Hardwares I currently have, and are planning to upgrade:
CPU - i7 6700 non-k
MOBO - MSI Gaming Intel Skylake H170 LGA 1151 (H170A Gaming Pro)
Hardwares I currently have, and not planning to upgrade:
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS, 80+ GOLD 650W
HDD - 2X4TB SATA 6
SSD - 256G EVO
1TB EVO
GPU(waiting for price drop, to change along with PSU) - MSI GAMING 1070
I wouldn`t need any other peripherals. I don`t use PCIE Expansion slots for anything, and I wouln`t upgrade to m.2.
I might connect to external drive stacks/or raid set up in the future to edit videos.
I have two monitors set up, one 1440p at 144hz, and one vertical 1080 at 60hz.
My work on resolve is editing and color grading. I work mostly with 4k h.264 10bit 422 files, or transcoded DNxHR 422 files.
The problem I currently have is:
1. During color grading, i`d ran out of VRAM fast because of lots of OFX nodes. This part, i will wait to a GPU upgrade.
2. During editing, timeline scrubing and playback is not quite smooth. Although I`ve been working with proxy files mostly, so this is not that big of a deal.
Although I`d hope upgrading might help. Because transcoding sucks.
3. This is my main problem. I can`t seem to render stabley.
When rendering through the original files(mostly h.264), i have to turn of OFX plugins to ensure a complete rendering. Or otherwise, i`d get bad frames, or failed render.
When rendering through lossless proxies(DNxHR 422), it`s pretty much the same.
I am hoping by upgrading my CPU, i`d solve this rendering problem.
And the solutions I currently have is:
1. When GPU price gets......better, I will switch to a 3080. Larger VRAMS might help tremendously.
2. And then I would also switch my 650W PSU to 750W, if this is enough.
3. For now, I want to upgrade my CPU first.
I am currently thinking the 5800X. Although I dont know if 5600X would be enough, since Resolve doesn`t care that much about CPU.
And I am stuck trying to decide whether a B550m or B550.
I dont use any expansion slot, and I don`t use any M.2 drives. Does this mean, with my current set up, i wouln`t saturate all the PCIE lanes?
The price difference between my two choices is about 150 USD. (5800X with B550M MORTAR cost about 500$ and with B550 STRIX 663$)
Thanks a lot.
