  1. It wasn't REALLY the monitors fault. Though, I thought it was when I paid to ship it to them for warranty repair. Repair denied, liquid damage. grrrr. Hell, I have had the thing apart myself. If I could buy a new mainboard I would consider going the "self repair" route. Can't find where to buy them though. (My google-fu is failing me hardcore).
  2. Damn! Thank you so much for taking the time! Wife wants to buy me a replacement and she was pressuring me to come up with one. Knew I could count on y'all to come up with something if it existed.
  3. Thank you very much for the feedback. I bought one of those on amazon for $299.99 late October last year. It was beautiful while it lasted!
  4. Experts/Forum fans that know even slightly more than I: Do you know where I should be looking for a top-notch 1440p monitor in my range? Do you guys and gals just know this stuff? Usage/Preferences: Gaming only. Highly preferably 27inch class. For sure not smaller than 24inch. Anything at or under $350 will be considered. Prefer FreeSync with "g-sync compatible", if not, then just freesync as my cheap ass will probably go AMD for my GPU upgrade. GPU: Currently a GTX 960, but I am well aware of the limitations, and I am willing to turn down the settings and such, so don't worry about that part. Bonus: If the important mainboard could be on the back, rather than the bottom it would be best. Ignore this if it is to big an ask. Had an Acer VG271U purchased late last year ruined by fluid ingress because the mainboard is at the bottom of the monitor and fluid can get trapped/pool there. Made me gun-shy about a repeat. (FYI, animals can be real assholes) I don't know what other details would be helpful to know...
  5. I think you should do a Gaming FPS comparison on a system loaded with stuff like a normal gaming computer. Probably no need to run the complete gamut of Intel/AMD products, just some that make sense for the price category for the RGB stuff. NZXT lighting + corsair iCue, maybe itunes or amazon music bootstrapper (and other background processes that run on most peoples systems all the time.) People don't generally start off with a clean system so that might produce a more real world result. (Specifically I am wondering if it doesn't show how important 4+ cores are in today's gaming world).
  6. Linus & Slick. Hate to see ya bag on GBoard so much. My Thoughts: To anyone that has not tried google's keyboard (gboard) for more than a few months. I recommend giving it another go. I am an original Swiftkey user. I paid my $2.99 back in the day for it (got a free skin when it went "free"). I really liked it for a long time. Gboard is shockingly better than it was just a year ago. I love the built-in gif search tool. Makes facebook messenger or other "web" based clients way better to use. (You can add them to SMS too, but I prefer not to as it turns it into a MMS). GBoards corrective typing is soooooo much better than it used to be. Maybe I changed? With Swiftkey, I used to be able to do like Linus and just mash the kb and basically get what I wanted. It stopped being effective though, so I went looking for a replacement keyboard. Found GBoard. Just like all of google's products. It started of as a bit of a dud, but has grown into something awesome.
  7. Linus, I think you should branch out into another DIY space. Home security DIY specifically. This space is wide open, and good information out there is spartan. I'll admit it would be a big learning curve for you guys if you don't already have somebody that is knowledgeable about such things. However, security is a huge amount of content you could mine, and people willing to build their own computer seem like the type that would be interested! Maybe start by reviewing several different AIO Security Camera systems. It might actually have some merit for you there at the office as you pack in more and more valuable hardware as well. I'm doing it at home and I have been researching for months and it has been an extremely tough slog. Just look to your own forums, (https://linustechtips.com/main/search/?type=all&q="home+security") people seem to be into it.
  8. I hope some sponsor gives you one of them to review. Seems to be a fairly good device, but I wonder what a true nerd would think about it?
  9. Lets see here, my "Linus Tech Tips origin story"... I have been watching your videos since back in the NCIX days. I have always been interested in new hardware and what it means. Stumbled across one of your videos one day, liked it and watched several others that you had out. Due to your influence I have built numerous computers at work and several at home. Each time I feel I got it "more right", and have an easier time selecting components. I'm not surprised you hit 1 mil subscribers, the content is always refreshing and original. The insights you and your team provide are good for newb's and people that have been around hardware for a while. Keep up the good work!
  10. So I had this same question, googled it, and landed here. Considering the success of the R9 295x2, I am hoping to see more GPU's with AIO coolers pre-attached. There is plenty of case support, and you really don't need much more than 120mm fan and radiator. A very small price premium would be appropriate here (maybe $30) so it could be considered anywhere in the $200+ tier of GPU's I would think. Q: Do you like your 270x? A: Why yes, yes I do! Q: Would you like it better with silent AIO cooling for a mere $30 more? A: SURE! Really, why NOT?
  11. My favorite thing about the LG G3 has to be the new camera features. Laser finder, camera and video with separate buttons wow!!! Much better than my SG3. I'm also digging the customizable interface though, and that BATTERY. Holy hell!!! When I was about halfway through the video I was like, I want one, wonder if they are giving the review sample away lol. It looks completely awesome. I got my kids LG G2's for Christmas, and I liked the button on the back layout, so I know I would love this beast!
  12. I love both the sound features and the HTC Sense ui on the new HTC One (m8). HTC's commercials are actually pretty clever. "Go ahead, ask the internet". lolz. Phone for me?
  13. I got two of these for my kids. They love them. I think it was stupid for the phone not have the removable back and micro-sd slot, but it was for my kids and $50 cheaper (apiece) then the Samsung Galaxy S3 I was gonna get them. There wasn't a whole lot to say about them on sites, it was a quiet release. There was enough for me to see the hardware was vastly superior though. I was just worried it wouldn't have Cyanogenmod support if it wasn't popular enough. (Unfounded, it is supported)
  14. My idea for a video is on choosing the right motheboard chipset for a given build. When to get the top end overclocking friendly ones, and when to go lower end. Pros and Cons should be included and examples of builds would be nice. It would be helpful if current AMD and Intel options were covered. A lot of newbies don't pay attention to chipset when making their selection and instead are completely fixated on price. I mean think about it, if you are getting a Haswell CPU, there are FIVE motherboard chipset's that will work with it (though some might require bios updates of course)! (B85, H81, H87, Q87, and Z87) Thanks!
  15. Hello, I have been watching LinusTechTips for a couple of years now. Really helped me to select components for my computer when I went to upgrade. He was talking about the forums in one of his WAN Shows (The Pax one Published on Aug 31, 2013) so I decided to create an account. I'll be around, popping in and out of the computer build section. A suggestion for Linus: Your wireless keyboard reception is terrible, and you hardly even need the "keyboard" part of it. Just get a Logitech M570. It is the best wireless mouse for mobile operations. It has really really good reception and the mouse does not require much space to operate in since it is a trackball. I thought I would hate it, but I have to say, it is the greatest thing ever. My thoughts, gogo809.....out
