Im pretty sure I would need ECC memory and im not willing to spend the money on that...i could be wrong and the price for a Xeon vs the others are comparable so i might as well jump to a newer platform.

I currently have a 3570K overclocked to 4.5GHz which is fine for gaming but I have recently started running VM's for on my home PC for school work and I am wondering since I am going to do a rebuild anyway, if I would benefit from just going with a Z170 and 6700K or should I rather go with a X99 and 6800K. I would start out with 16GB of DDR4 but eventually upgrade to 32GB at a later date. the Z170 would run on a ASUS Sabertooth Z170 S and the X99 would be on the ASUS X99 A-II.
