  1. Hi guys and gals. Thanks to this forum, I built my fully custom PC : PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/k428jc Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/k428jc/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-6800K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($379.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($114.99 @ B&H) Motherboard: Asus X99-DELUXE II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($393.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill TridentZ Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($244.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($289.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 960GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($219.95 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($314.90 @ B&H) Storage: Toshiba X300 5TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($149.99 @ B&H) Storage: Toshiba X300 5TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($149.99 @ B&H) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Video Card ($724.98 @ Newegg) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case ($88.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: Corsair 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($149.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($79.89 @ OutletPC) Total: $3302.63 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-11-23 02:03 EST-0500 I have set the system up, struggled a bit with the highspeed memory and bios.. finally flashed the latest bios from Asus website.. installed windows.. did all the updates. Even then, my device manager showed two items as unknown. 1) 690LC 2)Unknown Device I am worried about what they are. I went to asus support page for the mobo, and ran every software they gave download to. UPdated the chipset, bios, lan, wifi.. etc. But still, these two show up. I am at a loss to what they are. BTW, there was no info on what each software does on the support page. I have no LEDs on my system, so no Aura software was installed. Other than that, pretty much everything was installed. Windows rejected one install as (signature error), but other than that, everything went on smoothly. So, Kindly help me what those are, and what I should do. Thank you. DJ
  2. Hi guys, After some help in the builds section I decided on my config which is as follows : PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KFNL4C CPU: Intel Core i7-6800K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($379.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($114.99 @ B&H) Motherboard: Asus X99-DELUXE II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($393.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill TridentZ Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($244.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($312.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 960GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($239.00 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($314.90 @ B&H) Storage: Toshiba X300 5TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($149.99 @ B&H) Storage: Toshiba X300 5TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($149.99 @ B&H) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB SeaHawk X Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case ($80.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: Corsair 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($180.55 @ B&H) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($83.89 @ OutletPC) Total: $3371.24 This system is for video editing. Heavy video editing. Now, I picked up a Phantex Enthoo Pro CPU and ordered it from Amazon. But they sent me the non windowed version instead of the window one which I ordered. Now I am getting a refund on it. But this situation has given me an option to review my case choice. Right now, I have got all the other parts, but no CPU to fit in them. Frustrating. Kindly suggest to me a case which I can comfortably (without modding, etc.) mount the Kraken X61 as well as the MSI seahawk x radiator. Thank you. DJ
  3. So, from the few eyeballs that this thread got, so far, it seems my build is fine. Or is it? Any suggestions before I got out and buy? Two things I still am having doubts about are storage and RAM. I am seriously considering coming down from 64 gigs of ram to 32 gigs. Same Gskillz trident series 3200 ghz (pc4 25600) 4 sticks of 8gigs kit. If later on needed, upgrading it to 64gb (which most videos are saying not necessary anyways). Regarding storage, I am reading online, (and am not able to come to a decisive conclusion, and am unable to understand specs on the mobo and ssd pages online) is that some websites are saying asus x99 deluxe II does not support m.2 pro 950 samsung drive. Is that true, is that issue resolved? My plan was to make this one the bootable drive. Is that ok? Also, many people are sticking in two ssds (one for read and one for write) for improving render times. If so, which ones are the best bang for the buck is my other question. I picked up, in my build above, one 850 evo I TB. Should I go instead for a double ssd? As mentioned above, my video files are going to be giganormous. Is this going to help, or two 512 ones suffice, etc. Thanks in advance!
  4. Looking at my choice of cabinet, it seems I chose the wrong one, considering the dust problem. Thinking about going with Phanteks Enthoo Pro Series PH-ES614P_BK Black Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case Because of the 6 internal 3.5 drive bays for future raid 10 kind of set up.
  5. Cool, going with 850. CORSAIR HXi Series HX850i 850W 80 PLUS PLATINUM it is!!
  6. Talking with some NGOs and UN people requires some software that requires win 10. Thanks for the input on 850W PSU. Will that be fine if I later on increase my hard drives to a raid 10 or something?

  8. Editing definitely and 3d contour work, modeling and animation.. but cannot resist civilization 5 and the upcoming civ 6.
