  1. Hey I had the same i5-6600k and the board I have is asus z170-e. I started 4.4ghz@1.325 volt. Stable. Tried 4.5ghz but crashed @1.355 volt so I decided to stay at 4.4ghz. Then I tried to lower the voltage and finally settled at 4.4ghz@1.31 volt. The cooler I have is NH-D15 and temp was around 70c running real bench. Just my experience with 6600k and I hope you have a better chip than mine!

    A good deal?

Yea I have the 6700k but I wonder why it is better than 6600k in VR? Is it because of the Hyper Threading? Thanks!

    A good deal?

Thanks for the info. Is there a place in the Nvidia Control Panel I can check? Thanks

    A good deal?

Hey guys I got a deal in a local computer shop. He's offering me a mint condition AOC P2460PG g-sync for $400(canadian dollar, or about $310 USD). https://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16824160226 Although I own a Nvidia GPU I've never tried g-sync before. Reviews online said this monitor is pretty good. I am wondering if anyone using it or have used it before? Do you think the premium for g-sync is worthwhile? The monitors I am using now are the Sony 24' 3D monitor and a 21' Dell monitor I bought in 2009. My rig is 6700k+1070. Games I play are BF4, wow, Diablo 3 etc. thanks for your input! Edit: typo
  5. I have the Noctua NH-D15. If your case is wide enough you can rise the 2nd fan to give enough clearance for high profile ram. Or just use one fan mode and you are golden. There are lots of reviews on this air cooler. Mine runs very quiet under load and actually quite a bit cheaper than the AIO ones. Before this I had the 212 Evo, great cost-to-performance ratio. Ran a little too loud for my comfort. However if you have the budget I definitely recommend something like Noctua or AIO liquid cooler.
  6. Thanks again! I will let you know how it goes.
  7. Thanks! Should I just go ahead OC it to 4.4ghz since I will be using manual voltage anyway?
  8. Hey guys, I just bought a new 6700k today, an upgrade from my previous 6600k. My 6600k was OCed to 4.4ghz@1.325 Vcore, temp is around 65C At the first POST Bios I hit F5 and loaded the "Optimum Default". It pretty much changed everything back to Auto. I got into Windows 10 and played few hours games. Everything seemed fine. But when I fired up Aida 64 and wanted to see what Vcore it runs at before OC. As you can see in the photo, the result surprised me quite a bit. The 6700k runs at 1.42 Vcore during the test and the CPU temp is hovering around 80C... I am wondering if I did anything wrong during the upgrade process? Is there a place in BIOS or in windows that I need to change to reflect the CPU change? At this Vcore I probably can't do any OC Here's my config: Asus Z170-E BIOS 1902(Latest) 6700k with NH-D15 cooler Crucial 16g ram EVGA GTX 1070 FTW EVGA G2 750W Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 with couple additional noctua fans Any input is much appreciated. If you need other info just let me know. OC target I am hoping to get is just 4.4ghz Thanks! Ray
  9. At the time of purchase there's a promotion on FTW cards and both cards were selling for $599 Canadian dollar. I was lucky and unlucky at the same time I guess...
  10. I bought an EVGA 1070 FTW last month. Excellent performance as it boosts up and stays around 1950mhz. Thermal wise it hovers around 72C with fan at 40%. The only con is that it has some high pitch and annoying coil whine. I contacted EVGA and they provided lots of guidance and follow up to reduce the coil whine. They also said I can RMA the card if I want to. Just want to share my experience with you. My FTW card is not perfect but EVGA's customer service is excellent.
  11. I am using Fractal design arc midi r2. Good build quality, reasonable price and very spacious for a mid tower. I think you can mount 240mm rads top or front.
  12. Thank you! I do plan to upgrade my rig every 5 years or so. In terms of temperatures, it runs around 55-60C during game load so I guess it should be OK. thanks again for your input. Appreciated.
  13. Hello everyone, currently my 6600k is OCed to 4.4ghz@1.345 Vcore(bios)/1.36 volt(CPU-Z). Stable at about 70C max temp during Realbench test. I then switched to adaptive mode with offsetting voltage at auto. I am sticking with this OC for a while but I've read some comment online that Vcore should stay below 1.35 volt for daily use and to perverse CPU life span. Is this true in the long run? I use my computer 2-4 hours a day, mainly gaming. alternatively I can dial back to 4.3ghz@1.31 volts(bios). Stable as well. Sorry for the long question and thanks in advance for your inputs. Appreciated. Ray
  14. Bought an EVGA 1070 FTW about a month ago. Very annoying coil whine. Looked up online and many other EVGA 1070 owners have similar issue... EVGA customer service is excellent though.
  15. If you can afford a little bit more, I'd say go for Gtx 1070. The cheapest 1070 is about $399 on newegg. Comparing to 1060/rx 480, 1070 performs much better in 1440p or 144hz in 1080p, and be able to SLI in the future. It's for these reasons I returned my 1060 and upgraded to a 1070. So just sharing my experience with you.
