't notice having unless you have it and it gets taken away.
it's just a great thing to have.

I'd go 1080 as it gives you more headroom

the monitor mentioned above is a good cheaper alternative for a 1440p 144hz+ G-sync monitor (mouth full)

and you can remove the price of the case (cus you have it) and get a noctua instead of a H100i to save a few bucks

hitting all the ticks, though maybe two seperate HDDs if raid is decided as an option?

and that monitor doesn't have G-Sync, but that sounds more like a maybe than a need.

smart move on the noctua, shaved a few bucks with air cooling. (though it says it may need an adapter?)

(ps. I use G-sync, love it)

    (edit)
yeah, that 650 watt @Bananasplit_00 mentioned would be a smart move with a 1080, a 1440p monitor and overclocking, lol.

I'm really an Intel fan so I want to recommend the 7700K, but honestly it looks like ryzen would be the better cpu streaming wise, they have the extra cores you'd need for such tasks

if you stick with white/grey parts you can always go RGB later if you want.

and I have a decent 1070 myself and I run a 1440p 144hz monitor and 1080p tv daily no problem, that being said I'd still recommend a 1080 for head room

(I'll mock up a part list)

in these cases it quite possible that the streamer also has a second dedicated pc just for stream encoding.

streaming can either be software or hardware encoded

software is done by the cpu, has better quality, but is slower
hardware is done by the gpu (or some dedicated device like some capture cards) and has lower quality with faster speed

hardware encoding makes your games take less of a it, but can make your stream look like poo if you don't have a good enough GPU (or capture card) to encode
and software encoding can take up an entire core of a 3.0 ghz cpu or more to do it right, and with an i5 that'd make your games definitely take a hit

that being said, dedicated second encoding pcs don't need much oomf or power in them as the only thing it will be doing is software encoding with it's cpu, so you may be able to use your older pc as a second stream pc? You'd need a capture card though

Alkali A got a reaction from mebaby2 in Risk new mobo or replace mobo+cpu?
personally (and this is key) I would get a new Z170 or Z270 (idk is the 6700k is compatible with the Z270?) and test the 6700K and if that doesn't work get a 7700K

they're both pretty darn good cpus and if there's a chance to save money, why not try right?