  9. I looked up around CTC in paradise center.. new egg india (even with shipping and taxes added) and hardwire.in are about a 1000 Rs cheaper on pretty much everything.
  10. Well, I have to buy it from India, and usually black friday discounts do not happen here, nor do they apply on websites that sell to India.
  11. Hi guys and girls! Thank you all for such a nice helpful forum. I have been browsing through other threads and found out what a nice place this is! Here is what I am looking at in my new PC build : Location and Budget : I am from Hyderabad, India. My budget is around 3,500 USD (or 2.5 lakhs) Bringing it down to 3000 $ would be great though, but I am not seeing how. Aim : My aim with this PC build is to build a computer for some heavy video editing, 3d work and some gaming. I am a Permaculture Designer, teacher and a consultant. I plan to release an online course on permaculture, which will contain videos of lectures and many DIY sustainable technologies and practices. The content is something like 400 hours of 1080p video. Each video will typically be half an hour to 2 hours long, edited from a lot of files, with pictures, etc. Lots of color correction, audio post processing etc., also might end up happening. I plan to edit all of that on my new system, plus some after effects work and photoshop work, along with a few renders in blender 3d. My previous profession was 3d animation, and I am looking to revamp that in the latter part of next year. Also, I will be editing huge banners to be printed for various events, so I have to work with huge files in photoshop. The place I stay is quite hot (up to 48 degrees C in summers) and even though I have an air conditioner, if I set it to anywhere below 25 degrees, I end up catching cold. So, heat is an issue I have to deal with in my build. Dust is another. My house is right by the side of a busy road, and lots of dust ends up here. I would like to dust proof my pc as much as possible with possibilities to clean. Software I use prominently : Da Vinci Resolve, Adobe creative suite (I already have subscription) and Blender 3d. Games : Total War Series, Civilization, Bradman Cricket 14, and other strategy games mainly. Although occasional driving games. Monitors : I already have a 27 inch monitor that is 1080 p. I am looking into buying another one for my editing set up. I do not know the model of my monitor (since im typing this on my laptop away from home) and dont know which one to pick. Peripherals : I already have the keyboard, mouse, graphics tablet, headphones and speakers that I love. No need to buy any new versions of those. Reason for upgrading : My last build of a pc was in 2006 when I built a dual CPU system with Athlons and a tyan tiger mother board. After 2008, I moved away from my animation career, so laptops were sufficient for me. Now, I am using a hp pavilion dv6 i7 version with geforce GT 630M processor. The laptop is heating up and getting cranky (been using it for 4 years) and also not quite powerful for my editing needs. Takes too long to render to make it viable too. Also, most importantly, I am not looking at any major upgrades (other than RAM and may be adding another card in SLI two years down the line) for another 3 years. After looking at a lot of videos (binge watched for the past 5 days) and looking up websites, I came up with this following set up (newegg, hardwire.in and pcpartpicker) CPU : Intel i7 6800k CPU cooler : Corsair H100i Motherboard : Asus X99 Deluxe ii RAM : Gskillz Trident series 64 GB 3200 ghz RAM (25600 pc4) 4 sticks of 16 gb for quad channel Graphics Card : MSI GTX 1080 Sea Hawk X (for future SLI possibilities buying another one cheap later next year) PSU : Corsair Hx 1000i Storage : Samsung 950 Pro M.2 512 MB, Samsung 850 EVO 1TB, Toshiba X300 4TB (dual Raid 0) Cabinet : Cooler Master HAF XB EVO O.S : Windows 10 Pro The above might look like (as linus says) selecting the top choice by filtering with 'highest price'.. But after watching quite a few 'benchmark' videos, I could not bring myself down much. And I do want to overclock. Did I miss any crucial parts? Also I have no idea about how to select specialized fans for the cabinet. Also, I am not at all concerned with looks. Only performance for a long long time to come. I was binge watching a lot of videos on hardware and build logs, etc., for the past four days. So, let me go back and watch a few more as I wait for your replies. Any suggestions, corrections, component swaps suggested are welcome both for performance boosts and to cut down prices. Thank you all in advance. Cheers! DJ P.S. I can wait till Sept 30th if you guys think the prices will come down a lot. I need my system ready by October 10th at the latest.
